you always have the 3 assault rifles (Lancer, retro Lancer, Hammerburst), the two shotguns (Gnasher, Sawed-Off) and the only pistol. If having the same guns is not your thing, consider picking something else.
why do ppl constantly diss gears? if you don't like it then dont play it simple enough. halo 2 wasnt as good as the first or 3rd but hell i still liked it every series has a lackluster release it's natural. the first is naturally considered because the feeling you get from that game is simply replicated in the later releases.
@itchybruno I know what you mean. I am happy with how Gears 3 turned out. You don't have to rely TOO much on the dang shotgun as in previous iterations and you can really plan out tactics. It doesn't hurt that there is absolutely NO lag due to dedicated servers, and the maps are so well-designed. Plus, if you get tired of being pwned, just drop in Horde or Beast mode or singelplayer or coop. Crazy amount of content - you cannot go wrong here.
Few days after i typed that comment i discovered a gift card and decided to purchase gears 3. Pretty much everything you just said reflects my views on the game. Im really quite happy with it, and im amazed with the lag free element. Plus just as you said, the level design is something that is truly great. Extra content is great, and the Stat system is near perfect for me. My major hangup is sawn off being a starting weapon as it is far to OVERPOWERED to not have to pick up.
@yoshipatronum Go to switchgamesDOTcom It has saved me TONS of money and I recommend it to anyone. I actually got Crysis 2 from there and you can do one game for one game out there. I've done 30 or so trades at switchgames and it has been helpful. Gears 3, however, has one helluva a mp component, and unfortunately Crysis 2's mp is dying off though the sp is awesome. ;) Crysis 2 is one of my favorite mp games too, alongside Gears 3 and BF3...
I think the only map I dont like is trenches(not sure if that is the name but the one with the sand that comes in during the matches) I hate it b/c the sand comes in and half way blinds you. I know it was put their to make things more interesting but it really just breaks down gameplay.

@fuzznacht My recommendation? This definitely! Then BF3. Watch/read reviews for MW3. I am worried about its balance due to the 3 strike packages. I felt MW2 wasunbalanced but Black Ops seemed to be pretty okay. These games come down to balance. In my opinion, Gears 3 - when learned - is incredibly balanced. The sawed-off is powerful, but very risky, the gnasher is short-medium range, and the rifles are excellent all around. Multiplayer is about balance (Gears 3 has graphics to boot!).
Gears has always been shotgun shotgun shotgun, because if you rush you will get owned, and the thing with the gears trilogy, every map everybody always meets up around the same place which equals= shotuguns.

The reason I usually get in first place in King of the HIll is because I do NOT use the shotgun most of the time.Allow enemy 2 get 2 capture point, keep distance, mark em, & mow them down. They'll shoot w/ shotguns and have no chance. The Retro Lancer is very short ranged weapon, so I recommend the lancer/hammerburst. Shoot their legs when they're running-it slows them down! Two enemies? Shoot one, down him (don't kill), then down the other, THEN kill them!
@BestofVideoGames let me rephrase that, the chunk of the multiplayer most kills come from shotguns, and like i said rushing in is the biggest fault for the reason a rapid fire weapon will down you easily, or i might be thinking of when the only actually good gears multiplayer which would be the first one before all the updates.

I am taking my copy back to gamestop and putting it towards something that will not make me want to destroy everything within a 50 yard radius. campaign - amazing, horde/beast - brilliant, VS mode - ruined by unbalanced weapons and shotgunfest. Since I've done everything not to do with VS, this game is no longer any use to me. I will not continue to participate in a cluster of shotgun homosexuals who get off on unrealistic firefight mechanics. Looks like it takes a real loser to be a winner.

@TheInsomniasurfer IGN recently did tips & tricks and my opinion matched what they said; use the rifles people! Mark your targets, keep your distance, watch the corners. Corners are death traps usually with sawed-off shotguns lying in wait. I'm starting to get better w/ the sawed-off btw.

@TimCollinsATL The thing about Gears 3 is the campaign can easily open you up to how to play the games and you'll be able to learn in no time from that. Plus, there's Horde and Beast Mode to practice around in before heading into competitive multiplayer. I'm that that terrible of a player, but I can say you will most likely get used to this game easily. Don't be afraid to pay attention to what other players are doing when you die - and in Gears 3, you die a lot! lol :D Trust me: It's fun! :)

The Sandbar Map reminds me of Bulletstorm. It's like EPIC had left over graphics from that game and used it in a map. It also reminds me of prehistoric times as well. It's very unlike Gears this map, but I like that.

@Pmike2345 Yeah, it would be cool to see some new modes, though I think they stuffed this game with tons of content. I am curious as to why DLC doesn't release with new maps AND new modes. If a developer ever did this (that is, new modes that are more experimental and not tdm or main modes) it would be interesting. More importantly, getting rid of DLC altogether and just putting it in the original game would be even better (but that is just wishful thinking in this day and age).

I feel like I am a very good team player however, considering I got second place out of the entire room on King of the Hill. Sure, 1st place would be nice, but I'm not greedy (and besides, I've been there many times). It seems like they really opened Gears 3 up for a lot of different gamers. ;)
@ZeRoGRiMMjOW Yeah it is. Instead of having multiple capture points there is just one. Unfortunately, I really sort of miss Annex and wish they'd bring it back. I was a huge fan of that mode. As usual, though, Epic Games succeeded in bringing most of the players to Team Deathmatch, though I still love TDM, in Gears 3 the team-oriented modes are so much more satisfying.

Hello, @BestofVideoGames Today I just bought the game, has become one of the best I've played, I liked, but I have a question. How do you do to make different execution? I have seen that every gun makes a differently execution, but I'm only level 9 in this game, Can you tell me how to do different execution with the weapons? (sorry my english)
If this is not apart from the beta, in order to do a finisher (weapon execution), you need to have killed a certain amount of times with that gun.
Once you have done that, approach a downed enemy with the weapon you can execute with and HOLD Y (that is important; pressing Y is just a regular curb stomp)
@BestofVideoGames The Scorcher execution is amazing, but I honestly love the Lancer execution the best, since it's a common gun, and just the way it's performed. So beautiful.
I would like to see some actual gameplay of people that actually know how to play, rather than these fucking idiots that went straight to Gears 3 without playing 1 or 2 or Gears 2 without playing 1. All I see is lancering bums, hard aiming, 2 piecing, and shotgun fools. Where is the real skill at?

@selesty well, you would keep your head slightly down while walk to not get shot, and they stand upright when standing still.
They have a bracket for their guns on their back.
and like I said, the huge torso is the build, and you don't need strong legs for survival. The heads are normal.

@TheInsomniasurfer IGN recently did tips & tricks and my opinion matched what they said; use the rifles people! Mark your targets, keep your distance, watch the corners. Corners are death traps usually with sawed-off shotguns lying in wait. I'm starting to get better w/ the sawed-off btw.

@TimCollinsATL The thing about Gears 3 is the campaign can easily open you up to how to play the games and you'll be able to learn in no time from that. Plus, there's Horde and Beast Mode to practice around in before heading into competitive multiplayer. I'm that that terrible of a player, but I can say you will most likely get used to this game easily. Don't be afraid to pay attention to what other players are doing when you die - and in Gears 3, you die a lot! lol :D Trust me: It's fun! :)

The Sandbar Map reminds me of Bulletstorm. It's like EPIC had left over graphics from that game and used it in a map. It also reminds me of prehistoric times as well. It's very unlike Gears this map, but I like that.

@Pmike2345 Yeah, it would be cool to see some new modes, though I think they stuffed this game with tons of content. I am curious as to why DLC doesn't release with new maps AND new modes. If a developer ever did this (that is, new modes that are more experimental and not tdm or main modes) it would be interesting. More importantly, getting rid of DLC altogether and just putting it in the original game would be even better (but that is just wishful thinking in this day and age).

I feel like I am a very good team player however, considering I got second place out of the entire room on King of the Hill. Sure, 1st place would be nice, but I'm not greedy (and besides, I've been there many times). It seems like they really opened Gears 3 up for a lot of different gamers. ;)

@ZeRoGRiMMjOW Yeah it is. Instead of having multiple capture points there is just one. Unfortunately, I really sort of miss Annex and wish they'd bring it back. I was a huge fan of that mode. As usual, though, Epic Games succeeded in bringing most of the players to Team Deathmatch, though I still love TDM, in Gears 3 the team-oriented modes are so much more satisfying.

@JoseMonkeys i'll answer this one.
If this is not apart from the beta, in order to do a finisher (weapon execution), you need to have killed a certain amount of times with that gun.
Once you have done that, approach a downed enemy with the weapon you can execute with and HOLD Y (that is important; pressing Y is just a regular curb stomp)

I would like to see some actual gameplay of people that actually know how to play, rather than these fucking idiots that went straight to Gears 3 without playing 1 or 2 or Gears 2 without playing 1. All I see is lancering bums, hard aiming, 2 piecing, and shotgun fools. Where is the real skill at?
