Unfortunately, far too many people think leaving comments gives permission to be insulting, disrespectful and vulgar. Sad that people can't find respectful ways to give their comments. Then again, it says more about the own lack of maturity then anything else.
the performance is an exam for a school called 'Herman Teirlinck', it's not a normal performance. normally she sings dutch songs, but the teacher want to make it a bit harder on the students with foreign languages. more songs she sang, 1 in italian.. probably not perfect either, but I don't mind , she passed :)
I can but agree. Believe me, I appreciate the interest and the effort shown by a group of youngsters, but what it lacks is neshome. A shand far di goyim!
You probably speak both languages better than I do, but it's worth noting that western Yiddish sounds a lot like German and not much like Eastern (Polish, Litvish, etc.) Yiddish.
I am sure it is supposed to be scary. It's a vision of hell. I think it's a wonderful song and very well performed. I would still like to get the lyrics (I am a singer - Simon Prager). nismans replied before and I suspect he is the writer.
Thank you very much for that information. Where can I find out more? Is she from Belgium, Netherlands? If you find the lyrics I would love to see them. Who wrote the song?

Sorry, I don´t like this. I have respect for this staging, but it´s so far away from the true spirit of Yiddish singing.... it doesn´t have it.

You'd be surprised with the way Yiddush was used. I believe my grandmother had a book What Katy Did Next written in Yiddush. :)

it's hard to believe since the jewish songs are easier to sing and usually not in a chromatic way.
but you have to notice the piont here.
imagine your self in a fabrik (factory) and listen to the machinesand the tumult
what do you say now...

I wish the Jews would be like they should be and observe mitzvot, instead goyim are the ones who do that

This sounds more like German than Yiddish.....
boshemleich 4 years ago
are you really serious ? don't you know yiddish is at his main core a germanic dialect.
aronron2727 4 years ago
Of course Yiddish is from German, but as somebody who speaks both lang I can tell you that this sounds to me like German and not Yiddish.
boshemleich 4 years ago
If you say so !

I am aware of that. I can actually speak Yiddish with 3 different accents.
This is not Yiddish.
boshemleich 4 years ago
i don't think that the song is about yiddish. It sort of transcends languege, the core of the song.
