  • My pup had a reaction to a vaccination (rabies plus distemper/parvo, I think). She was had vomited in the car before we had even started moving, and she slept the rest of the day. Even knowing the reaction, I'll continue getting her the shots, just because of the wildlife in our area (foxes, coyotes, skunks, raccoons, opossums, rats, etc) , and I live in NYC of all places. But I agree, a longer space of time between shots might benefit. Should the law remain every 3 years in high risk areas?

  • The purpose of a vaccine is to cause an immune response. To defend the dog against the disease if it ever comes in contact with it again. It allows the body to manufacture the antibodies neccessary. Meadow: ITS A LAB. large dogs do not live as long as small dogs, its a common fact. Dogs get tumors, you cant assume from one case that all dogs will get tumors at an injection sight because one lab did. Labradors get lipomas and malignant tumors all the time. Reactions can occur to any vaccine.

  • Not to mention that United States dogs are RABIES FREE... Without the rabies vaccine, the only way that a dog can get rabies, is through an outside source... I am for vaccines... but not for over vaccinations

  • Help what is rong with my dog i need my answers imediatly!!!!!!!my dog got her rabies vaccination, parvovirus, and bordetella and she is less actice and she has pain at the injection site!!!!!!!!!!:(

  • is your doggy okay?

  • It's awful that peeps are jumping to negative conclusions from this video. As a responsible pet owner its your JOB to do whats best for your pet. The problem with over vaccination is that most people have no clue its being done. So someone is trying to open the eyes of the public and people are freaking out? She never said not to get your dog vaccinated she only said that doing it every year is ridiculous and there is tremendous scientific evidence to back it. DO YOUR RESEARCH!

  • I brought my healthy 7 year old Maltese who is the love of my life for anti rabies vaccination at PET CARE A VAN in Walgreens Daytona Beach. Few days later, she couldnt stand up, wobbles, has muscle weakness, seizures every few minutes, drastic change in behavior and convulsions. I wish I did my research before having her vaccinated. SHAME on you, PHARMA/drug companies and VETS who inject our dogs with TOXIC chemicals! SHAME on you LAWMAKERS who made BAD LAWS that KILL DOGS!

  • how long did it last? did she recover?

  • My dog had his 3 year Rabies shot. 4 days after he got very ill with serious digestive problems, enough to rush him to the vet. The Vet ran lots of expensive tests. His enzyme levels were very high. He said this had nothing to do with the shot. Now i'm suppose to put him on a special diet.. But just seems like the timing of him getting sick like this is strange. I started doing research & Thats when i came upon your site. Thanks for the info! And that's a cute video you made~~~:)

  • @zaraaaazar, don't put your dog on some pricy and ineffective diet. My dog had severe issues with food allergies and I decided to do some research. What I found out about pet foods has been beyond shocking! Switch your dog to a prey model diet! You can learn more about it at rawfed.com.

  • Wonderful video. Eye opening, important topic and all done with an adorable maltese to warm your heart.

  • Once we brought one of our labs to the vet for diahrrea for fear of parvo (our other puppy contracted it immediatly after a vaccination), and the vet suggested to vaccinate for rabies! That was 5 years ago and at the time I was 16 and knew that it is bad to vaccinate a dog while it may be fighting off another illness. Why bombard the immune system with something else? I was shocked at this vet, but have gone through a number of other vets that seem to act the same way about vaccines. Its too bad

  • my teachers husband got bit by a raccoon and he had to take alot of shots to prevent or fight the rabies

  • My cat had an infection so I took her to the vet...they keep trying to sell me the Rabies Vaccation. I just told them, "lets just take care of the problem at hand and not add anything to the mix" She is a 13 year old fat cat that doesn't go out side much...sounded so unnecessary to me.

  • "Poor little me"...that was cute and informative. When I had my cat vaccinated the vet told me that sometimes there are serious side effects. I think that since animals can't speak to us in our language we assume they don't require the same quality of care as humans do...but if people consider their pets "members of the family", shouldn't they have better vaccines?

  • good job, love it, so cute too

  • The 3-year vaccine has been proven by challenge to last 5 years, and by serology (blood tests) to last for 7. Humans contracting rabies from dogs is rare. I'm not worried. Besides, if you listened to the video, I'm not recommending an end to vaccination, just to UNNECESSARY shots.

  • agreed rabies is rare in humans you probably get it if you get bit by an infected wild animal and you don't do anything about it

  • Have fun with your rabies.

  • All medicines, vaccines, drugs have potential side effects, in the broad scope of things, the vaccine helps the public safety more than it harms dogs. I'd rather have a dead dog than a dead human.

  • Why do you presume it's one or the other?

  • @ Ryuujin4485... This isn't about ending the rabies shot all together it's saying the duration of the rabies shot last between 5 -7 years, not 1 - 3. You can't add water to an already filled tank. That's like us humans getting a tetanus shot every 1 - 3 years, when we only need it once every 10 years.

  • @Ryuujin4485 but that's just it by lowering the frequency of these vaccinations you get both a healthier dog and no increased risk of rabies to humans. All this person is trying to say is why would you do something harmful to your pet when there is no need to.

  • Great video...so glad a came across this site....Thank you !

  • Exactly why my dogs will travel abroad I'm afraid.

Come to that, I don't vaccinate after the puppy stage...my dogs have never been healthier!

  • I hate Big Pharma. They're doing the same thing to humans as they are to dogs with all of these vaccinations.

  • My ferret got sick after her rabies vac so I signed a paper last time she was due for it taking responsibility so she wouldn't have to have another one.

  • My doggy became sick two days after the vaccine. He's has been trembling non stop, had a fever yesterday, little appetite, very lethargic and is limping on his hind legs. I feel bad for the poor little guy, luckily his side effects are mild compared to what other dogs experience.

  • There are supposed to be natural antidotes, don't know if they have to be administered right after the shot, But here are some of the names: Charcoal, Lyssin and Thuja. Please check online and investigate if something can help your pup now. I am so sorry..

  • My dog was vaccinated... He has recently become very aggressive and no matter what we do, we cannot control it. There is no warning when he is going to attack and we cannot find a reason behind his aggression. Could it be from the vaccine?

  • I believe aggression is a side effect of the vaccine. The shot imitates rabies in dogs, since aggression is a symptom of rabies, your dogs immune system probably thinks it has the disease.

  • No. It doesn't actually work that way at all.

  • It's so stupid, there is always a chance that something happens even from a simple cubcutenious injection. It just happens, it is not a reason to make videos like this and scare people, who doesn't listen to it properly and just decide not to give any vaccinations. It is really reckless of you.

  • Interesting topic but the same problem also happens to human vaccines for other diseases too actually.

    I Luv Dogs.

  • My miniature daschund got the rabies vac. at age 7 months and was never the same again. He became mean and aggressive. I still kept him even though he had bitten me a time or two. He died early at less than 4 years old. He had a total personality change after that shot.

  • My mom is a dog groomer and has had several Yorkies come to get groomed who, after the rabies vaccination, had tissue on there ears starting to die and getting black dead skin areas around the injection site... There is some scary shots out there...

  • While I agree that vaccines should not be given as often as they are currently and have been in the past, there are still too many people out there who don't give their pets vaccinations that they SHOULD. There would be so fewer dogs who die from parvo if people got the vaccinations (appropriately) ...

  • The problem is to determine what is appropriate. Yearly shots are a thing of the past.

  • I think it's wonderful how you are trying to make the public fearful about vaccines which are very effective at preventing serious diseases. And for the record, if a pet develops an illness after a vaccine, it does NOT mean that the vaccine caused it. That is a FACT, unlike the fiction that is being spewed out on your "educational" video.

  • There's not a word of fiction, movievet. Experts cleared every piece of information. I am NOT against the rabies vaccine and say so in the video. I AM against vets who don't warn of the risks of vaccination, who don't fully disclose risks and obtain informed consent, who don't take precautions to prevent problems. Do you not read the peer literature on adverse reactions? It does no one any good to pretend that vaccines -- which are serious medicine with serious risks -- are completely safe.

  • Folks---what you hear is greedy self-interest talking. People become most vicious when their means of income is questioned. I believe a New York Times study 1851 through 1920 would strongly suggest pet lifespans were LONGER before vet vaccines and harsh, toxic vet drugs like prednisone (killed my dog) and rimadyl (seriously hurt my other dog). Do web search on Dr. Bob Rogers + vaccination + Texas see what HE says. If your pet has had shots, give it Vit-E + selenium + reduced L glutathione.

  • Thanks for your comment, skirts. Yes, people fear loss of income, prestige and hate the thought that maybe what they've always believed is wrong. You're right after dog lifespans shortening. Cancer is striking dogs at younger and younger ages. We need to do something. Dr. Rogers was instrumental in getting the Texas law changed from 1 to 3 yrs. He's a real hero.

  • Great job K9. I think movievet saying that, "if a pet develops an illness after a vaccine, it does NOT mean that the vaccine caused it," is intellectually dishonest, and a little bit insane. Isn't that like saying, if you smoke for the first time and cough, it isn't the cigarette that made you cough! Even if one believes this faulty logic, at the very least one must admit it's highly suspect. Not only that, if there are thousands of reports of reactions to vaccines (lots go unreported).

  • It's like saying "I had a bowl of cheerios today, and then I got the flu". If you think the cheerios caused the flu, I pity you because, frankly, I find it hard to believe you are able to walk and breathe at the same time.

  • Why would they care about dogs? vaccines are causing autism in children, many war vets are sick almost to the point of death from vaccinations during the war, heck they are drugging our water with fluoride and it is toxic. but they care about dogs, eemmmhmmm, get some education.

  • I'm getting a new pup next month and wanted to know when is a good age to start the first shots I have a chihuahua that got a little sick from the rabies 3 year shot so I didn't get it this time around I also have a staffy that has lots of health problems I'm not sure if that has anything to do with her shots there is a lot of dogs that get parvo in our area so they have to get there shots

  • i was bitten by the rabid dog, during my trip to Russia when i was 13. and i so reather to have the dog vaccinated then me. I had about 20 shot, and all of them hurt like hell. Plus shitty side affects.

  • Canine rabies does not exist in the U.S., but it is on the rise in our wildlife - in raccoons, foxes, coyotes, bats, etc. If my dog comes into contact with a rabid raccoon and is bitten, then my dog is in trouble if I can't prove to the authorities that he is up to date on his rabies vaccinations. He would then be either quarantined for up to 6 months or euthanized. I think it would be interesting to see the numbers of pets who have benefited from the rabies vaccine and those who have not.

  • New, Rapid Rabies Test 2/2009 -- Dyne Immune, LLC announced their new, portable Rabies RAPID Screen, which can detect the presence of rabies in an animal saliva sample within 30 minutes.... The screen allows veterinarians, animal control officers and others to check for rabies in animals that are still alive, eliminating the long wait (10 to 14 days) and hefty price tag associated with typical post-mortem rabies testing.

  • Source?

  • While it's nice that the test can give a positive in 30 minutes, unfortunately a negative result means nothing.

  • You are right system is morally bankrupt, upper cervical specific care doctors have helped all kinds of problems with out drugs or supplements. Best preventative care. Imbalances to the spine can be present but you wont know until years latter. Then your body will be all contorted. This is an outward sign of an internal problem that more than likely stated at birth. Doctors have snowed people on so many things concerning drugs leads me to believe rabbis is also one of them .vaccinosis kills.

  • Its better than the alternative. Which is death.

  • So, you think it's better to prevent rabies (which people rarely get from dogs, but rather from bats) at any cost?? Use a dangerous vaccine instead of developing a safer one and giving it only as needed to sustain immunity? The folks at Big Pharma love this attitude. We can be safe and also not sorry. These are not mutually exclusive events.

  • We CAN have superb health care modalities that work for far less money - & in the few cases they don't - at least they won't maim/kill. Pet health care & oversight processes should protect pet guardians not Big Pharma. Going to a vet is like being asked to cross a highway without looking: you may get across - but you had better not witness - or talk about - the horror show on the asphalt. And, the bodies are piling up. The system is morally bankrupt, not just on Wall Street.

  • well we can't have a perfect medication, theres always a down fall...

  • Perfect medications? No. But we can insist that vaccines and other drugs are safe for most of the recepients, and that known problems are resolved. We can also insist that we as consumers are fully informed.

  • Good video only thing I complain is the dog's voice.. call me whatever you want but I just can't stand animals talking.

    Anyhow nice video! Very educative.

  • My beloved 3 months puppy hasn't reached the time for rebies shot, but already died by second 5-in-1 vaccine shot right after the shot. Vet would never tell you the side effect the shots caused. After I knew the dangers of vaccine I had lost my puppy. The Con is greater than Pro to take pet for vaccination.

  • You're absolutely right. I agree and say so in the video. I DO, however, know that it is a very dangerous vaccine, and a group of dedicated scientists is doing a study (without being paid) to prove that the vaccine will be just as safe for humans, and safer for animals, if it is given less often. They are using the exact same method that proved the shot gives three years of immunity to prove that it really lasts five or seven. Don't be alarmed.

  • This is a great video. We prefer quick and easy answers... like rabies shots every couple of years - now were're all 'safe'. But it takes time for us to really listen to details to have informed answers. Thanks for sharing this in a 'quick' yet informed manner. Now we can think twice before we run out and do the 'safe' thing!

  • Hopefully that study will bring positive results. Now, I can't argue with a small dog with glasses, but I still consider that it's most important to keep them free of rabies, because cases of developed symptoms after the shot are not that common. If we compare it to the real danger behind rabies, which is after all a pandemia, I believe I'd go with the shot every year or two. Still, quite an educative video, keep up the good work!

  • thanks a lot for posting this video.

  • THANKS FOR POSTING THIS!

  • My groomer told me about how bad the rabies shot is after I told her I was going to take my dog today for her booster. After alot of reading I cancelled her appt. Since her 1st shot she has had severe allergies and became possessive over things. 2 years ago after a booster she got a large egg-size bump under her leg, vet said it was a reaction to the booster, adema. She gets very sick from her shots. I'm afraid of getting her booster from now on. I love her too much to get these anymore.

  • well my dog gets a rabies shot once every year and hes just fine

  • "well my dog gets a rabies shot once every year and hes just fine"

Yep. Clear up till the time when he isn't. The risk is worse for older pets.

  • This is a well done, informative video. I give it 5 stars and an extra one for cuteness!

  • I have had 2 dogs that have had reactions after getting the rabies shots. The vets never say it's even possibly due to that-they say perhaps a spider bite for one & possibly a tiny vessel that burst in the heart of the other one which died. I am scared to death to have my dogs get this shot-what can I do. In my state it's law to get it every 2 years!

  • GREAT, I LOVE MALTESE.

    VICKI J FELMEY

  • Vets I think sometimes give a shot more if they can for more money. Banfield (w/ petsmart) said I had to give my cat another 1 year shot instead of the 3 year shot because I was three months late. Find a vet that doesn't ask you to run a hundred and one tests. Stay away from Banfield. Booo! (and please make sure you get all your pets vaccinated as required by law)

  • I think what you need to understand is that a dog or cat must first have a rabies vaccine then one year later a booster. Then they are good for 4 years unless local law requires a 2 year booster

  • Actually, shots are good for 3 years at most. In some locales, only 1 or 2 years.

  • You are incorrect if you're talking about the US. The rabies shot is good for 3 years in most locales or 1-2 years in a few places.

  • Great, highly informative video. Watch this and support the Rabies Challenge Fund.

  • My 4 year old Westie boy developed aggression and behaviour problems after the one year booster rabies vaccine. Had I known that the one year shot is EXACTLY the same as the three year shot I would have NEVER consented to that vaccine. Knowledge is power and is the only thing we have to protect our beloved pets. Do your homework and support the Rabies Challenge Fund.

  • Hey everyone who has a dog or cat! This video is great and has critical information in it that is vital for pet owners to use because our pets depend on our brains to take care of them...so I filled my brain with this info to be a great pet owner and havae healthier pets. Thanks from me and my pets.

  • I wish that I hadn't had my elderly dog vaccinated. She was dead 10 days later.

  • 5 star video. Finally a K9 tells everyone the dirty little secret. Guardians this is must see for the health of all of our pets

  • Great video, I posted a link on my Facebook page too and will share with friends on email lists.

  • This is a great video, and such cute stars! Lots of information too!

Thanks! I am posting it on my MySpace bulletin board!

  • Please share to get the word out!

  • My puppy suffers from autoimmune-mediated polyarthritis, which flared up much worse after his first rabies shot and almost killed him via a 106.6 fever leading to convulsions. Now he is on prednisone indefinitely, which controls it, but lowers his general immunity and could predispose him to other complications. Scary stuff for an 8-month-old dog.

  • Prednisone killed my dog, slowly wearing his kidneys down over the years. Second to least series of doses STILL no outward signs but the last series sent him into kidney failure FAST and extreme behavior change. This vet NEVER said anything about it being hard on kidneys. WHAT GIVES VETS RIGHT TO HIJACK OUR DECISIONS BY WITHHOLDING INFORMATION FROM US? Find another way to control it. Research immune system building nutrients and nervous system protectors.

  • Rabies vaccines can also cause problems in cats. I have one whose suffered for years with a messed up immune system that was probably caused by overvaccinating before I got him from the shelter and a second cat who got such a bad reaction they had to give him cortisone. Every animal lover should support the Rabies Challenge Fund

  • OUTSTANDING information on the rabies vaccine which could save your dog's life!! If your veterinarian hasn't told you what Chiclet's video does, then you need to find yourself another veterinarian!

Visit THE RABIES CHALLENGE FUND website also.

    Thanks, Chiclet!!

  • It's always about profits, isn't! Think of the amount of money saved if you only got the minimum shots required, and not what the industry recommends. Great video!

  • This is a very informative video to watch. I hope every dog lover out there gets to see it.

  • Thanks for the helpful information. I can always count on Chiclet to keep me up to date on the latest and most important issues facing Dogs! Great job, Chiclet!

  • This is an EXCELLENT slide show. I lost a beloved dog to vaccine-induced hemolytic anemia. I was assured that "killed" vaccines were safe. Unfortunately not.

  • Informative, funny, well done video about a very serious problem. Send it to your friends who have dogs and cats. Pet owners need to be informed and this author and her research are credible and backed by expert veterinarians. Her book is good too. Good job.

  • Chiclet has a great point! Well done. I hope Jiggy appreciates all you do for him.

  • Thanks Chiclet and Jiggy!! You are the best. Our Mom wants the best for us too. We are getting our blood titred this year to avoid the shot!!

    Thanks again,

    Katie and Rusty

  • We're glad Chiclet keeps trying to get this info out to pet lovers everywhere. Thank you!

  • Excellent Video.

  • Important information to share with other dog and cat owners. Support the Rabies Challenge fund.

  • Thanks Chiclet for keeping this VERY important issue out there for our human friends to see!

Our mom stopped making us get our annual shots a long time ago and we're doing just fine! We get annual titer tests for everything we can . .and as for the rabies shot, our wonderful vet says we shouldn't have it anymore cause we are seniors and wrote a very nice letter to our city telling them so!

Like your mom, our mom looks out for us too!

  • Thanks for your fun and informative video on over vaccinating, we believe in this cause. Our state only went to the three yr. a few years ago. Both my babies have liver issues. They are being treated in several ways and I do administer a super milk thistle supplement. I recently read to double their dosage on days they receive vaccines. I'll be trying it for sure! thanks for your crusade!

  • Great, informative video...too bad she's talking to us like she's reading a book to a library full of little kids.

  • My dog Peaches developed a disease diagnosed by Dr Morris DVM@UPenn. It is called Rabies Vaccine associated Ischemic Vasculitis. It is an auto-mmune disease. It is critical that we prove the duration of immunity of the vaccine.

    Thanks Chiclet!

  • Here something you didn't know.

The tests you mention were derived from titers testing, this test only shows if your body is actively fighting a virus in the blood cells, it does not test actual T or D cell memory it is claimed that scientists don't know how to test cell memory. With gene mapping, human body part reproduction, growing a functioning heart from scratch, I don't believe that there is no way to test cell memory. One shot immune for life just like in humans.

  • Thank goodness someone still cares about this issue. I know it w/take time and persistence, however, I think it's worth saying over and over!

    Thanks for caring!

  • Once again, that smart and sassy news reporter Chiclet exposes another medical dilemma that plagues our animal companions—vaccines are being shot too often! In fact, the current 3 year rabies vaccine protocol will prove to be unnecessary once the rabies vaccine challenge study is completed.

And by the way...if your vet insists on the need for annual booster vaccines, hang on to your wallet and look for a smarter vet!

  • The Pawz Cauze gives you 4 Pawz Up AGAIN you cute little girl!!!! Pawz Up, Leigh

  • The April 2008 edition of Dog World magazine has a wonderful article on this subject. It isn't only rabies that we're overdoing, it's all the vaccines. A very easy way to ensure that your dog is still immune before vaccinating him again is to have the doctor do titers. It a simple blood test that shows the immunity level of all the diseases we vaccinate against. If your dog is still immune, you don't vaccinate. It's not cheap, but it's worth it in the end.

  • Thank goodness for Jan and Chiclet for once again informing us how to be health advocates for our furbabies, who cannot speak for themselves (Chiclet excluded, of course!).

  • Just as we need to be pro-active regarding own health, so it is with our ever-trusting, child-like canine companions. Too many "special interests" too often, determine the outcome of our dogs' health. Thank goodness someone, Jan Rasmusen and Chiclet, are exposing the possible risks to puppies and dogs for all the loving pet parents who want to do the right thing. Thank you for speaking out on what has become a hot topic in dog health news.

  • What a great video! I can't believe what our vets aren't telling us. Please send this to everyone you know to help them protect their dogs.

  • This is amazing, I didn't know any of this...And it is fun to watch because it is done with the perspective of an darling little dog who scores major points with this dog lover!
