  • Tried it, doesn't work at all.

  • thank you so much ive been wondering for ages to how to get rid of it, And know I know the solution.. Suscribed :)

  • Could use a blur after that to remove any pixelization.

  • You fucking moron. Thanks for you crap filter.

  • I love the banding on images... am i the only one?/ lOl

  • I would rather use 'dither' in the gradient tool options

  • @IceflowStudios nice, but doesn't the Dither-option do a similar result for gradients you're creating?

  • In what situation you get banding! I make new photoshop file with dimensions - W: 105mm, H: 148mm, Res: 300 px / inch. Filled layer with radial gradient and no banding!???

  • what about blur effekt ?

  • Thanks my love <3

  • I found that using a smart blur is much more effective and you wont see any splatters.

  • Gradient Banding is a result of color profiles.

  • gj. ty.

  • What about using Gaussian Blur, just a bit?

  • @shornipp999 It makes it even more worse.

  • @wwild2k No, I have done it, and i got all most the same result.

    - Maybe it depends on the color you use...

  • @shornipp999 Maybe, yes :-)

  • This filter doesn't work in 16bit. I'm using CS5.

  • I have a question. My Images were looking nice on photoshop And I Did something on the settings. And now, My images looks distorted =[

    Please Help.

  • @tasigogue try CTRL + Alt (i dont know what about mac)

  • More often than not, gradient banding can be attributed to the monitor, NOT the actual image. Cheaper monitors don't have the display capabilities of the more expensive types. For example, an image displayed on a cheap TN-panel monitor may show banding, whereas the same image displayed on a more expensive IPS-panel monitor will not. In fact, gradient banding is one of the tools used for gamma calibration.

  • Ah, thank you! I've always hated the banding. Especially when I can't see it on my own computer, but I can on someone else's.

When exporting an image with gradient, which extension do you recommend? I usually use png, but I find gradients to show up not as good. I'm not a huge fan of jpeg, but would it work better?

  • Nice videos dude!

im having some problems creating a good looking vignette, any chance you could do a quick tut on that?

    Cheers ..//D

  • I found that adding some noise helps as well

  • @TutorVidCom That, or dithering the gradient, if it's a layer style.

  • Yes! Ty

  • You can also increase byte size in your document setup, like to 64bit colour, just larger files, more proccessing needed.

  • what is the other method?

  • What about the Noise-Filter?

  • Could you answer something that I don't think really deserves a whole video? I need to make a grid overlay with a custom grid size. Specifically I need a 32x32 grid on a 512x512 image. I just don't know where the grid options are besides the stuff under View>Show>

  • Just saw this online a couple days ago. It's awesome!

  • Did you guys actually clicked in 720p HD? ;D

  • can you make a video about illustrator tips and tricks

  • Hey IceFlow what programs do you use to make your YouTube video. From recording to ediditng and compressing. Please i want to learn how to make good videos jsut in case if i am going to

  • to remove banding I used to use "add noise"

  • I trust you :D

    Thanks :)

  • Yeah I asked this, I tried this and it works pretty well!

  • Can you pleease do a video on how to organize all your photoshop brushes!? Im having trouble keeping track of them all, knowing which ones are which..thanks!

  • Very nice!!!!

  • how big is your monitor and how high is the screen resoultion?

  • @minidevelop It looks like a 2560 x 1600 (or 1440). Maybe he has a new 27" iMac or 27" Cinema Display? I miss the 30" Cinema Display! I want those extra pixels!

  • @TalesOfWar Yeah, it's the 27" iMac. I had to record this one at full resolution to be able to limit post production banding. :)

  • CS 5 -> Gradient -> and check the Dither option ... or put a monochromatic noise on the chanel where the bending is strongest visible also one of the ways to get rid of banding. well, Dithering is teh answer

  • I can totally see the difference in 720p - Great Video!

  • your awesome :)

  • Wow. You're really off base on this one.

Banding is the relationship between resolution of the output device and the number of discreet tonal values in the gradient. There is a direct relationship between the halftone screen value and how many steps it can reproduce. What you see on monitor has nothing to do with banding -- unless you're producing for computer display and setting your resolution to match the target.

  • bu how do i creat bnding? in some designs it's really usefull

  • put links to before and after .JPGs in the Description.

  • Why do you get banding anyway? On one of my displays, I get banding and on the other I dont with the same image!!!

  • I've been having banding on my desktop but in I don't get banding in Photoshop...I can't figure out what the hell is wrong >.<

  • There is a lot better/smoother way to do this. Here:

    Change the bits Image>Mode>16 bits/channel

Blur the gradient Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur (about 10px)

Create a new layer and paint it gray, put noise on it Filter>Noise>Add Noise

Do the noise several times on the gray layer with low settings and change the modes to get a more noisier noise. Then put the gray/noise layer blending mode to soft light and change the opacity to about 5-15 %. Now save whatever (even 8bit) format and it's smooth.

  • You are a genius. How do you know all this wonderful stuff!?

  • @PhotoshopIKnowIt he says learns it all by his own... but i dont beleive it, he must have some sources of information. it makes me wonder how exactly did he get intrigued into photoshop and all that stuff.

  • @gurenig if you play around enough, you'll find these things out yourself, even I can play around enough to find something that works like that.

  • @krypet007 i always play around with the filters and layer styles and what not.... thats how people learn, right? like babies who are super currious about everything, thats how they learn.

  • before=after in video :s but thanks.

  • YOUR AWESOME!!! :D

  • I was going to try this in GIMP to see if a Noise filter would work too, but I couldn't even get a banded gradient. Until I noticed that "Dithering" was checked in the Gradient dialog. doh! It creates the gradient with some noise so there wasn't any banding to start with!

  • Doesn't work with layerstyles involved?

  • @DtoxN You can Convert for Smart Filters, or separate the Layer Styles from the layer. (Layer > Layer Style > Create Layer).

  • Thanks it helped alot :D i allways gets so angry when i get thos fucking things so i have begun using 16 bit... -.-

  • I LOVE YOU XD

  • you can do the gradient and then go to Filter>noise >add noise

then make the amount 1 or 2 :)

  • Thank you

  • Hi TutCast do you think you could do a tutorial on masking and linking layers? Thanks

  • At 720p in full screen it's visible =D

  • @TodizzleMONKEY on my imac 27in. :p

  • @luckyspin956 only 27in i got a 30in for MAH PC :D

  • nice

  • nice

  • Ho TutCast do you think you could do a tutorial on masking and linking layers? Thanks

  • FIRST WHO SAYS FIRST

  • Your video's are always very helpful! Thank you very much!

  • very helpful thanks a lot !

  • 1,897th!!

  • Just blur it with gaussian blur and there you go. No need for brushes or smth.

  • @846524162 Blurs don't work with gradient banding like this.

  • @IceflowStudios Ok, I meant even faster way to make it or maybe with smudge tool. Although your way is also fast.

  • @IceflowStudios just tried it out, they actually work just as well as this. When blurring, it may still leave in some new bandings, though noticeably smaller and less visible. When using this technique, your gradient looks like it's been overcompressed in a bad file format. In both cases, if zoomed out, you won't see the banding any more.

  • @IceflowStudios Oh burn! Ouch!

  • @IceflowStudios why wouldnt a blur work for this?

  • Nice tut :D helpful as always!

  • handy :)
