You've would have to read the Satanic Bible to have a firm understanding of the symbolism behind the "invocation". LaVayan Satanism is Humanism, it is based heavily on human psychology, therefore the use of any names are purely to create an altered state of mind, resulting in a successful concentration of ones energy.

Why couldn't you call yourself one? The social stigma? I've called myself a Satanist for four years and I couldn't give a damn what anyone thinks. I don't go shouting it, but I don't really go out of my way to hide it either. Other people will just backstab and disappoint you. You only need a select few people.

Well said -- I used to be a JW, now I am a evolutionist. If I were to go back to a religion it would be this after careful consideration of the belief system that I already followed, and just denied beforehand. It is amazing; they really have kept Christianity in business all these years, and the Church of Satan does not even need to lift a finger.
