The thing I liked about Daria was that she was the only student who seemed totally unafraid of Demartino, and they actually kind of understood each other. She was the one student who wasn't bullshitting him or being an idiot, I think.
@whoo689 Agreed! It reminds me of a bit of how she could understand and relate to her dad and his outbursts and awkwardness, too. Like in the paintball episode, him and Mr. DeMartino hit it off so well because of their broken childhoods, military school trauma and not feeling they lived up to what they could have been. Daria seems to best understand and commiserate with that and despite their mania, they were more honest and genuine than the other adults in her life.
