    FROM BRASIL!

  • nice one brett

  • Wow!!! Awesome

  • the host at the beginning sounds like richard kristy's ethal character from howard stern

  • i just came

  • Oh my god, my dad looks like so young and like a dork.

  • @thefridagee

    Huh?

  • Kind of doing a germs thing ..

  • Gregg sure acted stupid for such a smart guy

  • Graffin reminds me of Rotten

  • @ChaosDragon018 Rotten (butter) sucks Graffin rules.

  • @mpkpkm Haha the butter commercial. But i still like rotten. Anyway i was just pointing out that the way he moves the mike reminds me how rotten used to.

  • HAHAHA, listen from 6:11 to 6:26 !!!

    ''YEah, look at you !''

  • damn, Greg was only 16 an getting on TV.

    what the fuck haveYOU done?

  • Brett to the rescue

  • they forgot which song to play after Bad Religion XD

    they're awesome :D

  • its crazy how his voice indeed became mature? and sounds good! this is great early stuff..........................

  • They're like a worse GBH but a better Germs here haha!

  • Young Mr. Brett did an awesome job explaining what the band was all about to that jackoff interviewer.

  • this is before Greg could sing!

  • this is the earliest footage I've ever seen of BR... ty!

  • wow. awesome!

  • This reminds me of the Sex Pistols haha

  • @GetOutAliveMovie musically they didn't...the reason people love punk is because of the fast, loud energy it gives, please excuse my shitty grammar was wresting earlier and got put in a choke hold

  • @GetOutAliveMovie punk bands didn't have the talent back then either...

  • @pbrskater26 I think the following bands covered such matters as well,

The Detours-Adolescents, tsol, china white, middle class, the crowd, Simpletones, the outsiders, black flag, the vandals, D.I., circle jerks, etc etc

Not as much as b.r. I definitely felt like b.r. became stale but just doing similar themes and there sound was definitely not as original

I definitely think greg heston didn't improve much after the jerks.

  • The showman or whatever he is, where the hell did he find his skirt??

  • bad religion are incredibly overrated. it's quite sad but the best bands never make it big.

  • @TheNewMusicNetwork

I love the intellectul messige they give! They are the only band that incorperates evolutinary and humanistic thought into there songs!

  • this is 81 or 82 not 80.

  • Holy crap. Jay Bentley looks so young. I barely recognized him.

  • HAHAH the lead singer was probably laughing at that dude

  • He (Greg Graffin) said recently in an interview that he can't comment on today's "punk scene" as he has removed himself from it over the years to focus on writing lyrics and songs that are relevant to today's problems in our society and throughout the world. That's how fucking punk rock started, so this band is still innovating the genre. Good onya mates.

  • wow, they've really come a long way

  • This is the year born and 14 yrs later I found these guys Been a fan ever since crazy .Love it!

  • High speed tough guys. Fucking rofl.

  • He's fucking young!! He hasn't even hit puberty yet xD

  • 15 and 16 year old kids these days don't have the BALLS to start a band and make music like this......

  • @Serpo71 That's bullshit, there are plenty everywhere, in every country, just get away from your computer screen and go and find them.

  • @MrGorgak its not the same now, dude....

  • @Serpo71 It depends. I play in a small punk rock band and sometimes it is still like that. When I see videos like this some memories of some of our gigs (or other bands' gigs) come back as well and I notice they're sort of similar, and it feels great.

    Really great times man.

  • @Serpo71 so true.

  • @Serpo71 exactly dude i wanna go out and rule the clubs like so many bands in the 70s and 80s everyones either into pop shit or screamo or stoner rock its sickening

  • @frankenstrat25 I wish you and others would create a new scene, dude. And not this commercial crap that passes for punk or hardcore these days. Raw rock n roll, that's where it's at......

    SERPO

  • @Serpo71 people are like it needs to sound perfect. its ok to sound raw listen to this its not the greatest thing ever and thats for sure. but its so raw i love it. and you like hardcore too? sick of it all all the way man agnostic front. you like social distortion? i love them theyre always my chill music especially gimme the sweet and lowdown off their new album hard times and nursery rhymes

  • @Serpo71 I do but I cant find anyone else who wants to.

  • @MeepMan95 Do it man, we need something new in music! You kids need to start a revolt.......

  • @MeepMan95 same with me

  • @Serpo71 I would have the balls to start a band like Bad Religion... but no 15 year old kids listen to this stuff anymore. They all listen to stupid techno shit now :(

  • @SplinterCellXbox I'm 15 and I love these guys and am in a band

  • @SplinterCellXbox lol more likely dubstep, and techno is pretty underground many hardcore anarchists are known to be techno D.J.s

  • @Serpo71 True. All the new bands coming out are pussy emos and a mix of rap/rock/pop. Its stupid really. This is real music not whats on the radio.

  • @Serpo71 I do

  • @punkrocker555142 Then do it......

  • @Serpo71 what do you think im doing this thing takes years

  • @punkrocker555142 Keep kicking it in the ass, dude..... You kids.....START A FUCKING REVOLUTION!!!

  • @Serpo71 I am, but I said i was doing something like this i meant im gonna play something with real music and not sell out, not Punk. Although it is a big influence

  • @punkrocker555142 Play what you like, don't think about the genre or selling out or anything. People are focused too much on everything else but the music. Fuck em all.

  • @JenjuroX exactly there no soul by labeling yourself like that.

  • @Serpo71 Actually there are a lot of kids doing this out there, the world is different, the populous doesn't want to hear this.

  • @JenjuroX they didnt want to hear it back in the 80's either. You could get your ass severely kicked back then if you even remotely looked punk....

  • @Serpo71 That's life, you could get your ass severely kicked at any time for being someone who wasn't everyone else.

  • @JenjuroX You're right, the world is different now. It sucks ass now.... The 80's were a much better time than today....

  • @Serpo71 You're wrong. They're out there. Consider that the reason you don't hear about them is because they make music like this, and don't pine for labels or corporate tours.

  • @DorakoftheHillPeople And that's a good thing, piss on those radio rock playlists and those old fuckers at the record labels selecting the shitty bands on those playlists. Im glad it's out there, I just wish the shit would blowup again like it did back in the 80's. There's got to be something fresh and creative out there musically....

  • @DorakoftheHillPeople yea you wont catch these guys sellin out like Metalica like when they made that stupid ass album with the orchestra and the 3 piece suits!! hahaha

  • @Serpo71 I'm 15 and I would be so stoked if I had the talent to start a band anything like Bad Religion. But nobody else in my town is a punker except for my dad.

  • @5WaysTilSaturday Where do you live?

  • :-)

  • Sid Vicious much?

  • @shadupp hahaha I was thinking the same thing

  • Great quality

  • how Greg went from this to a well respected college prof is amazing it shows how application of education can allow you to remain true to what you see here but also open you to so much more.

  • @daveh182 He's smarter as a punk frontman...

  • He's as bald as Bruce Willis now.

  • @SuperJojokelly maybe cause he is a kid here

  • lol greg gaffin demeanor reminds me of johnny rotten in this vid

  • that guy at the start is abit like that creepy guy from ghostbusters 2 that flys in the window and takes the baby

  • "Bad Religion!"

    "What?"

    I laughed.

  • Graffin: Stop being a dick!

  • goddamn. They are all so young. Jay looks completely different

  • At this time how could people guess Greg has an angelike voice?

  • how creepy is that guy at the start?

  • Yea, we found out... x(

  • i was -3 years old :)

  • @posthc And ?

  • Dude I think justien beiber should take notes from this performence!!

  • @pbrskater26 Who the hell is Jason Beiber?

  • haha :)

  • one of the best punk performances ive ever seen

  • gurewitz's nose is huge. not as big as his atm receipts.

  • is it just me or did tv hosts used to be even bigger douche bags than they are today?

  • black flag kicks ass too

  • i kinda like gregs voice here it really punk altough i think he ws best 1988-1994

  • @markmaille never a truer word said

  • @1RedshirtXLG

    oh i love it

  • wow where did u get this great damn just kids!!!

  • Greg's singing voice has gotten a lot better over the years...he sounds pretty awful here lol. The lyrics have always been genius though.

  • Jay is a lot more chill back in the day.

  • wow this is great

  • they had another appearance on NWT where Greg plinked a little piano on 'We're Only Gona Die'. this is wicked cool. thanks for posting.

  • greg seems a little nervous...

  • el locutor tiene un estilazo q no veas.Q GRANDES BAD RELIGION AUN SIENDO NIÑOS,ESTO ES UNA JOYA

  • 5:27 - "Explain what bad religion is"

  • I hate the announcer!

  • Am I the only one who finds the announcer to be a little creepy?

  • @wynternight777

He's so creepy but so punk.

  • Man when i was young i never believed in that anarchist bullshit. But i loved to go to the gigs and slam in the pit.

I don't think now that the Bad Religion boys believe in this bullshit anymore. When you get older you get wiser.

  • I really want to suck 16-year-old Graffin's dick

  • Ahahaha, great !

  • i think greg was 16 when this was filmed

  • LMAO at 4:50-4:58

  • damn, his voice is really raw, im 15 and my voicesounds NOTHING like that... i dont really like that my vioe is so deep, kinda weird and annoying. :P

  • Greg was a damn cutie when he was younger! :P

  • @evilskully I think he looks better now that he's in his 40s.

  • Wow i wouldnt have thought gregs singing voice would eventually be really good

  • I'm impressed a 15 year old even knows what oligarchy means.

  • any organized system of thoughts is a bad religion

any government is a bad religion

any predetermined idea of how to act is a bad religion

  • Cliff Burton's puke has more punk rock in it than this badly played Religion. Don't get me wrong I own every BR album but it doesn't hold a stick to Kill ' em' all which was out and melting peoples minds at the same time this was conjured up.

  • @ludeboy26 yeah this is shit, thats why i love it

  • @yescharliesurfs and cliff burton is dead

  • I have been looking for the full version of this for some time. Thank you for uploading it. This was shot out at USC back in November of 80', and I think it was their attempt to get into the original Decline Of Western Civilization documentary.

  • real punk rock.....they still kick ass.

  • hahaha greg just writes the words :D

  • very interesting

  • Greg looks a little like Sid vicious

  • this is the shit!

  • were all slaves!!!! shut the fuck up and listen to the music....stop annylizing everything!!!!

  • That's some get up that the interviewer has on haha

  • your a re tard, since when does making a bit of coin constitute as selling out? what about the lable they started and the bands they helped get started, not to mention the all ages shows. your so punk you hate punk, run out of agnst already you uppity elitist fuck. oh yeah, im gonna straight bash the shit outa you. maha

  • @hornado Wow. Against my better judgement, I'm dignifying your idiotic comment with a response. Again, BR, NOFX, etc. "making coin" does not consittute selling out. But making a lot of money without giving back to the counterculture is, in my humble opinion, offensive behavior to the punk rock community. Jello Biafra certainly makes money off of his spoken word performances, but he invests some of it in benefit concerts and community activist organizations. There is a difference, folks. Jesus.

  • Anti-Flag, Against Me!, Bad Religion, NOFX, Rancid. . .sigh. . .I suppose Steve Ignorant from Crass was right: "Punk became a movement 'cause we all felt lost. But the leaders sold out and now we all pay the cost."

  • i ran out of room int he last comment. how has nofx sold out at all, they have been basically completely diy the whole way, they were on epitaph a while but for the most part have had their own label released their own stuff never had bosses always based it off fun and what they wanted to happen, if thats sellin out to you just because they got popular enough not giving a fuck that they still make a good amount of money, then i dont even know how to argue with you

  • @BreakYourChains PLEASE do me a favor and listen to "punk rock rulebook" from 88 fingers louie and open your mind, tool. I can only assume you're not going to so I quote-

Don't talk to me about selling out cause I won't be listening

You're just another jaded kid who doesn't see

I'm making money that's quickly spent

I've got a family you ain't gotta worry 'bout the rent

Is it too much to ask do me a favor close that punk rock rulebook

Cause times have changed and so have I, I need to get by

  • @prshortpants Duly noted. But I was not suggesting Bad Religion sold out simply because they are making money. They sold out because they, like Anti-Flag, Stiff Little Fingers, Rancid, and so many other punk bands, are more interested in money than the actual ethos behind the music. You can sing about being against evil multinationals all you want, but if you don't give back anything to the community, then you are merely an armchair activist. It's like DOA says: "Talk-Action=0."

  • @BreakYourChains How do you know what they give back?

  • @BreakYourChains well what ur defining as action is them giving money towards causes. they could easily be doing more action by spreading information. as far as why they dont give money, its probably because we live in a world of artificial scarcity: there is enough to around, but wealth is consolidated in hands of the international bankers and the committee of 300.

  • @AtheistAnarchoRudi

therefore it is not bad religion's responsibility to save the world by donating money, since the only way the world is going to be saved is by taking the backstage government out of office. they probably just do not want to become wage slaves themselves and therefore want to keep some bank so they can live without worrying. isnt the goal of anarchism to live a life without the external worries that money brings?

  • I find it quite interesting that few people realize this is how Bad Relgion originally sounded. Although I'm only in my early 20s, I started listening to Bad Religion at 14, and I loved all of their stuff off of their s/t and their How Could Hell be Any Worse? album. It seems like over the last decade, however, Bad Religion have become corporate shills, singing about the same topical issues, but not really believing them. They laugh all the way to the bank, folks.

  • maybe he has just understand than punks are stupid (not always but a lot of them are just kids) and don't have credibility...

  • Comment removed

  • I'm a massive fan of BR, but its quite weird to see them as 16yr old little snotty punx :P Greg comes off as a bit of a prick, and Brett talks like a bit of a pretentious teenager. The interviewer must have been thinking something along the lines of 'little assholes' :P

Once again, I'm a HUGE BR fan, and Im also sure that if any of the band were to comment on this vid today, it would be something similar to what ive just said xD

  • @MrSquare Right on dude. Im sure when everyone looks back at what they were doign at 16 they often cringe with embarassment. Except me ofc!! :D

  • hehe greg with his adolescent creaky voice

  • Wow, went from being anarchists (No Government) to being very liberal (Unlimited Government). That's quite a turnaround.

Cool video. Funny to see them play when they were so young.

  • They sure did have Intelligent, Philsophical lyrics for being in their mid teens. I wish my peers thought like this (im 14)

  • @fireblast111 i know excactly what you mean. when i was fourteen everyone was freaking stupid. i was in my own mature world out there...

  • @fireblast111

The punks that I knew were some of the smartest kids. In fact, one guy who was kicked out class for his mohawk received his PHD from CAL.

  • @eatandtravel

I know man. And people always are like "Your just some stupid punk"

    Punks are geniuses

  • @fireblast111 People should know that real punk songs have meaning to them. You have to really think when you listen to Bad Religion songs. As you can see I like Blink 182 and Green Day, but I also like the old school stuff like this, the Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols, Black Flag, Descedents, Ramones, etc...

  • @blinkgreen129

please never include blink 182 and green day with true punk. You sound very young and naive. Poseur much?

  • @blinkgreen129 Thanks for clarifying the rules of pun, Blink182 fan. Yeah, the Ramones had lyrics that REALLY meant something..."I Don't Wanna Go Down to the Basement", "Carbona Not Glue", "Suzy is a Headbanger", etc.
