one natural way to get rid of mites is to, one by one, put your plants in the shower and wash them off. it rains outside, shouldn't hurt the plants. and leave a sacrificial plant in the bathroom for the mites to go to.
Indeed lady bugs or other spiders basically "preditors defence" that feed on them. This is good only lady bugs fly into lights and take some time to work over the mites it does not mean all mites are dead.
For this reason I wouls suggest Neem Oil as it remains in the organic realm and 100% effective when applied correctly over a 1 1/2 week period spaced arpart by 3 days with three applications.
@8thstreetnigga yer ladybugs r the best option,but wer can u find them i live in the uk so we dont see much of them,i use a spray called plant vitilaty,works very well but lady bugs would be nice
i've been growing a long time and still haven't had a problem with these little shits.i'm full hydro and in a very tightly enclosed area,but i have several friends that grow out doors or in green houses that have had a lot of trouble over the years with mites. they all use NIX head lice shampoo. they swear by it and i've seen them use it. 1 bottle of shampoo per 4 quarts of distilled water and BOOM! mites go by by.still i hope to stay mite free...knock on wood...lol.
@governmentcheese411 Very Interesting,definitely have to make a note of that one.I make a tea using rhubarb leaves (contains natural poisons),garlic & small amount of hand rolling tobacco.Don't know how or why this works but is seems to kill & keep away any & all pests.Learn this from hemp farmer in Aussie outback.
@Mainlinemonkey i've heard of something similar to that. never seen it used though. i must say that the nix has never been a problem for them and 1 little bottle goes on and on and on and on.... just dilute it a bit and mist onto your crop. without getting to technical, mites share some similarities to body lice on a genetic level, but are much more affected by the meds than actual body lice.
@Mainlinemonkey another great tip for staying mite free.... keep a watermelon rhine down around the base of your plants. it is like crack to them. mites will go for this first instead of your plants and it will act as both an early warning system and a trapping system too. when you notice a few mites on the rhine, just rinse it off in sink and replace near plant base.
What about vapona strips? My understanding is that you hang a vapona strip by you plant, and mites never come in contact with it. I don't know the effect it could have on your plant. Please tell me about vapona strips?
