You started the Winter War which caused the Continuation War. Soviet Union made a big war crime by starting the Winter War. Like finnish Foreign Minister Halsti visited in Moscow at 1937. @Plihtari The Soviet union wasn't a big power before the 2nd world war, that doesn't mean those finish guys weren't heroes, but the Soviet Union became strong due to many manpower and time to build tanks and study advanced technology. Simply the number of men did make them win the war and it's nice to see how a small army of Finland resisted their war against the Soviet

Let's see; 22nd June, germany starts Barbarossa, and Soviet airforce starts bombing Finnish Navy, base in Hanko starts shelling of civilian targets, for next 5 days Soviet airforce bombs Finnish cities, and finally 29th Finnish army crosses the border, after a week of hostility from Soviet side, what happened in Lapland doesn't give a right to attack civilians hundreds of kilometers from said area.

In march of 1940 finns beg Stalin for peace act, which result lost of 10% of their territory (Karjala).
In 1941 finns together with germans take over soviet union and keep Leningrade blocked. In 1944 after germans fucked up, finns decided to capitualte, like real cowards ! So Russia took Karjala and other finnish lands back, and no way we gonna give it back any soon !

fyi, after the october revolution, my country, Russia, had a civil war, Reds vs. Whites (commuunists and Democrats). during this conflict Finnland invaded and took part of Karelia. o, and the Finns made a big fuss about Karelia, and when we were willing to make a deal, they said, basically, got to hek.
we did NOT invade russia at that time, and we had a civil war like that as well. the "deal" you're mentioning. that's the same one given to the baltic countries and you know very well what happened to them right?

finland didn't fight for germany's cause. we fought for our own survival with the aid of the germans. either we could accept help from germany or russia conquer and seize our country as a whole. russia forced us into the war with the ribbentrop-molotov pact where it was included that russia would receive finland. russia then staged a shelling at mainila to break a non-aggression pact with finland and invaded us.

the winter war and continuation war adds up to (wikipedia numbers) 327,000 dead and 650,000 wounded for russia, plus 190,000 hospitalized and 65,000 captured. those are huge amounts and of course a sacrifice for your country. however they add up to about 1% of your total population at that time.
comparing that to finland, with 89,000 dead and 200,000 wounded in the 2 wars. adding up to roughly 290,000 in a country with somewhere around 3,5mil people at that time. that's just over 8%. nearly 1/10, and that's the ENTIRE population. that's why finns have such strong feelings about this war. everybody know someone who got killed or wounded in the war, not just a few.

However the halt was political move-Stalin wanted the 60,000 Polish freedom fighters in the city to be crushed by the Germans to facilitate creation of a Communist government when the war was over. What really matters is Finland's neutrality BEFORE 30.11.1939. On the day Russians crossed the border, and among other things tossed hand grenades on sleeping women and children.
Had I been alive and kicking at the time, my neutrality would've disappeared that day.
Also, loss of land and exile of 1/2 million people makes a heart pretty much OPPOSED to ENEMY.

It was very awkward situation at that time, because Finland hadn' t done any pact with the Germans nor even agreed to participation in war, only if the soviet union will attack first (as they did 25 June,41). we just asked them to defend Finland, not more. and the allies were never prepared to help us, so we turned to Germans help.

In your logic, why didn't you bomb Sweden? German made guns from their metal which killed soviet soldiers and also mad ball bearing for tanks etc.. They were also neutral. You started the Winter War which caused the Continuation War. Soviet Union made a big war crime by starting the Winter War. Like finnish Foreign Minister Halsti visited in Moscow at 1937. Litvinov and Stalin were very hostile as we know that Stalin was planning to invade Finland pretty much whole -30's. Molotov and Vorosilov were behaving. Halsti also told that Finland will protect it's country against every countries. Halsti also tried to explain that Finland won't ever be a threat.

@Plihtari The Soviet union wasn't a big power before the 2nd world war, that doesn't mean those finish guys weren't heroes, but the Soviet Union became strong due to many manpower and time to build tanks and study advanced technology. Simply the number of men did make them win the war and it's nice to see how a small army of Finland resisted their war against the Soviet

In march of 1940 finns beg Stalin for peace act, which result lost of 10% of their territory (Karjala).
In 1941 finns together with germans take over soviet union and keep Leningrade blocked. In 1944 after germans fucked up, finns decided to capitualte, like real cowards ! So Russia took Karjala and other finnish lands back, and no way we gonna give it back any soon !

fyi, after the october revolution, my country, Russia, had a civil war, Reds vs. Whites (commuunists and Democrats). during this conflict Finnland invaded and took part of Karelia. o, and the Finns made a big fuss about Karelia, and when we were willing to make a deal, they said, basically, got to hek.

of course, no war is without sacrifice but yours was decided upon by your leader. finland had no choice but to fight the winter war.
the winter war and continuation war adds up to (wikipedia numbers) 327,000 dead and 650,000 wounded for russia, plus 190,000 hospitalized and 65,000 captured. those are huge amounts and of course a sacrifice for your country. however they add up to about 1% of your total population at that time.

comparing that to finland, with 89,000 dead and 200,000 wounded in the 2 wars. adding up to roughly 290,000 in a country with somewhere around 3,5mil people at that time. that's just over 8%. nearly 1/10, and that's the ENTIRE population. that's why finns have such strong feelings about this war. everybody know someone who got killed or wounded in the war, not just a few.

I dont know that much about statistics (which is interesting though), but both of my grandfathers are war veterans. Theyve told me about their experiences when Ive asked, even its been clearly hard for them to talk about it.
Im so proud and thankfull. Im happy theres so many young men (and women) in my generation who appreciates the memory of our wars and wont let it fade away.

That's true. Germans played in their own pockets. At summer 1943 Germany was ready to sacrifice Finland if Germany can made armistice with Soviet Union. They were only going to secure their resource in the north part of Finland. Source: Paasikiven aikakauteen. All should remember that Hitler's Germany wasn't the same Germany which was helping Finland during the war of independence. During the Winter War Germany was very cold towards Finland. In the other hand, Italia was very warm.

i agree 100% but becouse some scandinavians don't think that finland should be part of it becouse of the unrelated language and such. But the kalmar union would be perfect with all our good politics and health care

Jaskamakkara, it does the same for me. But, all soilders are brainwashed, and that the government is the start of all wars. And all they start it for is for deaths among deaths for all countries in wars. And then create hatred between races. For example; A guy named Outskool100 keeps bashing Finns on the winter war, and that's what the winter war started and all wars do, is create hatred and deaths.

my grandfather was in the finnish war, he operated one of the L39 antitank guns. i believe, form what my grandmother told me, he captured 1 tank and blew another one's tracks off. he was killed by friendly fire. :( he was a good man from what my father and grandmother told me. and some dipsh*t killed him, on accident.

2. Svirsk-Petrozav. op. - 190K RAvs168K F (art. - 5 times more, planes - 17 time more), terms - ~1,5 mon. (21 June - 9 Aug).
19th of Sept Finland was out of the War.

HA HA HA I saw in wikipedia and Vasili Zaitsev the first greatest sniper in the world. Only in Stalingrad he killed more then 800(!) nazis with thir allys-finns. Yes, all finns were with nazis and in the fact they were nazis. And Vasili Zaitsev killed not only germans but he fucked finns too. Learn firs to read then go to wikipedia,stupid baby!
And as I remember my grandfather entered to Berlin and killed hundrds of germans and he knocked down nazi-fins in Leningrad.
