Bob got a point. The social security fund was created in a time where the demographics were different, that is when more people were of working-age. It indeed has a surplus, but the surplus is shrinking every year, and the fund is expected to be exhausted by 2036 if no actions are taken. Cenk's solution to cut spending and fund social security with tax-revenue would be in conflict with the idea of the fund being a self-sustaining system.

Social Security is one of the few social programs I like. The people directly pay into it and everyone who paid into it gets something in return. It really is the people's money. The only change to Social Security I would like to see is giving people the option to op-out if they don't want to pay into it. That also mean those who do choose to op-out will not be able to collect SSI when they retire.

Social Security is one of the few social programs I like. The people directly pay into it and everyone who paid into it gets something in return. It really is the people's money. The only change to Social Security I would like to see is giving people the option to op-out if they don't want to pay into it. That also mean those who do choose to op-out will not be able to collect SSI when they retire.

Stopping social security would stop giving them the opportunity to spend money in your economy, thus it would make your consumer market even smaller. Your middle class is getting slim, if you lose them you're in trouble.

One of the main reasons Ponzi Schemes are successful is because of the fact that most of their customers are previous investors looking to reinvest. When the investor stakes claim to an investment he made, and collects his return, he invests for bigger gains, even though he got paid with someone else's money. This works provided that not everyone collects at one time. Ponzi Schemes are illegal for a reason. It is THEFT!
