In a matter of minutes, something extremely useful and costly (when it was new) was turned into a mass of metal and rubber that was mined and made (creating pollutants) will be trucked (creating pollutants and using fuel) to a place where it will be destroyed further(using more fuel and polutants). This process will end up using more fuel and creating more polutants and waste than if they left the vehicle as is. It is the same for the whole program. Good job obama.

I think most Cash for Clunkers cars where dismantled a lot better than this one - no recycling of tyres, body panels etc took place here. A decent salvage yard makes its money from all the parts, this looks more like a propaganda video than a genuine car recycling.

I don't know much about this Cash for Clunkers thing as I don't live in the USA but I own a 1972 car and a 1987, if we're supposed to buy a new car, say, every five years, then by keeping my 'clunkers' on the road I've prevented the pollution from the creation, and later destruction, of 10 new cars. That seems pretty enviromentially friendly to me. And the parts I've bought for my cars have been purchased in my home country, thus helping the economy.
take all old good reliable cars that none are made like that today and replace them with cars with onstar that can turnoff and on ur car when it wants

The 1992 feels like it was built very well, actually has "REAL" steel bumpers, cast iron cylinder heads(not that aluminum shit that warps) and the A/C is a way way colder than the 2001. Maybe because it uses the better performing R12 that our government so happened to not like, just like how they hate good reliable vehicles too.

I don't know much about this Cash for Clunkers thing as I don't live in the USA but I own a 1972 car and a 1987, if we're supposed to buy a new car, say, every five years, then by keeping my 'clunkers' on the road I've prevented the pollution from the creation, and later destruction, of 10 new cars. That seems pretty enviromentially friendly to me. And the parts I've bought for my cars have been purchased in my home country, thus helping the economy.

Out with the good reliable trucks, and in with the plastic shitboxes they make nowadays. I have 2 trucks, a 1992 Silverado exactly like this one, and a 2001 Silverado. The 1992 feels like it was built very well, actually has "REAL" steel bumpers, cast iron cylinder heads(not that aluminum shit that warps) and the A/C is a way way colder than the 2001. Maybe because it uses the better performing R12 that our government so happened to not like, just like how they hate good reliable vehicles too.

Notice how it looks like the gasoline and coolant just run down to the ground, instead of being contained? I read that the EPA paid a visit to John Spinks Chevrolet as a result of this video. They have a system to catch all the fluids, so the EPA could not prove they let that stuff hit the ground.
I wish they could have proved it, and fined the dealership. Anybody that takes delight in destroying a good vehicle like that truck has something wrong with them.

I agree, the sad part is the banks are giving big loans out to people with terrible credit, which is what this program caters really well to. 4500 in equity is a lot of money not to be ignored by a bank. Let's see how the rate of repossession will rise in the next couple years. People will go from owning a perfectly fine, paid off vehicle to having a hard time with a 500 dollar payment.
