first of all, greatest dad in history. second, ESPN never really touched on the fact that at the beginning the dad was knew that he and his son couldn't share sports, but when he saw patrick play he knew they could share music. And when he and Patrick step on to that field, it represents the ultimate culmination of their relationship where they are sharing both sports AND music. Really shows that God always has a plan.

I guess some people are blind by sight.....some are simply dead blind in their souls. Patrick's talent is awesome and the family is to be greatly commended for the sacrifices they've made to help him develop all his potential. But I really don't understand why some college students can't earn work-study credits by wheeling Patrick around the field and assisting him to & from and in his classes. This doesn't seem like a proper or necessary parental function to me.
Patrick is my HERO! I love him, I grew up with him. Hes an inspiration to not just his community, but to the state as well. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world. Love you Patrick <3

In my two years living in Louisville I became very close with the U of L band program. I never knew the Hughes family but I saw them around when I went to and participated in band events and concerts. It wasn't until after I left Louisville that I realized how much I grew to love the U of L Band and how much of an impression Patrick Hughes' dad had on me.
That is the true measure of a MAN. Endless support and dedication to family before self. God bless your journey and may you continue to be his light unto the world..

Patrick, If you check the comments again, please let me know how you work the foot pedal on the piano. I have a friend who is wheel chair bound, and would like to play her piano again, but hasn't figured out how to work the foot pedal. Or if another wheel chair bound person has a solution please post it.
I agree, the Hughes men are both awesome. But how about the band director and how he wanted them to be a part of the band (forgot his name). Most wouldn't believe it could work.
@toddstephenmiller The band director is Dr. Greg Byrne. He is the forward thinking individual who launched all of this. He is one of God's angels and one of the best professors the U of L is lucky to have.

I know that Patrick is the Inspirational Story, but I'm touch by his father dedication and scarify to race and support his son. There are not that many stories of selfless father out there. I pray I can be the same way when it comes to displaying my love for my wife and kids.

Patrick,
You are my hero. I also play piano and play in band, and I cannot fathom doing it in your situation. And your attitude is amazing. You are a truly inspirational person. your parents are wonderful too, obviously good parenting, and I am impressed at how well he can march you around that field. You guys are and amazing team. thank you for keeping life in perspective.

Patrick, If you check the comments again, please let me know how you work the foot pedal on the piano. I have a friend who is wheel chair bound, and would like to play her piano again, but hasn't figured out how to work the foot pedal. Or if another wheel chair bound person has a solution please post it.

I agree, the Hughes men are both awesome. But how about the band director and how he wanted them to be a part of the band (forgot his name). Most wouldn't believe it could work.

@toddstephenmiller The band director is Dr. Greg Byrne. He is the forward thinking individual who launched all of this. He is one of God's angels and one of the best professors the U of L is lucky to have.

So cool to have you reply to my message. I watched the video and additional ones. We used your story during 3 & 4th grade sunday school. The kids really were impacted by your story. It is awesome that God is glorified by your testimony and the love that is evident in your family. God bless you.

I agree with Kerry. That Patrick is a lucky man occurred to me as I viewed the piece. Many many people have challenges that do not pull on our heart strings like this story. he has wonderful support. It is still a great story and I hope Kerry and others can take the value in it without being overcome by the irony of your own situations. It really is a tale of counting ones blessings even when those blessings may be hard to identify. God Bless us all and keep on trucking.

I know that Patrick is the Inspirational Story, but I'm touch by his father dedication and scarify to race and support his son. There are not that many stories of selfless father out there. I pray I can be the same way when it comes to displaying my love for my wife and kids.
