  • that'd be funny if someone shouted, "Play "Don't Stop Believin'!" right in the middle of his foot trick.

  • Ugh kinda boring...

  • wow! steve is a magic man.

  • Hi-Hat abuse.

  • Boooring! I'd sleep too...

  • @liliclilic You will never play like this, nor will anyone you know!! The truth hurts!! World Class Drummer!! Get out of music!!

  • i bet the drummer for the band is like....fuck

  • @Natalya1sFit hahahaha! IKR!

  • the guy behind him (or a girl) is doing the right thing.. this is nice as a trick or spice but not he basis for a show

  • What's the technique with swinging the stick down? I keep goofing that up. Also those little hand tricks?

  • @badcock1 Natalie Merchant did a song called, "Jealousy", you should check it out...

  • thats fuckin irritating

  • My friend, Hoagie the Elf, blows this kind of stuff away.

Hoagie did a hi hat solo called "Mr. Hi Hats on Psychedelia" and blew the audience through the roof.

Now, S. Smith is great and a national treasure, but Hoagie the Elf is cosmic in his ability to wow the audience and spur women to hurl their panties on stage.

I love hanging out with Hoagie at Guitar Center and watching him blow away the double bass blaster metal heads and send them crying like big babies, out the door.

    Real.

  • Saw him in Belfast, unbelivealbe

  • people in the back need to wake up and enjoy the awesomeness.

  • Ahmen!

  • haha i saw him do this live in folkestone

the only thing he didnt do was the leg bit

    haha ridiculously amazing!!!

  • Max Roach did it better.

  • I don't think so,....smith took what roach did to another level

  • NO WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY

  • Compare...it's obvious my friend. Obvious. Buddy kills 'em all though. Do your homework.

  • Roach Smokes Rich, don't get me wrong Rich is great, but there is one man that can smoke both a Mr Elvin Jones!

  • I'm not sure where you get your info but in a proper drum battle, Buddy Rich would beat any drummer ever. Elvin and Max have their own thing but TECHNICALLY speaking Rich is the best. Check out the drum battle between Blakey, Elvin, and Max...Blakey kills all of 'em. Elvin just looks lost. I love his playing and beats more than Max and Buddy but he's not a battler...They all hold a special place within me. Blakey is great though...

  • Buddy... I have high respect for but I'm still incredulous to the fact he could never read music. Although Jazz drumming is purely improv. I did in fact just watch a little bit of that solo had to keep it low so did really hear much so i turned it off. I shall re-watch. But although that was a.... a faux opinion because really my absolute favorite jazz drummer is Joe Morello. I still can't even say that, each jazz drummer has something special like you said, and they're all amazing!

  • you said it...and Morello is just one of the finest drummers ever. One day man, one day. I need to get practicing again. It's been months since I've done it steady...but those names just make me want to hit things (in the best way).

  • Sure...I don't think the sound was that great...so the hats sound ultra bright and washy..I'd love to hear it live..I think it would be much more musically enjoyable that way.

  • its AMAZING live. he came and performed with our percussion ensemble this past spring. fantastic drummer and great solo!

  • My god that was awesome! I had the pleasure of seeing him do that in person......just crazy.

  • wow

  • yes mr hit hat awesome!!!

  • lol wtf. That is awesome

  • Max Roach would be proud.

  • Great way to much time on a tour bus!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great way to much time on a tour bus!!!!!!!!!!!

  • just saw him in ann arbor, unbelievable

  • wonderful!!!

  • great drummer! He has the qualities of the old masters and a style of his own.AWESOME!

  • would it be too much of a rip off if i used this as my solo spot.. it's not as if many people would have seen it before, i should ask Steve first though right?

  • naw dude. not at all. if you could do it' i'd give you props. you just wouldnt get the credit of creativity. but a solo wasnt just made for one person. If everyone put like a copy right on a beat they made..then there'd be like...30 people in the world playing drums.

  • lol so true

  • I'd say use it if you liked it that much. Be happy Steve is such a great and has influenced you, and give credit to that.

  • bestiaccia!!!

  • oh my god

  • but GOD he do a great job

  • I doubt that somebody ever played better than him on the HH. Papa Jo, Max, etc. they are all great, but SS is the best. Period!

  • hmmm, my jaw was still intact, ?

  • O

    M

    F

    G

    this man is a genius!!

  • Watch Buddy Rich.

  • yep...buddy is the best

  • there's noone like BR. :-)

  • indeed.

  • bad ass performance

  • Realmente Steve es excelente, ahora realmente sus "compañeros" de banda unos irrespetuosos, falta que sacaran una almohada y se pusieran a dormir

  • Steve Smith is just something else awesome !

  • I grew up on the next street over from Steve and was friends with his younger brother,we used to sit outside his practice shed and listen to him play, never did I hear anything like this..amazing

  • Smitty Rocks!

  • For 3 minutes and 49 seconds I just sat with my jaw on my living room floor here...

    Steve is amazing!

I would love to Steve set up a hi hat in front of a silly band like linkin park and just destroy them with this talent versus the trend of what is thought to be "talent" today....

    Awesome video!

  • pwnage

  • oooooooooooooooooooooo

    maestro de maestros

    masterrrrrrrrrrrrrr jauajauaja

    buenas energias

    adios

    bless

  • thats the smallest drum set ive seen!

  • SMile and say "MR. HI HAT"

  • Steve Smith is just too good for drums. He's done everything. From drum solo to massive kits to solo on one stick one hand and one piece of metal Steve Smith has done it all.

    Now I can die.

  • patetico

  • jajajajaja

  • esta muy chingon el video, aceptalo, pero lo q no entiendo es porq los otros weyes de atras estan tan aburridos o son juezes? o son otros participantes?

  • I SAW HIM LIVE ON FRIDAY AT THE NORTH SEA JAZZ FESTIVAL IN AHOY ROTTERDAM! saw a drum clinic where he explained how he had integrated indian music and counting into his drumset playing. at the end I got to shake his hand and buy a cd. it was great

  • Sliy wabit..tricks are for kids

  • rrllrrllrrllrrllrrllrrllrrlrrllrrllrlrlrlrlrlrlrllrrllr

  • A-freakin'-mazing!!!

  • Mindblowing. Steve is officially a chromedome deity. Many thanks to you and your sis for making this available to us.

And btw, I dug your playing on "Chuck E's In Love."

  • Sorry, but I just don't get it.

  • It's about technique and control. When you have those to this degree, everything that relates to playing the drums, or any instrument for that matter is just that much easier to execute

  • SWEEEET!

  • dang awesome stuff, great drummer

  • whoaaaa that one hand hi hat thing toward the end was the shiznit
