First, they chase the rabbit to exhaustion. Rabbits are faster sprinters, but stoats have better endurance, are super-persistent, and they keep after the rabbit 'til the rabbit drops.

Then they jump on the rabbit's back and sever the spinal column with a bite to the back of the neck.

Rabbits are totally f*cked if they encounter a stoat, it's just nature's design.

Why do people always pull for the rabbits? Those things are a big problem in my neighborhood because they are severely overpopulated. Actually this is an excellent shot of a Stoat taking down some dinner! These little critters do eat a lot and require a good portion of their body weight to be eaten every day to survive.
