No actually. Blu-ray is the next evolution in home video and it will kill off DVD. HD-DVD was nothing more than just a suped up DVD. Beta was just a smaller VHS, DVHS was just ass.

It's over Blu-ray won, every single studio is going with Blu-Ray. Finally people are realizing that it has better picture quality (like the beta-max did) and the ability to hold more space. HD-DVD lost Blu-Ray won get over it.

Yeah, HD-DVD must be DEAD.

Sad really, because the only REAL advantage of Blu-Ray - for consumers - is the fact that it compacts more data per disc (mostly just a PC thing).

HD-DVD has a better and more solid standard. Sony's Blu-Ray left too much format-support 'optional'; that doesn't give disc-makers much incentive to include better sound formats and such. Why make discs with extras/formats that many players won't support?

BTW this war was one by advertising (so many are these days).

Actually, all movies and players are going to be 2.0 profile very soon (matching HD-DVD in extra features and still beating it in size and media cost) and with profile 2.0, everyone with a 2.0 player can upgrade to 3.0 should they develop it, and 4.0... iHD was a set format, Bluray Java can keep getting better and better.

I'm sorry everyone but the war is over, Blu-Ray won, Toshiba is officially ceasing production of HD-DVD in 2 weeks and Walmart stopped selling HD-DVD movies & players already, and because of this, Microsoft won't be happy, the HD-DVD add-on will no longer be sold because it's made by Toshiba, in other news, the PS3 outsold the 360 in January 08, 360 sold 230,000 consoles and PS3 sold 269,000 consoles, so please don't mention HD-DVD, it doesn't exist

HD DVD for me thanks!! No ways am I investing in a any present day Blu-Ray player that can't even meet Sony's own Blu-Ray spec! If you invest now your player will be obsolete in a short matter of time! Plus they are far overpriced and problematic compared to the HD DVD counterpart! HD DVD looks just as good, Cost a hell of a lot less and will work for many years without NEEDING a upgrade! The choice should be clear!

Seriously, if you are gonna spend $1,000+ on an HDTV what will a few extra bucks hurt for a movie? BluRay won because of the PS3 and because its got more storage. The blu-ray itself is better than HD-DVD since the only similar thing HD-DVD has is quality. Things are expensive nowadays, get used to it.

So you've been waiting 2 years to come back and post this? LOL! Little man...

But if you must know, it's worked out pretty well. My Toshiba HD DVD player still works great with all of the super cheap movies I picked up. Still upscales DVD better than my PS3. But what if it dies, you say? Well, then I have my BR/HD DVD combo player in my computer. How much have you spent on BR movies in the last 2 years?
