  • Did you know that the Captain on the Sailing Ship Columbia (the one in the blue suit that breaks open the rum barrel with his sword and dances) in the attraction's opening ceremony is actually the late, great Wally Boag?

Yes, the same Wally Boag that performed in the Golden Horseshoe Revue and voiced Jose the Tiki Bird.

  • disneyland is like a second heaven

  • Anythings possible at Disneyland <3

  • I find it unbelievable how the tone and editing of this is a bit dated, yet the rides themselves are timeless.

  • What a cute way of opening up the ride for the first time! That would have been great to see.

  • For Walt Disney to think of all of this...and use all of this technology--for all of the rides--he's pure genius! I'd give anything to see some of the original things put into these rides that aren't there anymore...and to see the grand openings of them.

  • I am so envious of anyone who lives near these parks!! I've been to DL and WDW several times and it NEVER gets old.

  • Loved this..thanks!

  • "Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world."—Walt Disney

  • the guy who played captain hook at 7:15 is my grandpa :D hes still alive and tells me about it!!

  • Since I was little, something about that guy in scene 8:23 always just bleed with awesome! I think it's how he dresses and carries himself.

  • Love videos like this

  • "Anything's possible at Disneyland." ~Walt Disney 3:52

    Truth in 4 words.

  • I love How walt was always Exited to share these Brilliant Creations with us. He was a true Progress Fueled American. I'm glad to live Close to Disneyland CA . see it grow and grow.

  • I think if walt saw how the Disney corporation is being ran today... He'd roll over in grave...

  • @robsee055 If Walt was here I'd say, "You know Walt, 76.00 a pop is a bit much. Sure do miss those ticket books."

  • "You believe in pirates of course?" What? He sounds like it's a religion or something.

  • @MeatballsMarlowe I think he said that because he asked her already if she believed in ghosts during the Haunted Mansion part and she said no. I think it was a joke from the earlier Haunted Mansion segment.

  • @MeatballsMarlowe Yeah, that line has always bothered me

  • I think that Walt was a better man after he had his nervous break down and focused more on constructing parks rather than turning on his animation departments. The man was a visionary and business savvy, not a Cartoonist. Many people forget that Walt could barley draw Mickey Mouse, but signed his name to other artist's works on a regular basis. I do however respect the man for having a dream (albeit a huge dream) and accomplishing it even though he was a real prick in his early years.

  • They taped the opening scene in front of a screen in a studio.

  • Wow I wish I could visit a place like this. Do they replace rides like this? or just expand the grounds?

  • "You do believe in pirates, don't you?"

    Wut?

  • That Hostesses voice is ANNOYING!

  • All these attractions created by Disney and crew are truly amazing. The fact that some of these attractions are over 40 years old is a testament to creative work they did way back then. They are just as fun today as they were then. No small feat to say the least.

  • Mr. Disney sounds out of breath.

  • god bless Walt....

  • the hostess is so cute, her voice is cute too.

  • 0:10 ha ha. little girl snubbed Mickey

  • the car behind them must have be like "what The HELL?!"

  • walt disney,gotta love him.<33

  • OMG this is amazing. roflol

  • is this the world of color show? from the Movie DVD

  • even though i just went to disneyland yesterday this vid makes me want to go back again

  • 8:10-8:16 and 8:29- Disneyland would never be able to get away with that these days due to "Political Corectness" my how times have changed.

  • hee hee at the start... she's not really at disneyland but back in that day it probably looked realistic!! XD I wish I was there at that time.

  • the "dunking the mayor" scene looks incredibly realistic

  • disney didnt want it to stay the same there has to be changes all the time so that it does not get boring

  • A little violent for Disney today.

  • I want to go back in time to 1965 before they added that Johnny Depp bullshit! Who's with me people?!!!!

  • Today is the 43 anniversary of the opening of the PotC ride!

  • Yeah. I still love the ride even thought they made a bit of changes but there are still a lot of scenes that still exist.

  • thx for posting this up, i used to have this on VHS my dad recorded long time ago, but my old VCR ate that VHS which also held other old Disney classic toons. Thank You InternetX3

  • Awesome video! Never saw it before. Thanks!!!

  • Why would he ask her if she believes in pirates?

  • LOL, I bet all that liquor was apple juice... ^_^

  • Walt Disney opened Pirates of the Caribbean in 1965!

    LOVE THE RIDE!

  • im yet to see fucking micky mouse i hugged stich and thats it

  • haha disney would never put on that pirate show these days. pirates shooting guns, stealing pretty women, and drinking liquor, throwing people into the dirty rivers of america. today people would be offended by such antics

  • That show only happened once, to commemorate the opening of the darn thing in the first place.

  • Wow, whoever knew Pirates of the Carribean would amount to a movie? My dad to this day talks about being 7 year old in 1966 and riding ALL the rides. I wish I had proof.

  • That's soo cool.. At 32 I am still so enchanted by Disneyland

  • I agree.

  • Walt used to say that the beauty of Disneyland was that it would never be finished. He always intended for the park to be updated and expanded. Sure, I miss some of the old attractions, but if they kept everything the same, it would eventually cease being an amusement park and become a museum of nostalgia; what a drag.

  • I saw this on TV when I was a kid. Walt is holding a Kodak 126 instamatic camera. He did a commercial for the camera at the beginning of the show.

  • Whoa! That was cool! LOL!

  • Do you think they'll put the Princess and the Frog somewhere in New Orleans Square?

  • Yes, there are plans to.

  • where did you hear that?

  • They must be, there is a set of stairs hidden in the square, I imagine she would be there.

  • alrighty then... i am going to assume you are joking

  • True, there is evidence of short temper, but once again WHERE is the proof of his racism?

  • You my friend are either misinformed or getting your information from a rotten source. We all have a temper, so what we're human; no big deal. But he was not anti-semetic. That's one of -the- stupidest rumors in history!

  • Yeah, exactly. This was probably meant to be watched by families, and the sixties were when the baby boomers started having kids. Walt Disney was both a very kind person and a person with extraordinary vision. He contributed much to America, technology, and the world and is missed by many.

  • wtf is with the hostess's voice she sounds like one of those dumb flight attendants.

  • Hey, come on, it was the 60's.

  • it really makes me smile sieng walt smile :)

  • i never knew how old it actually was..its insane to think its never changed. awesome.

  • Wow, the opening day for this was so god dam badass. I wish we got to see more awesome acting for when new rides come out :O I wish i was there for that!

  • Hahaha. Crappy lighting on the studio actors with that lame rear projection. Disney loves illusion for its own sake.

  • Man, I love Walt DIsney.

  • walt was so happy. :]

  • this and space mountain rocks!.

  • This is indeed one of the best rides at Disneyland. I just to Disneyland for the first in 10yrs and i STILL remember that ride like it was yesterday, hell i even remeber the smell of the fog! lol thats how amazing this ride and everything else at Disneyland is. And the new additions didnt really bother me as much as i thought they would. Still one of the best! =D

  • Wow I love this video its amazing

  • I disagree with anyone who's against the changes made to this ride. I'm 100% sure that Walt did not want the parks to remain the same. Personally, I LOVE the new additions. I've always loved the ride and I'm a huge fan of the movies, so I was really excited when they added Jack Sparrow.

  • So True ^__^

  • AMEN!!!!! i agree 100% with you carly3592

  • same here. it's nice when Disneyland makes little adjustments to rides to update them rather than getting rid of a ride completely to replace it with a more updated ride (although the Finding Nemo Submarine Ride is an exception)

  • amen to that!

    down with haters!

  • @carly3592 Especially if you think about it, they didn't do a bad job. It could've been worse. MUCH worse

  • @carly3592 I agree that Walt would have wanted POtC to get updated, but the "Where's Jack Sparrow" theme really gets annoying to watch.

  • @ExMachina70 I'm with you there! They could have updated the ride with the movie elements and made it much more subtle and fitting, but as it is right now it feels like they're disregarding the theme and story of the ride in order to shove Jack Sparrow down our throats.

  • lol she sound's like luna lovegood from harry potter.

  • haha! you're right =D

  • I like her black Hotdog On A Stick hat.

    Pump that lemonade!

  • her voice is really creepy...

  • haha at 10 seconds mickey got left hanging man

  • i love how Walt chuckles to himself when describing the ride -- like he knows what he says sounds crazy but he knows he can make it come true at the same time!

  • 8:01 you can tell that dude wasnt real

  • Surely they didn't really just stick those things in the back of a truck and drive them on the freeway!

  • thank you so much for uploading this! i had actually taped this years back when vault disney would come on late at night on disney channel, but my mom accidentally taped Days of Our Lives over it, haha. i was so happy to see it again! :D

  • I saw "Pirates of the Caribbean Construction" at the "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Preal" Two Disc Edition (DVD)

  • What about the haunted Mansion?

  • Its on my channel : )

  • @freedogshampoo Can i have some free dog shampoo?

  • yep

  • Thanks for the small world video.

  • No problem. Did you check out both the Imagineering Department video and the Grand opening?

  • Thank you.

  • What about the haunted Mansion?

  • that will be uploaded tonight

  • Still my favorite ride, and although I enjoy the movies, I can't say I'm happy with the updates.

    We miss ya, Walt...

  • A bloody shame what they did to this beautiful ride

  • What did they do? Unless you consider an "update" a tear-down...

  • HungryPorkins--

Its not a shame. The ride STILL has a classic feel, and its still beautiful.

Its important that rides get a breath of fresh air once in a while. Walt knew that.

Its a known fact that Walt WANTED Disneyland to change. He did NOT want the park to be a museum.

Anyone who does not want Disneyland to change is denying Walt his dream for the park.

  • I don't understand why they don't upgrade and expand the ride, beyond the Depp stuff. At least at WDW, there seem to be a lot of empty black areas that could be filled with new scenes.

POTC is, and may always be, the world's finest dark ride.

  • i hear ya! it's like Walt Disney said, "Disneyland will never be finished as long as there's imagination in the world." as time goes on, new things will be added/updated. let's just hope that some of the E-ticket attractions never go away permanantly.

  • did you go to disneyworld and disneyland?

  • just disney world

  • Do you have it's a small world?

  • nope, sorry

  • its a small world will be uploaded tonight. i have a clip of the opening.

  • can u get the original one, not the one from the black pearl disk?

  • I wish i could; dont know where to find it. Although, I did see a slightly different version somewhere.

  • I miss you Uncle

  • thx
