  • I've crossed this bridge several times while riding the southwest chief...One time we had to wait for a ship to pass...

  • ever get the bridge on the Ill. river on the SF at Chillicothe, plz let me know

  • If you are at the end of the train, couldn't someone just press the button, open the door and fall out? or is the last car's rear door disabled.

  • @TheDylanJoyce

The door is physically locked. The conductor has the key.

  • I did this in July, 06. Great Vid. I took the Chief all the way from Chi to LA,, Got into LAUPT about 20 mins late.. great ride.

  • i got stuck on the other side of this bridge once.

  • Fort Madison is one of my favorite railfanning locations. I've yet to go across the bridge on Amtrak, though! Nice shot!

  • This bridge is very interesting because of it age and design. Do you know if there is a vehicle weigh limit on the auto portion? It looks to me that it may well be restricted.

  • Yes there is, I think it's 15 tons or something. The DoT wants to build a new highway bridge here, but from what I've heard it's still many, many years down the line.

  • Good thinking. Way to go to the back of the train.

  • I've been there!
