  • Wow! Only 4 Countries, the US and 3 Third World Countries. Most of Europe it's 18.

  • I find it ridiculous that people seem to become less passionate about this issue once they turn 21. I'm 22, I don't even drink, and I think that the federal drinking law is ridiculous now as it was when I was underage. I saw those parties in high school, I had friends that drank. I was their DD most of the time. It's a stupid law and the drinking age should return to the states where it belongs.

  • The whole 21 year old drinking age law is just stupid, if they wanna drink there gonna drink you can't stop them, besides that there just making it worse by setting it so high because then the underage drinkers don't have someone to teach them the consequences and effects of alcohol use. It's like jumping into the deep end of the pool without knowing how to swim you either learn quickly or your screwed. Luckily I'll be 21 next month .

  • All these hypocritical morons. Guess what? I'm underage and I'm going to have a drink. I work, pay my taxes, and have responsibilities as every adult citizen. The 21 year old drinking age has completely backfired and the cops just like it because it's another good source of revenue. The law is completely unenforceable (trust me, I'm breaking it right now) and we should learn from other countries examples, because it works for them. All the drinking age does is create a culture of binge drinkers

  • 16 for drinking and buying

  • this isnt gonna change anything except that theres gonna be some immature fucks at the bar

  • @insignia2543 Yet it is ok to have them in a jury box, vote for government officials, or be on the battlefield?

Ever notice the government always comes up with rules and restrictions that never negatively effect the government? You can't drink but we can draft you if we need bodies.

  • @insignia2543 did you not listen to the analogy if parents could legally help their kids there would be less i am getting shit faced attitudes and there would be less appeal

  • If you restrict or take something away from a person they will want it more just because it is restricted. It makes it that much more appealing. European teens don't have this problem, since they are not restricted by a age law allowing them to have access to the product making it not as attractive. Allowing teens to have access to alcohol will take away the "binge" drinking because it won't be as appealing once you can always posses it.

  • Weird how once we are 18 our minds are mature enough to join the army and go kill people. Apparently that doesn't have the same effect as drinking, interesting. Whoever this lady is she needs to use her big fat head. It is always a public safety issue when people drink NO MATTER THE AGE!!

  • fuck MADD and that fat bitch

  • I drank my first bear at 14.....Fuck law enforcement...

  • @shotsky94 i drank irish wiskey at three god damn right

  • So it's a-okay to start destroying your liver, etc. when you're 21 - but when you're 18 those bodily organs aren't yet 'ready and mature enough' to be destroyed? Please. That woman is such a cunt, you just know she was the one who never got invited to parties.

  • @Exstadrenaline LOL....It's ridiculous to automatically connect drinking alcohol with destroying your liver. There are certainly benefits for drinking in MODERATE amounts and I guarentee you drinking three beers at a party will not destroy your liver.

  • @ThaGearOfWar Yes, I know, I totally agree with you. I was phrasing it that way to point out the absurdity of her idea.

  • @Exstadrenaline dude ya man it ok when your 18 to get blown the fuck up but na NO BEER FOR YOU i am the beer nazi

  • Hahaha! I'm so glad I live in Denmark!

  • Also, since when has Stout been a big party school?

  • Yeah. There's pretty much nothing else to do in Menomonie besides drinking.

  • We shouldn't be saying "Lower the drinking age".

We should be saying "NO DRINKING AGE."

  • @davidhudman Yea, like in Denmark, its no drinking age here, just buying age (16 for beer and wine, 18 for spirits) but it's not really enforced and it's allowed to buy alcohol for minors. I mean 21 is just ridiculous.

  • To all you ignorant people who say that "The body is not fully developed until you turn 21", then why the hell can I join the army at 18? I am in the ARNG, and I can't take IEDs, but not a beer? That is jacked up. Granted, I havn't been deployed yet (thank God) but I have a 19 year old friend in the army who has been deployed and came back safely (also thank God for that).

  • @TheTrueGamble hoooooah

  • she needs an underage eating law

  • If you're old enough to vote, drive, work and get married why make people wait 3/4 more years to drink alcohol??

A 20 year old is not a child and I fail to see how treating them as such is going to benefit US society.

  • THat overweight lady sounds like she is reading off some dickheads mis-leading information hahaah get yo facts rite!

  • 'Eighteen-year-olds can vote to change government, get married, have children, enter into legally-binding contracts and are treated as adults by the justice system... now the people that want the drinking age to stay at 21.... u guys need to pull your heads out ur ass!

  • I'm glad I live in Canada. I just turned 18 today and now I can legally drink! (well in Alberta and Quebec)

  • I personally believe that informing the dangers and keeping a principle against drinking in a family environment would significantly help children to develop a safer idea on the use on alcohol throughout their life. It would be ingrained in their character, and hopefully be a hard principle to stray away from. Even when that child does become 21 and can legally drink, it could still keep them away from alcohol or at least drink responsibly.

  • Your an adult at 18 so you should get all the liberties and responsibilities of an adult, that Includes drinking.

That fact that the drinking age is 21 means we are just protecting people from their own stupidity. People should have the personal responsibility to drink responsibly.

  • @Shonenut213 the drinking age at 21 encourages irresponsibility, starting to drink moderately at the mature age of 18 makes you more aware of what you can get yourself into and how to avoid it.

It is time to lower the drinking age to 18

  • I'm 22 years old and i still say the drinking age of 21 is bullshit. That cow and all the other "Mothers against drunk driving" should stop worrying about teens drinking and focus on people of ALL AGES who drink and drive.

  • the middlebury guy slayed that M.A.D.D woman

  • Lads I'm from Ireland and I'm going to college this year and won't be 18 till my first year is over ha dya think I won't be drinkin ?? Haha america is still suffering from it's Quaker roots work hard play hard that's the way it is in Ireland and that's why we are the freindliest most fun ppl in the world

  • They really should change it to 18, 21 is just stupid.

  • Also the human brain is developing and chaning throughout a persons entire life span

  • Even in the 1980's most drunk driving accidents where by people over 21. The 21 year old drinking law has to be the most disrespected and ignored law in America as you has over 13 million people (18-20) who are adults and barred from drinking. There should be emphasizes on cracking down on drunk driving and alcohol education not breaking up college parties. Also the revenue states and national government would receive from lowering the drinking age to 18 would exceed the 10% traffic funding

  • drinking age at 21 is completely a cultural number. it has nothing to do with biology or brain development. and the reason no one wants to lower it is because of the party mindset that's kept with the idea of drinking. in other countries kids are drinking at 16 or 14 cuz they are taught to respect it. in america everyone wants to get shitfaced every night.

its ironic because the people enforcing the drinking age are people who drank when they were under 21. cuz everyone drinks (mostly)

  • I'm from Portugal and here we can drink (legally) at 16! And we're perfectly fine, I mean, it all depends on the person's responsabilities, I think. I believe 21 is too high!

  • Comment removed

  • @mediaflameflaps kid its not the time that is bull shit it is the simple fact that just because some people think it is cool to get fucked up that it is cool to not remember shit is bullshit, me personally i drink to have fun with friends not get drunk infact i hate being drunk its the freedom to say when i am 18 me dad and i can go get a beer together because truthfully i dont know if my dad will se me hit 21

  • gotta love canada, just turned 19 and now im legal!!!!!

  • The problem with the "education" that women is suggesting is that it isnt education its trying to scare people out of alcohol. Thats not education.

  • Obviously usa is extremely strict and far from liberal, that's why a lot of young people are very immature and they turn to drugs instead, which is abnormal,

  • any laws restricting uses of substance is fucking stupid and bashes freedom of choice.

  • I'm from Norway and we have 18. I think that's a perfect age limit.

Can't believe USA has 21.. That's SO high!

  • Also the male body and brain never finishes developing.

  • Besides most of the MADD members I have met are former members of DAMM (Drunks Against Mad Mothers) and many of those also happen to have no children as of yet.

  • @PerturbedMan yo i love how the president is a dude and yet he a mother agains drunk driving

  • Well heres an argument for lowering the drinking age. the way in which the Federal Government was able to force the state governments to raise the drinking age was Via a Federal Crime... Extortion. The Federal government informed the state government that they would not get the neccessary grants for road repairs. By definition of the law that is EXTORTION.

  • yes, lower the drinking age, if you're old enough to serve your country at 18, and risk dying in Iraq or Afghanistan, then you should also legally have a beer.

  • Sometimes I feel like I'm the only 17 year old who doesn't care about the drinking age at all. I have no problem with it being 21. I'd never go near that stuff, anyway. I don't pass judgement on those who do, but I really don't care that the drinking age is 21.

  • i can take a bullet in the face yet i cant get shit faced, now thats fucked up

  • People under 21 drink anyways, so why not just lower the age to 18... I thought you were an adult at 18 and could go out into the world, but yet you cant drink. Thats sad.

  • I can vote, drive, and die for my country but I cant drink???

  • hahaha 21, hate that

  • I was touring with a band for two weeks in May, and one of our shows in NY was at a bar. I had many friends in the area that I wanted to come that were over 18, but under 21, and they couldn't get in. They don't even drink either. This law is fucked up and it scares me that politicians think it's helping young people.

  • FUCK YOU CHANCELLOR SORENSON

  • the USA is one of only a few countries where 18 year olds cannot drink

  • Comment removed

  • Lmao usa sucks u have to w8 till ur 21 u guys suck

  • id fucking hate to wait till 21. 18 is bad enough.

  • As much as we like to call ourselves free, when it comes to alcohol, we have the least freedom of any country in the world outside of the middle east.

  • 21 is bullshit I say It should go drink drive then vote cuz if you can control yourself on alcohol you will have enough sense to do all the rest of the thing you need to do in life

  • that's so fucking shit that law, in other countries no one will be scared if you are underaged and drink responsably.. AHH, they should change the law!

  • All the MADD reps are a bunch of fat fuckin ugly cow chicks...

  • @afro20man Ur ruse ur just made that ur under 21 lol their just trying to make the streets safer from young punks who drive drunk

  • it doesnt matter to non of them because they well never be 18 again so why should they care?

  • this goverment is fucked

  • And no, I don't own a Motor Vehicle; I rely on Buses. Hmph. Something's gotta change eh? Fuck 21, Fuck the laws.

  • how the fuck is drinking a public health issue and not a fucking rights and responsibility issue? what a stupid bitch jesus christ.

  • you guys got some crazy laws over there, im 19 and im from england (drinking age 18) and I've been drinking to some extent since i was 15, Never done me or my friends any harm, we all got good grades and got into top universities in the country. just cant imagine not being able to have a few beers at the end of the day in our uni bar or on a weekend when imwatching the football. its a big part of our social time, just meeting up with friends for a few drinks.

  • If you're old enough to vote, sign contracts and be drafted, you are old enough to drink.

  • I hate madd

  • Thumbs up IF THEY SHOULD AT LEAST LOWER DRINKING AGE TO 19

  • the woman from mad is mad!

  • up the driving age and lower the drinking age.

  • the vast majority of DRUNK DRIVERS are OVER 21

  • @KripDrip don't get me wrong...fuck this 21 bullshit buutttt...the vast majority of ppl who drink are over 21 lol...

  • aawww..i would hate to be american.Ya's must be serious LIGHTWEIGHTS. It's 18 here in ireland and we were able t get drink so easy at 14 or 15..What do ya's even do at the weekend??...I'm 18 now and even at 16 couldn't imagine stayin in on a weekend sober...It must be so boring for ya's..If i were u's i'd drink anyway...don't take it waiting til your 21!!...

  • I drink underage, and im in enough control to know when enough is enough. Im not a fucking idiot who would decide to drive while entoxicated, its jsut common sense. If anything i think the driving age should be higher if you want to avoid teen drunk driving.

  • @Kazumato true the american teens need to learn something called a drinking limit.

  • Hey fat lady. I'm 20, but since I'm still just an underdeveloped child I'll simply respond like one. "ITS NOT FAIR, ITS NOT FAIR, ITS NOT FAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

  • Young people have the lowest rates of drinking and driving. They are more likely to be in an accident though, if they do. So really most are responsible enough to get a ride if they need to.

  • FUCK THE PIGS!!!!LOWER THE AGE OF DRINKING NOW!!!!!!!!

  • oh, come on, Paul, house parties were always WAY more fun than going to the bars, weren't they? and cheaper. how many times did you get busted for underage drinking in your 3 semesters at Stout??? the problem ISN'T the law... the problem is the CULTURE of drinking/drunkenness in the state of WI... Period. End of Story. Perhaps for your next documentary you can sit down with Dr. Drew Pinsky and have a nice long talk about the dangers of drinking and drug use - regardless of their legality.

  • drinking age should be 14

  • @jjaj6 i think it should be 10, lol

  • Really, in all actuality there should be no drinking age, people should be responsible for their own asses, and we shouldn't rely on govt to play mom and dad, as they suck at doing so..

Problem is, we're so devolved as a society, that the drinking age should be raised, and come with stiffer penalties until society can regain its ability to take responsibility for itself before borderline anarchy laws are put in place.

  • For the military argument...if you are in the military you can drink on base at 18. So if it means that much to you, go ahead and sign up.

  • I just don't see how its fair that at 18 you are given the responsibilities of an adult, are expected to act like one and are tried as an adult in court, but if you have a beer you can be arrested. Makes absolutely no sense.

  • The age law doesn't mean shit. I started drinking at 17 and by 19 I was able to obtain and drink a fifth every day. Eventually I got burnt out on it. Now I see everyone my age 22 acting like drunken idiots like I used to do and I'm like nah ill pass been there done that.

  • well ill be 21 b4 anything changes... so i dont really care. but cummon, who dosent get drunk atleast once a weekend in the age group 17-20?

  • Unfortuanently no the drinking age will probably remain at 21 for a long while.

  • WE ALL DRINK SO MUCH AT 16 SO COPS CAN SUCK MY BALLS!!!! FUCK YOU POLICE!!!! COME AND GET ME HAHAHAHAAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

  • Holy Crap!!!!! I went there....and yeah, we drank

  • the drinking age here in canada is 19.

  • in germany is the drinking age 16. its funny here

  • in germany is the drinking age 16. its fun here

  • I had a bar on campus at my college. It would have been nice to have had a beer or two with some of my underage friends after class.

  • well im underage. and i've drinken a little but its not my thing. Thing is is that all the people i've met that acutally think the age should be lowered are usually extremely irresponsible. They are the ones who only want the age to be lowered so they can bring their own drinks and get drunk more often. I know all these dumbass HS kids especially that get drunk and do idiotic things ALL THE TIME. no they should not be allowed to drink. they're dumb as fuck

  • HAHA America can compare its laws with 3rd World countries! Good for you guys, you have achieved something spectacular...

  • @sa17ma18ra Of course some Americans can can compare its laws with 3rd World countries, its that the majority are still stubborn & set in their outdated ways of thinking. Only 22% of Americans are in favor of lowering the drinking age.

  • america is ass backwards and has no culture

  • did you all hear that, that so called experiment showing human maturity was done on rats. MADD is nothing but a bunch of bitter cock sucking women whose kids died in alchol related incidents and cant seem to get over it. well they need to shut their cunts and get that nigger obama to change the drinking age to 18

  • they speak of drinking as if it starts at 18 when in reality it starts a lot younger nowadays, i know personally that kids were drinking going into h.s and as freshmen at 13yo.. i do think that the drinking age is too high but at this point im not sure if lowering it would be a good idea because theres too many irresponsible people out there ..if it ever gets lowered then people need to realize that drinking crimes may increase in the short term while people get accustomed to this new society

  • @illestgcboymr2 You hurt someone, you pay the price. No matter if you are inhibited by any type of mind altering substance. You make the choice, you pay for the consequences. I advocate repealing all prohibition laws at the federal level and allow the states to decide.

This allows each state to be an example to others. Should the laws work then another state will probably adopt them. If not then... well you get the picture.

  • @RegainTruth just have a uniform legal drinking age and be done with it. It makes me want to vomit that young people waste their money on shit like this when there is so much poverty and suffering in the world. Maybe if they had life a lot harder they wouldn't be so reckless.

  • @fatpizzaman Actually, the people with the hard lives are the ones that go buy a few beers to feel better about their poor sufferable lives.

    You're a Socialist, right?

  • @kiwisunshine5233 Not quite, but there are elements of Socialism that would certainly make the world a much better and upstanding place to live in.

  • Where I come from

    Drinking age 18

    Driving age 18.

    You're so unlucky America xD

  • Start 4:20

  • in Poland.

    alcohol:18

    driving:18

    weed: iegalize it!

  • Responsibility comes before rights.

  • Its better to have the drinking age above the driving age. At least we could have sober drivers!

  • @tatomuck18 No, you'll just have more young drivers who go from dangerous noob to drunk. Its best to have alcohol below driving age like the other European countries who have way less alcohol issues even though they have the legal age as low as 16.

  • if they lower the drinking age to 18 then more and more teens are going to buy alcohol which means that theyre gonna sell more which means more money to the gouvernement ! everything is about money to america so why didnt they think of this? i guess theyre just stupid

  • Here in the Netherlands....

    alcohol:16

    weed:18

    driving:18

    21 is shit !!!

  • I'm old enough to not care :)

  • pretty much any law in the usa is based on lies and distortions

  • u know what i dont undestand is why does the us let kids at 18 to go fight in a war and kill but u have to wait till21 to drink wtf

  • Here is denmark you can drink at any age, buy alcohol in shops from age of 16, and at bars and discos from age of 18, Its great!

  • Ron makes a great point here. You can't stop a certain population from doing something. They will do it anyway behind closed doors.

  • Its funny how they picked UW stout as a "major party" school, when UW madison is way bigger and considering there is Edgewood college and MATC all grouped right next to it.

  • If they lower the drinking age wouldn't the inevitable extra sales in alcohol make up for the 10% fine? Or even a raise on the tax on alcohol to help cover the loss in high way funds.

  • @smk417 Raise a tax!? You must not know America that well! the fact of the matter is, this issue only affects those close in age to the restricted limit. It is not a concern to the majority of the populous, so action in that regard (resetting the age limit in individual states) wont happen until america as a whole starts accepting the fact that there is no reason for the age limit to be 21 and that ridiculous road funding block is removed. I honestly believe Madd has done more damage than good

  • make alcohol illegal, legalize marijuana

  • "we need to close the loopholes in the underage drinking law"

    like the fourth amendment?

  • Turn on closed captioning at 7:51... xD

  • Damn. I would HATE to live in the States. Here I am in Ontario thinking 19 is bad :S

  • I live in Australia.. the age of alcohol consumption here is 18.. I understand that there are many reasons for and against having the age of drinking (legally) set to 18, and I would be deluding myself if I said that I haven't seen some of the downsides to drinking; however, I believe that all nations around the world need to realise that being considered an adult comes with rights and responsibilities. If you decide for that to be 21... then make the responsibilities accountable at 21...

  • The "go to war argument" is uniformed. The age for drinking was 21 from prohibition until 1970. The age of war was also 21 until Viet Nam. Why not argue not to send you off to war until 21?

  • @Savvyjen7 "the age of war was also 21" prove that statement please.

  • I think the debates over lowering drinking age is slightly idiotic at times. Since it is always pointing one main thing that being "Teens" will drink and drive, do stupid things, and such. Well don't "adults" do this too? Didn't Mel Gibson drink and drive, and isn't he considered an "adult"? Seems like there is a disconnect. Also couldn't the police forces move from enforcing underage drinking laws to enforcing drunk driving laws?

  • you can go fight a war when ur 18 but cant have a beer gayyyy

  • People should learn out to drink before they can drive.

  • The 21 year old drinking age is bullshit, based on lies and distortions.

  • @RodrigueMoore

It is more specifically based on fat stupid nanny mothers who are also all conservative christians, although I bet we could all figure that out, couldn't we?

  • @bulbinking do you know why there are no fat stupid nanny liberal atheist mothers??? Because there are none. They abort or fix themselves so they arent bothered by any children. Which is a good idea for yourself, go abort yourself.

  • @AntaresInScorpius

Why are you so upset by this remark? I doubt anybody subscribed to REASON tv is christian, and many of them probably share the same perspective.

also nanny is opposite to liberal

and athiest is opposite to stupid

    u mad?

  • @bulbinking no, but my reply obviously pissed you off. also did you notice the guys in favor of lowering the drinking age looked like a bunch of toothless, fat, inbreeds??? i bet one of them was YOU.

  • @AntaresInScorpius

So then you are a liberal because you think "You aren't responsible enough to do this according to biased speculation so we are making it illegal" is a BAD reason to take away a persons right to do what they want with their body? I guess that means a lot of political viewpoints are secretly liberal, including some republican orientations >___>

  • @bulbinking you sound like a closet case.

  • @AntaresInScorpius

So then... an ad hominem and red herring in a single sentence? I can see this conversation can go no further. Good day to you sir.

  • @bulbinking yo, u started with the red herring and ad homenim, i just used the same tactics and like a fagocrat, you couldnt handle it.

  • @bulbinking and AntaresInScorpius needs to learn some manners.

  • @bulbinking I'm a Christian, and I subscribe to Reason tv, just FYI.

  • I'm 20 and I have to wait 2.5 more months to drink? I'm more responsible then half the--...you know what, nevermind. Let me just continue to work as a computer technician and an aspiring video game designer.

  • I support lowering the drinking age to 18.

    --

    Eric Paine

    President & Founder

    Drink At 18

  • This lady's rat study is contradicted by a larger human study called 'Europe'.

But it's likely true that 25 is the age of maturity - insurance companies have already established this empirically. Best option: do away with the drinking age and raise the age of majority to 25. Including military service.

  • Another example of the do-gooders who want to control everyone's life. Forget MADD....what bout DAMM (drunks against mad mothers). lol

  • The "Age 21" Drinking Age makes the United States look a joke in the eyes of the rest of the world, the vast majority of countries in the world set their minimum drinking age at 18 many evan lower.

The United States is with Oman, Pakistan and Sri Lanka setting the minimum Drinking Age at 21, notice 2 of those countries are Islamic.

  • Hell no! Its not time to lower the drinking age. Please... Leave it as it is based on my use of alcohol before the legal age. It prevents us from doing it as much as we would have if it were legal.

  • Same for gambling age especially in Nevada...!!

  • Where I live the drinking age is 18 and drink-driving rates are far lower than any US state. Pretty much everyone wears a seatbelt without prompting, too, but you never hear about MIFOWASYFM (Mothers in Favor of Wearing a Seatbelt You F*ing Moron). Instead of lecturing to "other peoples' kids", parents here in Auslralia tend to talk to their own kids. Radical concept, I know, but you yanks should try it some time.

  • @robertcrew2

Your not the only one who lives in Australia robertcrew2. Are you blind? We have enormous problems with alcohol and its only getting worse. When it starts getting better you can come on hear and tell everyone how successful Austalia is.

  • @robertcrew2 You must be drunk.

  • Tax on alcohol has not kept up with the rate of inflation. A case of beer should be at at least $20 now. 25 years ago, alcohol was much more expensive in inflation adjusted terms, that helped curb excessive consumption then, it's the main reason binge drinking rises now, not the 21 legal age.

Somehow, I don't see Reason TV advocating higher excise taxes.

  • There's a reason the age is set at 21...because too many teens abused (and continue to abuse!) the luxury of drinking! I admit, I could drink legally in 1986, but I probably shouldn't have been able to! Setting the limit at 21 is a seriously good idea to keep enforced!

  • @cybervore: then why not set the age at 30 years old? Why not ban it completely? Oh, I forgot, we tried that. College Basketball players are referred to as 'kids'. Something is very wrong. House prices don't decline...everyone knows that!

  • @fupedworld I agree with you...but, we need to find a good middle ground...the majority of teens are good, responsible people! Unfortunately, the minority of abusers have messed it up for the rest of you! I was allowed to drink when I was 18, and I never abused it...but so many people I knew did! Sadly, there's no real way to tell the responsible people apart from the abusers, until after the fact, and someone has been hurt or killed because of it :(

  • @cybervore well not all teens are like that. and i say change the damn thing back to 18.

  • @Catsie15 I agree...not all teens are like that! Sadly, it only takes a few to screw it up for the rest! I think the majority of teens are responsible enough, without their friends...unfortunately. there's not a way to separate the responsible from the abusers :(

  • @cybervore The excise tax has not been raised for a long time and has lagged far behind the rate of inflation. That accounts for the binge drinking and abuse of alcohol, it's cheap enough to do that.

I don't see Reason TV arguing the excise tax should be raised.

  • @robertmike57

So your logic is, we should just tax the hell out of it to prevent underage drinking? Clearly that has worked well with ciga
