There's an extended battery you can buy on Amazon that's only 16.99 that fits both the sensation and amaze.. It's called the anker 1900mah battery. It boosts battery dramatically and you don't even need a special back cover. It's the same size as the oem one

Get the sensation, its cheeper.. then root it using visionary.. then get Android Revolution HD which overclocks the phone to 1.5 ghz.. *hmm sounds familiar* which also gives you android 4.0 and Sense 3.6!

Awesome review. You've pretty much made my decision for me. However, you've left out one vital difference between the two:

The Sensation is T-Mobile's latest and last phone that allows tethering. The Amaze simply doesn't have the needed antenna. Therefore, no amount of tweaking can change that.

Sensation has better ROM's on XDA than the Amaze, that's why I traded it on craigslist. I do like the dedicated camera, and video buttons on the Amaze though. Just isn't as customizable when you root. I especially like have S-OFF rather than a company unlocked Bootloader.:)

The camcorder audio sucks on both devices. I have the sensation which I think looks better but I do like the small differences that differentiates it from the sensation

@getHULKsmashed it is a type of Gorilla glass, but not corning Gorilla glass. To avoid branding cost they do not call it Gorilla glass, but the Amaze does use a scratch proof glass similar to corning gorilla glass

It's not 1 GB of internal storage on the Sensation, it's 4 GB. You need to correct that.

I was looking at both phones but couldn't pass up an amazing deal on the Sensation for $29 at BB last weekend. The extra niceties of the Amaze just aren't worth the extra $200 for me right now.

@Mylazydoctor To me it looks like you should be aiming towards the Sensation. The Amaze is faster and more powerful but you do sacrifice size, battery, and cost. The Sensation will give you the best balance of what you are looking for. You could always opt for the Galaxy S2 on T-Mo or an unlocked Sensation XE as well

Run as far as you can away from SAMLOED. It's the most overrated technology ever. Colors look over saturated and fuzzy. I suggest you go to a T-Mobile store and see it in person.

@dylandock90 Honestly they are both top end Android devices. I am glad I upgraded from the Sensation to the Amaze as the Amaze is faster, smoother, and has the 42mbps on T-Mo. One trade off is the extra size and weight of the device. I do think the Sensation looks a bit nicer, but the Amaze is HTC's flagship device. If you don't mind a bit of the extra bulk and cost the Amaze is the way to go. Check them out at the store before you buy. Get a feel for them...Good luck

@ickedmel All the phones I review are purchased by Gazelle for me to review so I can't honestly say. If it were my own money I do not think the $600 price tag is worth the slight upgrade. Although you can cover some of the cost by trading in your Sensation at gazelle.com. I would wait for HTC Ville or the next quad-core gen handsets. If you have an upgrade it is worth the $200, if not I would wait.
