  • Is it wise to smoke on a Rig? Can't there be gas?

  • i worked for Big Dog Drilling in west Texas. i have worked for most of them in my 12 year career. A lot of that show is staged

  • Nice, but it'd help to have some captions so we could learn what's happening.

I saw the reality show about this, so I know a bit about who's doing what. Not everyone does, though.

    Thanks for posting, though!

  • Rankest video ive seen. hard as fuck!

  • Smoking when you drill for oil???? WTF!!! Stupid!!!

  • Comment removed

  • For all you well history reporters: please say whether or not there are cement returns, it makes it so much easier for us who make wellbore schematics for the DOGGR.

  • damn that looks hard lol

  • Haha look at that fucker smoking at the drill deck, stone age technology here, better in Norway. this is the next piper alpha

  • look at that dumbass smoking on the floor! believe it or not shit can go wrong u idiot! , ur probly dead or wish u were fucker!

  • I work machining the connections on drill pipe and the like although mostly roller reamers. Always interesting to see what goes on out in the field.

  • damn thats crazy hard work

  • I would work on that rig/crew anyday.

  • this is the only real way...

  • @billiedreher I wouldn't do it any other way. What the laymen don't get is that this is the easy part. Sometimes...often...we do this all night every 30 seconds. You know

  • Drain your mouse hole.... lovin the clean floor though must have a good leasehand

  • . Land rigs use time and proven ways to get the bang for your buck. Offshore deals with WATER... TIDES... HURRICANES...DEPTH... that was a really dumb question

  • God I love the oil industry. So awesome.

Aren't spinning chains quite archaic these days though? and why is it that land rigs seem so far behind in technology compared to offshore rigs?

  • @brumajum90 there`s nothing like throwing chain!!!it`s an art...

  • I have been reading the comments and I have to say a few things. I made this video. I get paid for this video and I am the one with the cigarette in his mouth. I know about kelly spinners and top drive and iron roughneckin. I have worked on those rigs. On my rig we throw the chain. We pull the slips and we still settle our differences off the side of location. I love what I do because I can do it. I work hard and I like it. My job makes me dangerous.

  • I like being dangerous. If you are an iron roughneck...I would not fuck with a west Texas hand. While the rest of this country grows fatter by the day...I do what I do

  • I been reading

  • this video is awesome. i worked for Nabors out of Victorville, Texas for about 3 months. Brings back good memories. I also worked in workover rigs for Pool Oil Well Servicing Company out of Alice, Texas. i'm just remeniscing.

  • great video!!!i'm studying drilling right now, and it was just what I was looking for!!!

    thanks!

  • great video!!!i'm studying drilling right now, and it was just what I was looking for!!!

    thanks!

  • That looks like a way cool job

  • I dont miss that shit at all serious hard work. but u are a knob to smoke on a drill floor and i wouldnt put up with it. chew if u have to. but try smoking with a broken jaw. piper alpha forever u fuckrs.

  • @LOSERLARRY we drill in the Permian Basin. Have for 100 years. Its ok to smoke.

  • yalls pusher must be really proud of yall. i been in the field for 2 years, dads been 22 yrs, and gramps was 35 lets see yall trip some fuckin pipe and stop doin pussy shit!

  • @riverfootballchamp7 Your comment doesn't even make sense.

Nobody gives a fuck about your family oilfield history. Shut your mouth and get back to sweeping junior.

  • @navyman4 .... being a fleet Marine ive seen what you've done. hard work i know. Now try being roughneck and youll see that its two different kinds of hard work. Its different then the military and how things operate. Ive seen Navy, Marines and Army guys quit withing the first few days and havent even been on deck yet.

  • what experience do you have to have for a derrick man on a drilling rig

  • @droidguy2002

    drilling rig experience

  • how do those chains lose the slack, does someone pull it (some one behind the camera?)

  • @HairTriggerRaptor

    catheads

  • I was in the Navy for 12 Years. Been on flight decks, launched missles, was in charge of Connected Replenishment at Sea (youtube at sea Refueling), I've shot at small boats, chained down Helos during a HURRICANE..However......This shit makes all that look like Disney Land on a cool summer day!

  • im a driller here in illinois get me a job on this rig i wanna get otta here 618-308-0557

  • yeah you know what youre doing alright, you got a motorman of all people with a square hanging out if his face in the middle of making a hook, i wouldve run all 3 of them off and told you to get your ass back on the pits

  • That's a dangerous looking ballet going on there...

  • Comment removed

  • everybody has always got somethin negative to say about hands in the oilfield...hands in the video...good job keep it up...everybody else that has negative shit to say...fuck off

  • i want to work on the rigs.

    no bullshit man.

  • Anyone has any idea how much is the salary in the rig? At lest?

  • @lolipopjohn 60 a year to start

  • wow! these chains! not for me tho, nah nah!

  • That is impressive - I cant believe how well you guys work together and know what the other person does. If I were there I'd be dead 10 seconds later from one of those chains! Well done.

  • old school chain throwin, good god only thought they still did that in texas :-P

  • robscot your a real man, i want to have your babies

  • Harsh Job

  • i do not know what in the fuck is happening!!!

  • get me a job. I'm a michigan roughneck that works on rigs built out of stuff from a texas junk yard.

  • you never realize how much you miss those no-slip mats on the floor until you work for a crappy drilling company. which patterson rig is that?

  • WOW very cool! learning about oil and gas accounting and the teachers stories all make sense now

  • Wow 0.o

    This is some real work...

    DAMN Respect.

  • get me a job..!!!

  • um what just happened that was crazy

  • Cowboys.

  • pretty cool looks like a patterson rig from my chair. i invite ya to check out my video, in the search box type in jvrigman

  • he looks so cool with that smoke in his mouth though......it'll look even cooler if the float didnt hold, some gas migrated upwards in the pipe, and ignited his head as stabbing mainhole!

    Now that.....would be cool.....from a distance!

ps-if you ever go workin on a rig, .... rules and guidelines....are in place for a reason.

  • I do look cool and I been smoking on the rig floor for the last 7 years. We are not drilling for gas and we have monitors. We know what we are doing. Safety freaks never get any work done.

  • @robscot971 yeah you know what you are doing...you'd work for me for about 10 seconds.

  • @garfieldalfred I'd be the best derrick hand you ever had

  • @robscot971 Guys like you drill and pump, guys like me refine and distrubute. I see guys bitchin about your smoking on the deck, i got no problem with it cause i smoke, however they are right about the 1 in a million chance of something happening. We all wear H2S monitors and sniff out the area of work ever 4 hours, nothings ever happened to me in 15 years at a refer. but once a month we always hear about guys going down and not making it home that night cause of H2S. Just be careful goddamnit!

  • @noisypipes05 not too mention nomex, gotta wear it, even in the hot summer heat, never once has it helped me. But i'll galdly put it on each on ever second i'm in the units cause I do know guys, badly burned old timers who wish they had fr clothing when they got burned!

  • @garfieldalfred Hi. I'm an author seeking on sigh info for a story I need to add to colection already sent to NY. This is my first time on UTube and hope I know what I'm doing. If you have the time, I'd appreciate your contacting my email address. Appreciatively. TheEight17

  • @robscot971 lmfao i agree their to pussy to do anything

  • @robscot971 I don't want to sound gay or anything. But you look pretty bad ass.

  • Old school? How about DUMBASS.Smoking on the floor was permitted....well,it wasnt ever really. The guys that "thought",it's all monkey see monkey do bullshit.A connection under a minute is not tough. However, people have now realised, accidents do happen (amazing i know), hence, hydraulics, pipe.kelly spinners. I could throw chain all day....but through wear and tear, fatigue....I'd sooner blow a hydraulic hose than lose a finger. I love throwin chain, but glad to see it leave.

  • Iron roughneck puss

  • Looks like hard work, too bad we are still using 19th century technology.

  • Yeah man, hard work never hurt anybody, what's wrong with that man, tell me all you know?

  • Better than that black gold bullshit.

  • the professional drillers....

  • Not anymore

  • Nice!! And clean sofar !

  • i used to design the drill bits and hammers for 3 DTH hammer manufactures. sadly 2 of those no longer exist but there hammers do. thanks for the vid

  • Also we could drill an upper Wilcox(1600ft.)hole,log it, laydown drillpipe, run casing with an endless rope(no powertongs)cement, and rig down in less than 24hrs. And that's no shit ! We would even have a cod mopping for the new worms. That's the Tullos way, from back in the early to mid 80's.

  • back in the day,I could throw nine wraps of barbed wire on a stove pipe with a dead cathead. All seriousness,we used to make a connection on a posthole digger(SINGLE) in under a minute or less, that includes stabbing the kelley in the rathole or kelleyshuck, picking up a joint off of the drillpipe float, five wrapsof chain,on each connection and while we pulled the slips on the kelley, ole drill would kick in the pump.

  • non è pericoloso fumare vicino al petrolio? e se butta un getto di petrolio?

  • fumar durante esta operacao é muito perigoso! e se houvesse um blowout? é por essas imprudencias que os acidentes acontecem... só lamento companheiro!

  • smokin on the floor on video! Wow! Wonder if he smokes over the shaker also

  • given a choose rig companys would drill with water as long as possible mud costs MONEY

  • nice, your still on your surface hole becuase your using water

  • Why are they throwing chain from the draw works side?(oklahoma style) Back in my day in the patch that was forbidden out in West Texas, because heaven forbide your fingers got caught in the chain and driller wasn't alert you were gonna lose them. If he could see your hands at least there was a chance you might keep em. Good connection times guys.

  • I have worked on 20 something rigs and thats the way it always is

  • Christ that chain take yer head off quicker than a squirrel jumping out of a hot griddle

  • shut the fuck up! like being controlled? :)

    sxy phone fun. 877.304.6769 ec

  • is that a stripper over the mousehole???? smart idea....an what chain is that your motorhand is pullin on coming off the back of the makeups???(no i dont mean the spinning chain)

  • I've been surfing YouTube for the past three hours looking for footage of a dril operation. And this is perhaps the very best footage I've found yet. You must have an awesome camera, and the sound quality is just amazing.

  • put that rig in ANWR!!! NOW!!! We need our own oil Screw the caribou!

  • it called a water based drilling rig... and it also looked like a patterson drilling rig

  • are u retarded??? they are using floc water

  • well everytime weve tripped out of tha hole we never had water come out of tha pipe weve always had oil bassed mud cum back out

  • holy shit man is the guy smoking on the floor, where is this russia?

  • pretty cool. breaking out with the table???? wrong place to be standing motorhand

  • i think he did............. dumb ass lol

  • wheres the mud at? I see nothing but water.

  • floc water..........

  • any videos on here where they drill in the U.S?

  • Sweet connection, boys.

  • What a shit show that was. Get with the times dudes. That rigs gotta have some miles on it...i mean what kind of kelly doesnt have a spinner on it these days....yikes.

  • Yeah got some miles on her maybe, but gaybots like you would not last on her thats for sure, you sound like a typical (modern "vomit") pathetic playstation pretender, can't spin chain you aint no roughneck just an arrogant little shit.

  • Spinning chain takes about a day to master...it aint rocket science dude. Your right though...i wouldnt last on her...the first thing i'de be doing when i rolled up and saw that old hay-rack drilling gopher holes is look for a place to turn my truck around. Working harder than you have to doesnt make you tough...just makes you stupid...and too lazy to look for something better. But by all means..slave away boys.

  • Yeah right fuckstick, just five minutes that will do.

  • you sound like a roughneck (for life) Thats the kind of attitude that keeps you at the bottom of the ladder...you better run along now and check your tongs little guy.

  • Wow, you sound really important Travis.

  • two words....work ethic....when you earn your way from leasepuppy to tool push through hard work and determination...you come out of that with work ethic. you can shrug your shoulders and say "whatever", but having good work ethic makes you a better man, and usually the better man for the job. think about, is a push going set up a dogfucker or a hard worker....pretty obvious. but i guess i'm stupid and magically got my pushin job....hard work had nothing to do with it!!

  • Everyone keeps trippin on the Guy with the smoke hangin in his mouth (looked unlit) oh well I went to pick up my slips and baash ross from a rig yesterday, Ringo #2, and everyone was smoking even the driller and the company man I was like well it if was gonna blow they prolly be the guys to know first

  • THEY DIDN'T DOPE THE STUMP!!

  • I come from a fairly new rig. ive never seen chain used in the mouse hole like that. pretty cool shit.

  • Old school. Cool. WTF is a iron rufneck anyway? I thought I was a iron rufneck.

I musta watched 10 videos of connections til I found one that looked familiar to me... and didn't take 10 minutes! 2 minutes flat and you were circulating and moving the pipe. Some places in SW KS, if ya stop moving longer than that, your stuck!

  • i didn't see smoke comin from that cigarette...thats the first thing i noticed..and gas well or not, most oilwells i've drilled had gas bearing formations throughout the well. not enough pressure to worry about...but if you lose circulation.....

  • Good connection lads, can't beat the older rigs & chain, just as quick, and heaps more fun, how many wraps competitions to break the boredom, hey what happens if a pipespinner dogs it nowdays? I bet the question will be "can anyone spin chain?"...

  • This is too cool. Seeing videos posted by people who actually do the work. Did you score with that babe you were dancing for?

  • some times when your trippin all night..a good ole smoke or dip is all the company ya have..besides this aint a gas well..smoke em if ya got em!!

  • i could see you smoking after you pump cement.

  • BEING VERY STUPID!!!!!SMOKING

  • h2s gas...hydrogeyn solphide, you can smell it,smells like rotten eggs, thats one way to detect it,

  • gas detector mate. h2s is odorless when in lethal concentrations. google it

  • when i worked in the oil field i had an h2s detector, i would but it right by my ass when i would fart and the thing would go off

  • good connection though!!!!!!

  • and wtf is the motor hand doing smoking on the floor!!!!!!
