I remember these way back in the 70s. To me, they were the prettiest subway trains in the system, even though I'm a big fan of the Redbirds. Only thing to me that's weird is the very small letter/number sign that looks so out of place on this body style.

No, they are R32 GE's. There were 10 R32's rebuilt by GE, and the R38's were also rebuilt by GE. That's why they look similar.

I feel as those R32's and R38's really epitomize the style of the IND... I already miss seeing them fly by on Queens Blvd waiting at my stop at 63rd Drive...I personally always found it weird seeing them on the BMT... but maybe I'm bias...

You're actually really wrong about that. The R32's were originally BMT cars, as they replaced the BMT Standards in Coney Island Yard. So they mainly appeared on BMT lines. Only until recently did the R32's start to dominate Jamaica Yard after they left Coney Island Yard.

Well the Q hasn't run R32's since 2004-2005. Maybe it ran a few in 2006-2007, but I'm not so sure.

in 2006-07, R32s ran on the B and W before being sent to Jamaica when the R160Bs arrived.

It could be you just do not like them because of that accident. They are the best trains in the fleet. I'm trying to get as many rides as possible while they are running on the c line, r, f v lines. All 600 should of been rebuilt, and kept in service 15 more years starting in 2007. Old equipment on them could be rebuilt, parts that need to be replaced could be made in machine shops.

@kingnyc77 R38's didn't get the stainless steel roof that the R32's got. But they were better in acceleration and stopping speed. They had better brake systems. I always hate when they would couple the R32's with the R38's, since the R32's always felt more inferior to me.

Some cars Acs need to be fixed or adjusted right. I find acs to work very well on them. They are nice and cool. Great heat during the winter. Other trains including 160s have poor heat. I find r32s to be very cool trains during the summer.

What? The R32 has a strong stainless steel body and will last longer than any other old car in the New York Subway. The R38 is garbage. R32's would go on into the 2010's decade, so you would be seeing them for another long while.

actually,the R1 lasted from 1931-1977,which is 46 years.The R1 has the most years in the NYCS,unless the r32 goes all the way to 47 years old when it retires,but its impossible for r32 to retire when they are 46 years old
