I wish Gervais would stop doing that awful rolling of the eyes skyward (in a lame attempt to look like Oliver Hardy). It's just terrible and makes me cringe every time I see it.
@Oh4Chrissake hahaha u sound sooo dumb, do u really think he's 'Attempting' to look like oliver hardy.. u may be the 'Only' person to 1 think that and 2 cringe over it haa
@carmichaeltrance It is true that I may be the only person to find it cringe-worthy (I doubt it, but I have no evidence to the contrary), but there is definitely at least one other person who thinks he's attempting to look like Oliver Hardy - that person is Ricky Gervais. I can recall him mentioning his eye rolling in connection with Oliver Hardy in several interviews. If you don't believe me, see his interview with Opie and Anthony.
Not his best, but still funny. My guess was that it was highly censored by the network. If he had done a top ten of the same category and done it during one of his stand-up shows, I bet it would have been a lot more controversial, but funnier.
Did he only do a top 10? Or was he a guest also? Judging by the plug that Dave gives Ricky's HBO special at the end, I'm guessing he didn't come out later for an interview.
It's funny you say that, cause I jut saw a few episodes of the UK version, and I couldn't stand to watch it, I completely didn't see the humor in it. I guess it's a cultural thing
It's not a 'version' of anything, it's the original. The humour is in the fact that David Brent trys to be politicallly correct and wants everyone to like him, but he constantly gets himself in uncomfortable situations. The us of a version of the Office is naturally a lot more obvious. It's the same for all of our programmes that they copy, they have to make them a lot more simple for their audiences.
I do appreciate British humor, and its dryness. Problem I found with the show (UK)is that; 1. The cast is not pleasant to look at, starting with Ricky Gervais' vampire like teeth. That blond skinny dude is also pretty annoying to look at. 2. I couldn't understad what they were saying. (of course that has to do with me not being used to the accent.)
The cast aren't meant to be good to look at. It's meant to be realistic. It's in the 'fly on the wall documentary' format. A 'mockumentary' if you will. Ricky Gervais always takes the piss out of his own teeth. If somebodys pointy teeth ruin a programme for you I don't know what to say! Judging by the fact that you're writing in English I fail to understand how you couldn't understand English being spoken in England.

He was saying he couldn't understand the accent. I'm sure there are people who speak english who you can't understand. Also i don't know where in America that guy is from but most Americans speak english the way it is suppose to be pronounced. Father is not pronounced Fahhhther. I'm not saying you specifically say it that way, but some do.Oh and some words in America means different in england and vice versa. for example on the back of a pencil is an eraser, but for england its a rubber
i can't even watch the american version because it's painfully obvious, unfunny and grotesque. the difference is partially cultural, but tons of americans recognize that the humour in the uk version is more sophisticated. there are few things funnier than the original david brent
It isn't a culteral thing mate. Its humour based around the absurdities of societal norms. I guess the networks executives were right. Americans are too stupid for The Office.
(This is more fun than working) *Sigh* It wasn't canceled. Gervais felt the show had run its course (you could learn from that in America by Scrubs series 765) and moved onto the equally innovative Extras, which he also chose to conclude after two series. Basically many British programmes choose quality over quantity. (Fawlty Towers, Brass Eye, The Office). And by the way the aburdities of societal norms are the norms, thats why they are called norms. Consider your sentences.

How come the Office UK was canceled after two seasons? Did the Absurdities of the societal norms become the norm?
