  • Way better than the book

  • Other than perhaps Tony Robinson's Odysseus, this is probably the finest English language interpretation of Homer's Odyssey yet made for children.

  • i watched this for the first time last night, expecting so-bad-it's-good

what i got was a legitimately entertaining show and a clever way to teach kids about mythology

  • Older than I am, but I always used to watch it when it was on repeats. Great animation, better stories, tons of awesome psychadelica, one of the best vintage cartoons out there.

  • please someone make this into a movie....

  • ulysees! ulys-see-es! soaring through all the galaxies!

  • Ulysses the way back to earth has been wiped from my memory......Fucking windows 98, get Bill Gates in here.

  • The original intro is in french language. This is the english remake.

  • @Shilmia No, this was composed by Israeli Haim Saban and Shuki Levy in English language. There was however another theme composed specially for the French version by a French composer (who did a lot of the rest of the soundtrack for the series). That theme was originally composed in French.

  • SPACE JESUS!

  • Why cant all childrens programming of been like that? Just imagine, Digimon, or Pokemon, In Space, With the Greek Mythos, And Quite A Dark Premise!

  • @j7ster If you think this was dark, you should see what they actually did with Digimon for Season 3. :D In fact, that's the reason why I like it so much, like Ulysses 31 here.

  • Having grown up during the 80's im sad that this cartoon was completely unknown to me. The premise seems awesome and as with all cartoons from the era it's theme music is catchy as hell. I would have been singing this along with the other classics i.e. M.A.S.K., Jayce & the Wheeled Warriors, Tiger Sharks etc.

  • Simply Awesome !

  • i remember this one,absolutely fantastic!

  • TOTALY LOVE IT

  • Ulysses has options!

  • @Cheese71 lolz

  • space jesus

  • cool

  • the song is just awesome

  • @zetalore It's the best of this cartoon for me. Amazing song.

  • i watch this in year 5 with my teacher and class miss sparrow and now i've watch all 735 episode (683 where in japenese with english sub)

  • Stupid show ad stupd theme tune.

  • @rojblake82 And stupid commentator, not knowing how to use a bloody keyboard properly. :P

  • Ulices 31, 3D movie would really be cool. It's the best cartoon ever!!!!!!!!

  • MOVIE THIS NEEDS A MOVIE

  • oh man oh man oh man

    <3

  • The original anime is French. Ulysse 31 is a great series!!! The name Ulysses is from the greek: Oδυσσεύς (ancient greek) - Οδυσσέας (modern greek)

  • did they ever released any merchandise to ulysses in the states?

    in germany they don't... unfortunately!

  • @uppuhakobi

I remember a friend of mine bought the Odysseus spaceship and Telemacus, Ulysses and Nono figures at the time. But that was in France.

  • 3 people were cursed by the gods and turned as lifeless as stone

  • @somethinglacking1 quality comment!

  • @cptbecks07 The story and original dubbing are French, the character design was Japanese. I don't know why you're stereotyping French people so much, but it's rather stupid. Btw, we don't use the word "sacrebleu" anymore, for ages.

  • Why isn't Hollywood making this into a movie? Flip sake, just do it already!

  • If you don't love this you don't love nothing!

  • Not many cartoons these days are loosrly based on ancient Greek stories. This had a real story unlike todays cartoons.

  • @arokh72 Maybe they could give it a go. Like a retelling of the story of Oedipus using characters from Spongebob Squarepants.

  • How come they called him Ulysses insted of Odysseus?

  • @Ash6555555 : No particular reason was ever given - though it was suggested that Ulysses would work better/sound better to a western audience than Odysseus would have. Chalk it up to a Management/Marketing decision, I guess.

  • @cthulhusmop Thank you. I guess that's what happens when a person with no intellect suggests an idea.

  • @Ash6555555

I believe it comes from the fact that this is a french cartoon. In french, the hero is named "Ulysse". His spacecraft is also named "Odysseus".... which is the name of Ulysse in english language ! Quite confusing but I think this is the reason why they named him Ulysses instead of Odysseus. The shape of the spacecraft is the logo of "France 3" channel, where was broadcasted this cartoon.

  • @samsagace14 No, Ulysses is a transformation of the latin word "Ulixes", which mean "Odysseus" (the original greek name).

  • @deusirae76

  • dude i also grew up on this stuff, totally EPIC!!! this deserves a remake!!

  • So 80s I can't get my jeans on!!!!

  • digital freaking awesome!

  • THANK YOU FOR THE UPLOAD!!!

Oh god...man you have no idea how long I've been looking for this. I've had that theme song stuck in my head since I was 7 on that fateful Sunday morning. lol

  • Ulysses was a fuxking LORD, he was ALMOST as hard as Optimus Prime. the mythology and epic awesome episodes ruled the WORLD back in the 80s, i remember the bets episodes being Cisiphous, Kronos, Lotus Eaters, and meeting the ancient ulysses with the suitors for Helen or and Circe too and the pigs> epic stuff

  • This was BIG back in the day!!!!!

Gonna search the net for some episodes

  • we used to watch this back in the philippines!

    good times!

  • One of the greatest 80's french japanese cartoon !!!

  • Analogue Synths!!!

  • this cartoon is awesowe and this version is cool too ( ulysse's theme rock's ^^ )

    but.. Zeus'voice?

understand me : you can just see his non-moving face and hear his voice to figure the guy. so when he speak, well i imagine him as an angry, rude and maybe stupid god, not a real match.

I grew up with the french version. he's quiet and composed . while he explain to ulysse his faults, all the things seems to go to the inevitable.

even after many years it still chill me ^^

  • 36 and still love it...

  • That cartoon is retarded as shit. He rescued some enslaved children from an evil cyclops and that angers the gods? Those gods are dicks.

  • @bradman3001 That's Homer for you! :P Seriously, pick a copy of the Iliad, the Odyssey, or ANY tale of ancient greek mythology and chances are...yep, the gods are petty, cruel and all round bastards.

  • @bradman3001 Greek gods were far from perfect entities in the myths, they were all concerned by human flaws, jealousy was the most prominent. Usually, it meant dramatic consequences for the humans.

  • ...as created by Homer! That Homer was way ahead of his time!

  • Can you imagine the Scissor Sisters covering this theme song?!

  • Ulysses is voiced over by British voice actor Matt Bermon

  • I remember when this came out, I was in junior high. It was an interesting, though very weird, premise. Even more so now I know how far stellar objects are from each other. Plus, if you know certain astronomical data, even approximately, you can use a telescope, preliminarily.

  • aw, those were the times, those were nice cartoons!

  • It's me Nono,

    small robot you know

    friend of Ulysses

    :/

  • The son sounds like such a wiener here

  • try to hear the italian version

  • The kid's of today are suffering for the lacklustre cartoons they air now. This blew my mind as a 6 year old, expanded my horizons and was a genuinely great cartoon. Cheers!

  • Comment removed

  • @sbyrne1 I've got to say that I'm totally with you on that one! Big time!

  • THis kicks shit.rawsome!!At 1:30 the robot vox box drops.such a flashback.absolute fav theme :))

  • I remember rushing back from school to make sure i didn't miss this. It was way ahead of its time.....

  • American intro? Why do they have British accents then?

  • "You are alive, my son." Of all the obvious comments to make when reunited with your son!! ;)

  • This is a french serie. It was created by Bernard Deries and Jean Chalopin. It was produced in Japan. Personnaly, I prefer french dubbing. The voices of Zeus and Ulysses are better.

  • Marvelous, a Space Jesus Fantastic Hero

  • the original????

    WTF!

This serie is from France! coproduced with Japan!

  • @kanfor Yea, there's no way in hell that the original had spoken explanations in english. ^^

  • I grew up on this. Utterly beautiful, the concept of this story is so genuine - love the connection between ancient myths and science fiction, great character names. Watching this gives me a certain unique, magical feeling. I now realized that it had a great influence on my character. I wish I could ever thank the creators of Ulysses.

  • @sijjajamamuta I am Spanish. The concept of connection between greek gods mitology and the Story of the voyage of the original Ulysses, named The Iliada , and cience fiction in this cartoon make the same sensation you talk about in me. I wish I could ever thank the creators of Ulysses too.

  • So fucking good. Lovin' It....

  • im the 80th child

  • me encula oir esta cancion.

    5 stars. hi from Jupiter!

  • je ne suis pas daccord sur le generique de ulysses 31 l'intro original est en francais signé saban voila !

  • The English-speaking really do not lack cowlick! they always want to make believe that they made everything before the others! Know that this cartoon was to create by Jean Chalopin (jayce, the littles, the mysterious cities of gold, mask,..)This music was to copy to the music of origin in French

  • fucking ace!!! kids shows today suck ass compared to what we had, although if i had an x-box 360 when i was 10 i wouldnt have given a shit about cartoons!

  • The tittle is funny ! "Original intro" !!! It's a french and japanese series, the original intro is not the american !!! It's terrible how american can think have all invented !!!!! ;-) Zeus's voice is not as aggressive in the original version, it is even serene, thus reinforcing the distressing side ... So in my opinion, poor quality dubbing American.

  • Actually, I think the poster refers to the 'original' compared to the parody he also has posted.

  • Il faut être juste, on pourrait commencer par ne pas appeler Américains aux gens des États-Unis...

  • If you look at the old Greek myths, Zeus and the other Olympian gods acted pretty Human like, and by that I mean that they were prone to succmbing to very Human emotions, including wrath. So while, yeah, Zeus is more serene in the French version, but for him to be wrathful is not a big stretch. It really makes sense. So how is this poor dubbing? It sounds good enough really.

  • I love that flashy part with the columns!!!XD..

  • FUCKING BRILLANT I LOVE THIS SHIT.

  • The Original intro was French <.<

  • French AND Japanese ;)

  • I have never heard of the show till just recently. In my part of the world, Voltron (Golion) was the big hit! as well as Mazinger Z (tranzor z)and Robotech (macross). I just recently became aware of this cartoon through another youtube video. Seems like I missed out on another good cartoon.

  • Ulysses and his friends went on a mission, but got lost and captured by the Gods. The story of the cartoon was Ulysses and friends travelling through the Cosmos to escape the Gods, as their families were put to sleep by the Gods. It's like a sci-fi version of the Greek myth. And it still gives me goose pimples watching it!!

  • i loved it but cant really remember what its all about

  • The Toys was a big hit in Europe and so painfully difficult to get!

  • me 2

  • i miss that show :(

  • I don't. I have it on DVD. My 5 year old daughter has nearly worn them to death
