They have a lot of similarities, yeah, but also a lot of differences. Serj is much more directly political. He has a number of specific social causes that he champions, he's spoken for PETA, doesn't hesitate to blame specific people or groups of people.

Daron's much more casual and broad about it. The sense I always get is that Serj wants to fix the world, Daron just wants to enjoy being in it.

Serj: "That sucks, we gotta tell people!"

Daron: "That sucks, we better get high."

A lot of Scars songs seem to hint at the wedge that formed between Serj and Daron, IMO. Though I might just be reading too much into it.

Songs like World Long Gone and Serious, parts of them, seem to stand out in very stark contrast to what Serj's style was more about.

Lyrics like, "Maybe I don't know how many people are starving in this world long gone," for example, compared to Serj's overtly political nature.

This is ironic, but part of using English well is mastering the art of synonyms. You can save a sentence of explaining by using one good word instead. The irony is that these synonyms are where you find "loaner" words the most.
