maxon has a pedal called t-o-d 9 that has a real tube built in and a dial that can adjust the saturation on the tube as well as the normal drive of the pedal for lots of combinations of tube and pedal drive. Looks up Dave Weiner's review of it.
Would you recommend me the sd9 if I already own a ts9? do they sound alike? I want a distortion pedal with more grit than the typical tubescreamer overdrive (which I love) but I don't know if the maxon sd9 would sound the same. I'm also thinking in the zvex box of rock, OCD, keeley fuzzhead... I'm a bit lost, what do you think?
I'd say get the SD-9. It does not sound like a tube screamer. It's a more sharper, gainer distortion tone. You can get soaring tones with lots of sustain - nothing like a tube screamer. However you can make the SD-9 sound close to a TS pedal by turning down the gain and the tone knob all the way down.
When you engage the pedal, it can create some hum/noise which is audible if you don't play. It's dead silent if you don't engage it. It's true bypass.
Buy a danelectro d-2 fab overdrive $15, belive it or not it rocks. Dod overdirve preamp/ 250 $40, Ibanez ts7 $40, Digitech screaming blues $40, Boss ds1, or Digi hot head. At mf and soundclips for each.
i was wondering whether you could give me your opinion when comparing the boss DS-1 and Digitech Hot head....Is there a difference in quality and Distortion level?....heavier or the same...
hi man its me again. i asked you couple days ago if a fuzz would work on my epiphone. u said yes. i doesent. i wanna know where the problem is i got the dallas arbiter fuzz and a marshall valvestate S80. do i need other effects or a better amp? please tell me THX
The Das Fuzz pedal really rocks man. I can`t bealive how good sound. Perfect for Hendrix stuff. Did you try some Eric Johnson and Eric Clapton sounds with it?
Arrgh, I accidentally removed the last comment, sorry! The question was what blue players influenced me the most. Answer: Jimi Hendrix, Albert King, SRV, Scott Henderson, Freddie King, John Scofield, Robben Ford. The list goes on and on...
great to c playing like that on u tube, its real playing not a load of shredding that all sounds the same, great tone and great phrasing aiso, more of this please..
How's the action on this compared to a Squier strat from a starter package? I just hope it's lower, cuz my squier's is higher than my acoustic, but my acoustic's pretty low compared to other acoustics.... Just wondering, cuz I really wanna get this guitar!
The action was good, but I lowered it a little bit to make it easier to play. Action on guitars is a personal thing, and I always play around with the action until I'm happy with it. It's not that hard, all it takes is an Allen key!
The ZYS is a tube screamer/OD pedal - it's the one I use last on this clip. Built by a friend of mine. If you want one, let me know and I'll tell how to get a hold of him.
Some Deep Purple sounds with the Das Fuzz. Your videos are always pleasing to the ear. Good job!

Nice Robert! It is hard to decide between the SD-9 and ZYS. I wish I could have afforded to grab that strat from you when you sold it.

Hey Rob,
When you did this video did you connect the other pedals before the Das Fuzz? That might explain that hiss.
T2TB 3 years ago
When you say that the das fuzz tends to create some noise, do you mean noise when the pedal is engaged, or like good fuzz "noise?"

Have you ever compared the SD-9 to a Fulltone OCD side by side?

Sorry, no I have never played the OCD.
rotren 3 years ago
hi, how do you find this effect compared to de ehx big muff? it different when you use a cam. thanks
danieldpg 3 years ago
Big Muff is way different. It's thick and bizarre. The Das Fuzz is more like a Fuzz Face.
rotren 3 years ago
Man! I should of gotten this instead of the boss ds-2 turbo distortion

What are the settings on the DS9. And was the amp clean set up ?
Stokkelo 3 years ago
It's an SD-9, and tone is set low, around 9 o'clock. Volume all the way up and gain at 2 o'clock. Amp was set up clean.
rotren 3 years ago
That ZYS was so bright and lovely, did you set the tone that way or is it just a brighter box?
beefyoriginal 3 years ago
It's how I set up my gear for this clip. It's a TS kind of pedal, with a lot more tweakability.
rotren 3 years ago
Also for fuzz best is the dod flashback fuzz $40.

What problems are you experiencing?
rotren 4 years ago
it sounds more like heavy metal. it sounds almost like distortion. i dont know where the problem is. i hope you do
PaulPinkel 4 years ago
Could be you need a better amp. Maybe take your pedal and guitar to a guitar store and try it through a good tube amp.

just awesome, i could listen for houres. make more videos man. GREAT

Azrael888 4 years ago
I am not sure - I have not played a TS-9 in recent years. The Maxon SD-9 is great! Very thick and juicy distortion - it's not a tube screamer pedal.
rotren 4 years ago
Ahh, I am after a good over drive pedal, not a distortion... thanks anyway though, cool playing sir!
