  • This is hilarious! So glad I found this video. :D

  • hahahah i loved it!

  • creative song... lol :-)

  • Nice hat. :)

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY YOUTUBE :D

Well done mickeleh, youre one of the best contributers to this site!

  • what a shocking AWESOME HAT!! (you know, 2 months ago)

    happy b-day utube (abbrv FTW)

  • I like this one better than the copyrighted birthday song. More creative and funny as ever. Good going Mickeleh!

  • I liked it. :) And yeah, I know I'm 2 months late....

By the way, I don't know if you know this but copyright of the song in the EU expires on December 31 2016. So you can come sing it over here in 6 years time :D

  • Yey! dodging copyright violation using creativity, Nice job Mickeleh.

  • You have an awesome voice!

  • Well that "Lame ass" song was better than an ordinary Happy Birthday one at least!

  • That was cute :) sorry I'm do late on it :)

  • Don't apologize. I love late comments. Go spread the word about this video and see if you can round up some more. ;-)

  • That was rather fantastic, the Happy Birthday thing surprised me the first time I heard you'd have to pay to play/sing it but now I just enjoy the way people adapt to avoid it! :D

  • I always forget that song is copyrighted....which might explain why places like Applebee's have those chants.

I wonder if there have been any cases of YT pulling a video for having that song in it.

I can't believe it's only been 5 years...feels like it has been around longer.

  • Applebee's and several other chains have written their own songs. including (Macaroni Grill, Outback Steakhouse, and Red Lobster) If any restaurant wants to use mine, it's available on a Creative Commons license.

  • Great song Michael. Love it.

  • this song rocked!

i hate that other really famous song! makes me wanna punch babies and kick puppies! and throw lye at people during a storm!

  • Please, don't hold back. How do you REALLY fee.?

  • A great song! And a beautiful hat!

  • Holy Moley, really? ...yes, according to Wikipedia.

  • Lame-ass?? Dude, that rocked :D

I also had no idea it was YouTube's birthday yesterday... I'm a bad YouTuber

  • @songsfrompaul Thank you

  • Awesome... more awesome... more than awesome than being awesome... ughh... i don't know what to say.

  • @JoshUncool as awesome as that, eh? Thanks.

  • i like your tuque!

  • Awesome.

    That was a lovely song.

I didn't know that about the Birthday Song. I learned something new today. That's always good.

  • whenever you say "i'm mickeleh" my day becomes a little brighter.

love the song by the way.

who the f-heck copyrighted the birthday song?

    ridiculous.

  • @ellces You just made my day a little brighter.

  • 2 Million f-birthday dollars is yet another reason why you're one of my favorite vloggers on the interwebs.

  • @bandgeekmike That's f-very nice of you to say. :D

  • =) I love it. We actually talked about the Happy Birthday song in my research class when talking about copyright. Just one of my favorite examples of ridiculousness.

  • @bandgeek8408 My aspiration is that one day I can be one of your favorite examples of ridiculousness, too.

  • Every week you say 'until next time, I'm Mickeleh', and every time a new video comes out, you're still Mickeleh. What's with that? As for the song, it's pretty damn perfect. The jaunty uke tunes take the edge off your razor wit.

  • @hexachordal That's what you think. Here's your fallacy: When I'm not Mickeleh, you have no bloody idea who I am, do you? You just don't recognize me. But I know who you are: you're that guy who overpraises my music. And I love you for it.

  • epiclol... 2 million f-birthday dollars...

    I'm glad your back mickeleh.

  • mickeleh is what terry wogan would sound like if he was from america :)

  • Today, mickeleh is Holden Caulfield! Nice hat.

  • haha, I love it. gonna cover it if i can find time today! (also to learn it 'cause i still suck at uke)

  • Cool. I just added chords and lyrics to the doobily-doo. I'd love to hear your version.

  • So that's why they always cut out the part when they actually sing happy birthday in movies? Or just sing "for he's a jolly good fellow". I preferred your alternative ;)

  • Yep. According to Wikipedia, there's a documentary about Dr. Martin Luthor King Jr. that includes a scene of people singing "Happy Birthday" to him. "After its initial release, the film was unavailable for sale or broadcast for many years because of the cost of clearing many copyrights, of which "Happy Birthday to You" was one."

  • lol i heard that if you sing happy birthday on TV it costs 50000£ cos of the writers

  • That's about the range of what I've heard too. But it's not because of the writers. They're long gone. It's because of the publishers (A division of Warner Brothers) and the extension of copyright law.

  • That's pretty crazy.

  • Great song!! ^_^ Had no idea that the other song was copyrighter :O

    Favourited!

  • haha... happy birthday, youtube!

i also love your song, mickeleh, and prefer it to that other one that's raking in all the dough. maybe we can make this one into a standard birthday tune.

  • 5 years huh. Well, Happy Birthday YouTube!

Can we lose the ads on the videos now?=)

    Nice tune btw!

  • This is a much better birthday song than the traiditional one. I think I'm going to get everyone to sing this one to me this year. After I've given the correct notice to avoid copyright infringement, of course. :)

  • Hey! I'm glad you're making videos again! Hearing you sing is fantastic :)

    Happy birthday, YouTube!!!

  • Is it really copyrighted? That's horrible.

This song, however, is way better. Good for youtube! I can't believe I've been on this site for nearly five years (under various names).

  • that was awesome!

  • I liked the little jingle.

    -Julian

  • Wow! I didn't realize the birthday song is under copyright. That seems ridiculous. Do you know who is collecting on that?

Anyhow, I like your made up song.

  • I like the hat. Reminds me of Holden's.

  • y'know... I wasn't thinking that consciously. But somewhere it must have been working on me. Wow. Thanks for the insight.

  • its a better birthday song, I think.

everythings better with a ukulele. well, maybe not everything...

  • Things go better with ukulele. Things go better with uke. (Y'thnk Coke would lend me the melody from their old jingle? Or would I need to pay a royalty?)

  • Awesome, Mike!

Shouldn't the birthday song be in the public domain by now?

  • Depends what you mean by "shouldn't." It's a complicated story. Good summary in wikipedia under "Happy Birthday to You"

  • I had assumed it was in the public domain 50 years ago. Shows how little I know.

  • nice hat

  • happy birthday to youtube!

  • Haha, what's with the hat? I LIKE it, though. You're so creative. :)

Btw, I've never told you, but I've found your look-a-like. The first time I saw one of your videos, I thought, "Jeez, this guy looks just like my chiropractor!" And you do. It's an eerily accurate comparison. x)

  • Any chance he'll offer me a "look-alike discount"?

  • That would be very likely, since you're the only person he could offer it to, hence it wouldn't cost him a whole lot. x)

  • @chasuca89 Goes with the hat.

  • Bwahaaha. It does indeed. :)

  • The hat? It goes with the shirt. Go ahead, ask "What's with the shirt?"

  • MICKELEH, What's with the shirt?!

  • First!
