UK winters will get colder because of the gulf stream not reaching us well as it was, because the polar ice cap is melting (look at some satellite images) which dilutes the amount of salt in the ocean, causing the warm gulf stream to effectvely "sink" to the cooler levels of the ocean.(salt water is less dense than pure water)Despite what you are told, the facts are there.
