  • So what times are the Tyfons sounded? I'd like to know that in case I ever pay the old girl a visit some day. I hear tell they used to have longer notes sounded on them, but it's all short blasts now.

  • I always thought the Queen Mary had a steam horn i guess not

  • @Rocky54167 They are steam horns, technically Tyfon steam sirens. Due to the fact the boilers were removed when she was converted into a floating hotel/restaurant/museum, there's no steam source left, hence why they use air now

  • @Shipwright1918 Thanks for the info! Please keep sharing what you know - these horns deserve to be talked about.

  • @Shipwright1918 i knew about the boilers but not about the horns thank you very much

  • did queen mary sink? or is it still afloat today?

  • @legoman8271 She's still very much afloat and is currently a hotel on Long Beach, CA.

  • That is the Kockums 575 ship horn for you :)

  • R.I.P headphone wearers

  • Ouch

  • That wouldve scared the living crap out of me.

  • @Bannanasbreakdance It certainly did that to us! Notice the hand-shake.

  • @Rapidnadion 0.o whoa.......

  • how often do they sound that horn? i stay on campus at CSULB and I sometimes hear a loud horn... I'm wondering if it's coming from the Queen Mary? I hear it now. 12/29 @8pm

  • @purtygurl92 Pretty sure it's every day.

  • dude im like tired as heck and that made me jump thanks a lot

  • I like this, My grandad worked on the queen mary, the storys he tell's :-)

  • hey i challenge you to make a sinking model of the britannic

  • Too bad they didn't let you stick some cameras to it and sink it.

  • @Zebonka If only we could give this more than one thumbs-up.

  • I was on the Oosterdam on an Alaska cruise. One morning like 7 am I was out on the deck and we were coming into a big fog bank and they were blowing those fog horns every 30 seconds or so. it was L.O.U.D.

  • Good lord. I was at the Queen Mary once and when it sounded I dropped my camera in the water. Had to ask the dock manager if I could dive and get it. :P Amazingly, it still worked, probably cause it had a waterproof cover on it xD

  • One day i will make it over there! Thanks for the amazing video rapidnadion :D

  • @toacamater We highly recommend it! You're welcome!

  • Good video! I wish I lived anywhere near the Queen Mary. I'm in NY across the country from it. :(

  • @britannic192 So were we- it only took a 4,000-mile drive! Surely you can do it. :)

  • Isnt that ship haunted???

  • @spongegob28 So say the rumors. But one of us wandered the QM's decks and closed public rooms for several hours late one night and saw nothing but a few raccoons.

  • @Rapidnadion There are Raccoons on the Queen Mary

  • @MasterVideoStudios On the promenade and boat decks (topside), we saw one. We didn't mean to suggest they were belowdecks, or that there was an infestation.

  • @spongegob28 Yes it is.

  • somebody cut the cheese

  • pmsl at your reaction!! but shit, that almost blew me off my chair!

  • The way the camera shakes has me doubled over laughing...that thing must have been REALLY obnoxious.

  • @ThePhantomFanatic It's amazing. We were so ready for it, and I *still* couldn't keep my hands from shaking when it went off. Fully involuntary; that's how much power the sound carried. One can only imagine what it would have sounded like with steam, and with both horns firing!
