I liked it. :) And yeah, I know I'm 2 months late....
By the way, I don't know if you know this but copyright of the song in the EU expires on December 31 2016. So you can come sing it over here in 6 years time :D
That was rather fantastic, the Happy Birthday thing surprised me the first time I heard you'd have to pay to play/sing it but now I just enjoy the way people adapt to avoid it! :D
Applebee's and several other chains have written their own songs. including (Macaroni Grill, Outback Steakhouse, and Red Lobster) If any restaurant wants to use mine, it's available on a Creative Commons license.
=) I love it. We actually talked about the Happy Birthday song in my research class when talking about copyright. Just one of my favorite examples of ridiculousness.
Every week you say 'until next time, I'm Mickeleh', and every time a new video comes out, you're still Mickeleh. What's with that? As for the song, it's pretty damn perfect. The jaunty uke tunes take the edge off your razor wit.
@hexachordal That's what you think. Here's your fallacy: When I'm not Mickeleh, you have no bloody idea who I am, do you? You just don't recognize me. But I know who you are: you're that guy who overpraises my music. And I love you for it.
So that's why they always cut out the part when they actually sing happy birthday in movies? Or just sing "for he's a jolly good fellow". I preferred your alternative ;)
Yep. According to Wikipedia, there's a documentary about Dr. Martin Luthor King Jr. that includes a scene of people singing "Happy Birthday" to him. "After its initial release, the film was unavailable for sale or broadcast for many years because of the cost of clearing many copyrights, of which "Happy Birthday to You" was one."
That's about the range of what I've heard too. But it's not because of the writers. They're long gone. It's because of the publishers (A division of Warner Brothers) and the extension of copyright law.
i also love your song, mickeleh, and prefer it to that other one that's raking in all the dough. maybe we can make this one into a standard birthday tune.
This is a much better birthday song than the traiditional one. I think I'm going to get everyone to sing this one to me this year. After I've given the correct notice to avoid copyright infringement, of course. :)
Things go better with ukulele. Things go better with uke. (Y'thnk Coke would lend me the melody from their old jingle? Or would I need to pay a royalty?)
Haha, what's with the hat? I LIKE it, though. You're so creative. :)
Btw, I've never told you, but I've found your look-a-like. The first time I saw one of your videos, I thought, "Jeez, this guy looks just like my chiropractor!" And you do. It's an eerily accurate comparison. x)
This is hilarious! So glad I found this video. :D

I always forget that song is copyrighted....which might explain why places like Applebee's have those chants.
I wonder if there have been any cases of YT pulling a video for having that song in it.
I can't believe it's only been 5 years...feels like it has been around longer.

Depends what you mean by "shouldn't." It's a complicated story. Good summary in wikipedia under "Happy Birthday to You"
