  • i really don't get why the fuck these people are laughing so much. he is trying to be serious here, and they don't seem to get that.

  • Watching one of the biggest libtards in the country grovel was fun.

  • This "gentleman" is an American entertainment icon who proved coming clean early, fully, clearly and humorously is indeed the best course of action. . . .

  • i respect Dave for confessing the affairs because he was NOT obligated to do so. after the arrest, it could have been totally swept under the rug, but then the women involved would've went to the tabloids or blackmailed him as well. SO, this way was probably the smartest thing for him to beat them to the punch and to retain damage control.

  • Dave has had several serious issues with deranged people. The woman that broke into his house and claimed to be his wife, a man who planned to kidknap his son and this guy trying to blackmail him. I am sure there are lots of things that we don't know about. Can't always be easily to be rich and famous, everyone wants something from you.

  • nice guys finish last, these days girls screw the guy over before they even get the chance to cheat

  • I like how all these comments are about how stupid the audience and Americans are. It's as if they didn't understand that Dave was telling the story in a specific way to make it seem somewhat humorous. It's as if they didn't understand that a lot of the applause for him was because he confessed to it.

But since English isn't the first language of many of the people commenting on here, I guess I can understand that...

  • You know he formulated this as if he were setting up a joke...that's why the audience keeps laughing. They are not sure until near the end that this is not a joke. But you can tell he is really nervous.

  • a please tell me all americans aren't as stupid as this audience, are you all really this braindead?? The guy is confessing his "sins" and the audience is just laughing at/with him... just wondering... applauding when he says he has had sex with those women, good for him but the poor guy is being extorted...

  • Im not a huge letterman fan, but i must say that by doing this you have to have maaaad balls - and for that i respect him!

  • i hear he did schafer also

  • Clearly this audience doesn't know what's a joke and what's not.

  • LETTERMAN IS A BOSS!!!!!

  • I guess the audience is used to the lighthearted nature of the show and are simply expecting an elaborate joke. Also, laughter is infectious and creates hysteria. David was very brave but also a little shrewd by inserting his own brand of humour throughout in order to get the public on his side. At the end of the day (God I hate that phrase) no one likes a blackmailer, no matter who's the victim.

  • yes obviously the whole situation is wrong and nobodies praising him for what he did its how he handled it as soon as it broke he went out and admitted it, theres nobody in the public eye that has or would do that

  • Damn! This guy is good. He actually made me feel sorry for him, and turn against the blackmailer. lol:)

  • I respect him that he decided to do the opposite of what most people would do in his situation, but it's still a kind of disturbing story.......

  • All I wanna do is listen to his story but keep getting interrupted by the obnoxious group of audience members who can't keep themselves from laughing at things that clearly aren't meant to be funny. He has guts coming out with it all, we can give him that, but the audience is just dumb.

  • i think he comes off pretty well here, personally

  • great for being honest. clearly his audience is numb and just laughs and laughs. i bet these women aren't laughing. tells you something about his audience.

  • Sarcasm in all seriousness at its finest.

  • FUCK YEAH I DONT KNOW THIS DUDE BUT RESPECT HAHA

  • sucks to be the blackmailer, he thinks people can be blackmailed so easily and get easy money.

  • what;s with the "OH NO" at 1:57??

  • @tro0llgores HAHAHA yeah, why does it sound so close xdxd

  • So much respect for Dave after watching this

  • I have more respect for him since he was a man and admitted it.

  • You can tell he is really nervous.

  • Comment removed

  • i dont know why these people are laughing.

  • @hellica210 David Letterman is a comedian.

  • @hellica210 The are from the US?

  • @hellica210 shit audience

  • @hellica210 I can answer that. The warm up comedian instructs the audience to laugh and clap at every punchline the host says to make good television. The audience are told they are not just an audience but part of the show. So while to a sane person laughing at the bullet points would be crazy. A studio audience is coached and conditioned before the show to respond with a laugh and applause no matter what. Even if he admitted something like a murder they'd still laugh and applaud.

  • @hellica210 wtf else can u do?? if u get all quiet n shit, it gets mad awkward

  • @hellica210

They are laughing because hey have been programmed to laugh.

  • @hellica210 They mistook him for Andy Kaufman i guess

  • #1 some posters are saying this all happened before he was married. (the sex) If it did, then that still makes him a heck of a liar to his girlfriend. #2 I saw no mention of it being pre-marriage, nor have I heard from any of the other women. He makes his living airing other peoples dirty laundry and making fun of it in public...reap what you sow Dave. #3, who said sex was ALL that this guy had evidence of? I have a feeling there will be more to come as the women speak and this goes to trial..

  • Sure, Dave showed poor judgment fooling around at work, but it's hardly "shocking", as the headline would have us believe. I still love Dave.

  • i dont get what the big deal is.

  • This isn't a "bombshell". Theres nothing shocking here. Letterman showed a lot of balls coming forth like this to diffuse the situation.

  • So, what did he do that our politicians haven't done?

At least he was honest about it.

  • Wow everyone makes a big deal. People have sex, if they didn't we wouldn't be here.

  • He's a slimeball who judges and ridicles others. That's why he did not marry his child's mother for so long. He was too busy having affairs with his employees.

  • i think the audience took it well

  • The audience doesn't seem to see how serious this is. It's kind of sad.

  • Actually, they do toward the end when he leads the audience to the serious part. You just have to watch it through to see how he does this and how the audience responds. At first, he is silly and self deprecating which is comic genius and then he moves onto how scared he is by the extortionist and the audience stops laughing.

  • David Letterman has always been a class act. I am HAPPY that he was having sex with those women.

People have sex with each other.

So what? Pull the crucifix out of your ass

    and face reality.

  • so he's married

  • As of March of 2009 he got married.

  • I stopped watching him a couple of years ago. Mean-sprited. Angry. Petulant. Just not funny anymore.

  • I'm behind you Dave. Bravo for coming clean.

  • How many employees did he screw? Answer: well... he boinked a few interns, but he screwed everybody

  • I've been a HUGE Dave fan for 25 years, so I respect the guy anyways, but seeing him fess up and make public these embarassing situations just makes me respect him more. IT DOESN'T MATTER what that he "had sex" with these women, that's NOT the point. He stood up like a MAN and confessed to it!! How many other celebs would do this on a national level? Not many... Most celebs would just SUE.... get MONEY for the things THEY'VE DONE....KUDOS TO DAVE, YOU RULE!!!

  • @twistedhippie you are a fucking tool

  • @dazebhen1 ......highly intelligent response, my friend. go back to kindergarten and start over.

  • Actors are all phoney's and they all suck

  • David is not an actor, he is a comic. Actors have to be real or they cannot fool the audience into believing how they feel in front of the camera. So, telling a story to sell movie tickets requires being real. I guess if you had a son who said, I want to be an actor when I grow up... You'd be a dream stealer, huh.

  • David Letterman is an absolute freaking genius!!! Amazing damage control...OMG!

  • Dave's a playa!! hellz yeah! :D

Dave you friggin rule and we're behind you, man.

  • WHY ARE PEOPLE LAUGHING?

Letterman's public has proved their stupidity?

  • You can see he is shaking at 2:51 when he says "Immediately". His left you're right hand.

  • people bang people at work all the time....whats the big deal? cause he's on tv...so what he's human......this shit happens all the time....if u care that bad about sumones private life u got issues an should seeking sum help

  • True!

  • dave is a pimp!

  • You can tell he is shaking at 2:51, when he says "Immediately".

  • What shaking? I didn't see it. What I saw was a man who was harassed and stocked as a celebrity in the past by others as well. A woman who broke into his mansion on several occasions and a man who was a painter on his property threatening to kidnap his son... I'm surprised you don't see him as a very strong man to put up with this shit.

  • props to dave

  • It's not that big of a deal! I like Dave!

  • If you dont want people to laugh and applaud, then why thell the stupid story?

  • He is a comic, he wasn't really serious when he timed his remark about "Why are you laughing?" It is a comedy. That's why the audience showed up. To see comedy! He also made up the term, "Horrible things" it is in his own words not what was actually in the envelope he turned into the law. Plus, he wasn't married until March of this year and never cheated.

  • Comment removed

  • Sycophants. Why do they keep laughing?

  • Awesome.

    Dave's career is over.

  • No it's not....

  • Not a chance.

  • not at all! he got out in front of the story and took ownership of it. people will just chalk it up to a man being a man and that'll be that. guarantee it.

  • what he did was ALPHA!

well, not cheating on his GIRLFRIEND (now wife)part, but coming on the show and telling all his millions of viewers the truth. He could have payed the guy, I mean, what is 2mi to Letterman?!

Now we have a bunch of crying christians saying shit about the "sanctity of marriage and bla bla bla", the guy wasn't even married at the time ffs

    you go Dave!

  • this mudaafacka is more full of shet then Bret Farve!!!!

  • Brilliant PR move by Letterman. The idiot that tried to extort money from him had a poorly thought out plan born out of panic. He needed money, needed it fast and wasn't thinking rationally.

    It's what desperate people do.

  • Or, this guy wasn't desperate, and was plain greedy... And deserves to be someone's bitch in jail because David wasn't his first victim.

  • This audience is a bunch of idiots. I could see a small amount of chuckling and clapping at first when it was unclear whether this was just a joke. But, clearly they don't have a clue which doesn't say much for Letterman entertaining a bunch of idiot trained seals each night. It also is similar to the Michael Richards attempt to explain what an idiot he had been at that comedy club and people just kept laughing. Also, you can protect your family next time by keeping Mr. Johnson under control.

  • davidm1952, he wasn't married nor had a family when he had his sexual encounters. He is protecting the names of people who don't want to be in a screen play or a book. David didn't get married until March of this year. He is being self deprecating when he said "terrible things" in his own words as a joke because he is a comic. People laugh at comics and are thinking people, not trained seals. Free thinkers often seek comics not politics for entertainment.

  • He did cheat. He married his long-time girlfriend in March, but he's been with her for decades.

It doesn't matter though. Let he without sin cast the first stone. I'm just saying

  • I agree, the majority of people who accuses him does the same or even worse things. Let Letterman continue with his briliant career!

  • Cheating is when his girlfriend didn't know about it, so how do you know she didn't have boyfriends while they lived together? Happens all the time, so... Whatever.

  • As a European it is so bizarre to read the reactions from the 'moral majority', GOP oriented, double standard practicing folks to such a display of bravery and backbone. You know, those people may not be able to see this clearly and will undoubtedly be outraged by me, but in reality they are perfectly identical to the conservative Iranians they hate so much. Think for a moment, or longer if you need it, and inevitably you'll come to this conclusion. Their purpose? Awakening progression.

  • He was banging women who work for him. What a pimp. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong.

  • he wasnt married to his wife......

  • Had UM......

  • im just glad i dont watch him anymore, he isnt funny..

  • That's gonna cost ya Dave. The divorce I mean.

  • Nicely done, Mazzjohn! Just the clip sans any comentary! Kudos!

I think Letterman handeled it well, and the audience's responce was appropriate. Keep in mind they didn't go there expecting to have things get heavy.

Also, face it, Late night talk-show hosts arn't really held up to a high moral bar in the first place. If it shocks/offends you that big celebs aren't saints, then you really shouldn't be watching TV, or using the internet.

  • Are the audience stupid? Clearly, his story turns very serious and turns into blackmail, yet they're laughing?

  • Oh man... You can't read social cues in people's behavior? The audience is used to David Letterman as a professional comedian. He is a COMIC. They thought he was joking at first and his demeanor is what makes him so charming to his fans. It is self deprecating and that behavior makes me laugh at him, too. Can't you see that? Are you blind?

  • A comedian can't be serious? His story gets very serious and scary, but they're laughing and clapping. Dave even asked "Now, why is that funny?" at 7:10. Yet they still laugh and clapped. Duh. I'm blind for having some common sense and respect for someone's confession?

  • now dave and clinton could make a movie together

  • MARRIAGE... OVERRATED

  • Yes, yes Dave was very smart to do this - so what!! He still cheated on either his girlfriend or his wife. Yeah, way to go Dave, you're the best! What a great guy. Bunch of idiots on this thread.

  • No, he didn't. He didn't get married until March of this year and she had been around the block like he did. He is 60 plus and she is older. It would be different had they been teens just out of church, but these are worldly people who have both had consenting sex with other partners before agreeing to get married in March of 2009. You are the idiot because he is not admitting anything, listen to the guy, he is talking about being the victim, here! Why are you not mad at the extortionist?

  • What Letterman did was nothing compared to what most of you do with your lives. I wont even mention your crimes against nature, but if u want to confess here before I reveal it, you are welcome, And your dog wont mind.

  • the black mailer gonna rot in jail, and be the woman of Bubbah . Yeah.

  • That's what I want to see. More comments from people who are pissed at the black mailer.

  • PEOPLE, he wasn't married until March of this year! He did not cheat!

  • While I don't condone Dave's behavior, I appreciate the fact that he was man enough to admit it. Better to diffuse that bomb before it goes off. And, by the way, everyone should stop condemning the audience for being amoral because they weren't sure what to make of the speech at first. Put yourselves in their shoes. Oh, yeah and per these You-Tube comments, it appears that you morally superior-folk supposedly are grammatically and punctualtionally inferior. (or just intellectually inferior)

  • Dave now needs a nickname... how about "Dirty Dave"

  • I am not a Letterman fan...I think Late Night TV is vacuous.

However, I think this was a very smart approach to dealing with situation from a public relation point of view as well as a personally courage act by Letterman. If having sex to someone you are not married to was a criminal act most of us would be in jail. He was threathened by a scumbag to make public personal information and he turned the tables. Letterman is NOT the bad guy here, the scumbg that tried to blackmail him is.

  • Shouldn't talks how hosts be limited to one on air apology per year?....Oh yeah, that wasn't actually an apology last night. was it?

  • Comment removed

  • The audience is so stupid and immoral its crazy. I stopped watching Letterman a long time ago. Not funny to me, and a creep

  • "Wow, what a class act! OK, he may have cheated . . . " huh? where do u people come from?! Cheating is classy? Anyway, it's obviously more than just consentual sex between 2 adults otherwise the guy wouldn't have tried to blackmail him. What a bunch of naive saps you people are. There's obviously A LOT more to this story.

  • cjhodges14, he was not married and did not cheat. Why are you and everyone assuming this shit???

  • What a JERK! I have to say it's a bit typical. He has a child without marrying the willing woman and FINALLY cuts her a break and marries her but cheats on her the entire time with whoever will have him. No one would have him at all if he weren't rich and famous. What a giant JERK ---!!!!

  • did he actually say he had sex with any woman while he was married?

  • 13triki, you are embarrassing yourself...

Listen, we don't know enough about the circumstances. Let's not jump to any conclusions.

And I fail to see where he disrespects the women he slept with. He even says that it's their decision if they want to go public. Remember, it was, as far as we know, consentual sex, between two grown adults, and we don't know the timeline in this.

  • boelle, it's like people can't see that David is a 60 plus year old man who had a bi-pass and can't get it up if he tried, plus he never married until March of this year. I just think people have never watched his show and then jump on this commentary section on youtube to spout out their naive view of their world.

  • Did he threaten the women's jobs unless they had sex with him? That is the one question I haven't heard answered yet.

  • First of all dumb asses,he was not married until recently,so the worst he did was cheat on a girlfriend.Second, who cares? If i watch his show its becasue i think he is entertaning. How can any of you people care about the private life of someone you dont even know?I dont care about his sex life, and anyone who does,or has an emotional reaction to this is a very sad, pathetic, disturbed person.

  • Wow, what a class act! OK, he may have cheated, not so good. But this took a LOT of courage and should become a textbook model for how to handle such a situation. I hope his ratings go up and he keeps his job forever.

  • Dave is sick, chek the Gwen Stefani Hollaback Girl performance, ffter the song, look at Dave hand holding hers, he try to touch her pussy, Gwen is trying really hard to push his hand forward, she try to to let go but she can't, then Dave pushed back and touch her again, then he kiss her hand.

My friend at CBS told me this, Dave do this a lot with many guests, he love young girls, he is a pervert.

  • The audience was obviously a bunch of amoral dimwits.

  • Maybe he did rape

    Palin's daughter

  • I definitely wasn't expecting constant laughter and applause during this........

  • Who's laughing now? Not Letterman's wife and son. Letterman is finally getting a taste of what he dishes out every day. What comes around goes around ...

  • Ok where in the Blackmailers hand book does it say take a personal check. lol. was this guy born yesterday? yea this is a sad and funny case. And somehow the late night comic comes out having more integrity than the average politician. this tape should be sent out to all the politicians in Washington.

  • the greatest talk show host ever.

  • He admits he cheated on his wife and everyone laughs? way to go people.

  • I still like dave better than leno.

  • HE WAS WORRY ABOUT HIS FAMILY????

imagine him so worry about his family seating down getting a bj!!

  • With all respects, I wouldn't really being talking about this much just yet. We do not know the whole time line of events surrounding this. The show itself has been around since 1993, his son was not born until what? 2003-04? He didn't even marry his wife until this year. Not saying what he did was right, I'm simply saying do not blow off his concern for his family as a display. Plus we do not even know if he was doing this when he had his son and wife.

  • The whole show has been around since 1982! He was a young, handsome, charming gap toothed man who any woman that like humor and fun, probably wanted to suck his dick, too. So what! He never cheated on his wife and didn't get married until March of this year. He is not confessing nor apologizing.

Listen to him again, he is telling the audience that an extortionist wanted to reveal who his past sexual encounters were in a screen play or a book and he wants to protect them, not himself.

  • Hmm, while it is disappointing to hear good ol' Letterman apparently cheated on his family (the greatest tragedy here), I wasn't holding him to a higher standard. After all, he is just a talk show host. If he were a politician, this would of course have turned out differently. A double standard perhaps, but that is reality.

  • The hypocrites on the right should take a lesson here. If you get caught with the perverbial pants down...ADMITT IT. Own it. Don't blame it on a wide stance., don't create phony press conferences, don't ask your wife to humiliate herself at said presser...OWN IT, take responsibility. (Disclaimer: ALL typos are to excused. I have a cast on my right arm...If you don't like it...pix off..Thank you and have a great day!)

  • I don't recall him saying he did it when he was married. Maybe he did!!!

  • Time wounds all heels.

  • What is up with the audience? they clap and laugh at EVERYTHING-even when hes serious. Anyways, the mans completely overrated and not funny in the slightest.

  • letterman's nuthuggers are brainwashed that's the reason of their obnoxious behaviour.

  • cnn reporting: Letterman was banging the same woman the producer used to bang. so he got pissed and tried to get back at this shethead. Motto is: be careful who you bang!!!

  • USA=strange country. Great, but strange.

  • Amazing the arrogance of this SOB. 1= He opts to $#IT on everyone women he slept with, no consideration for them all, and restores a false fact=that we men(all of us) are pigs!

2.Tell the whole world, women are F$D and SO WAT!

3.Smart SOB kills 2 birds with a rock, this confession (he thinks) clears him of any wrondoing brought by one of this lovers!

4.Shows he does not have any seldrespect,as a man, as a husband, & professional.

5.Many people wonder now, if their loved ones where F% by him

  • Bitchbots said Letterman would be taken off the air 4 months ago. But instead, his ratings skyrocket and Female Jesus Bailin' quits.

Republicunts hate gays one minute, the next minute they're outraged at men who bang broads like Clinton & Letterman. What he fuck is with you weirdos?

  • Palin123Sucks, I don't really know what Palin has to do with this story. However, the fact that you've actually spent time creating a username and account that reflects your disdain for Sarah Palin and your mentioning her in your comment on this subject says a lot about you. You're a hate filled moron with nothing to do.

  • I bet Sarah Palin is getting a good laugh out of this one

  • did he get fired>?

  • You know what I'm glad he admitted it so that makes a better person for telling the truth. B4 it all unravles.

  • " Rio In 2016 Baby " !!!!

  • Good for him turning in the scumbag extortionist.

Whatever we may do in our private lives, this kind of blackmail attempt is reprehensible. Maybe Dave acted beneath the morals of certain segments of the public, and that's fine... but any citizen who has committed no actual crime should well and rightly be protected from people seeking to capitalize on a scandal.

  • Good on Dave for coming clean. No ones is perfect. Its not like hes a axe murderer.

  • What needs to be remembered here is that he's a public figure, a celebrity, with his own television forum. Knowing of what's clearly going to appear in the media outside of his show, he did what was probably expected of him: come clean just as it begins to blow up.

If the news hit the papers and the syndicated TV media shows and he didn't say anything about it, it would be perceived worse than as it does now. His personal issues aside, using his own show to "come out" was a good move.

  • he should go on leno and apologize. lol what would your mom think dave????

  • Well, at least he didn't dope up a 13yr old girl, sodomize her and get away with it. At worst Dave was unfaithful to someone (maybe) and guilty of sexual harassment. At best the blackmailer is so fucking stupid he is funny; that is why people laughed.

  • Very true, but Letterman and the blackmailer are both Douche bags. i didnt know weather to laugh or to cry. laugh at Dave for having to admit his shit stains, or to cry that the Blackmailer didn't get away with it.

  • Letterman you are a Pig. What's the Wife have to say about your "Little Story"

  • Good Point about his wife.

  • Unfortunate events, but for a comedian- he shows a lot of class. People in the audience were a bit callous, and I think he felt as if he needed to joke his way through, but that IS what he is after all, a comedian. He never claimed sainthood.

  • Many people, His wife, kids, the other women etc. are going to have live with and deal with this thng for a long time. Dave has, for his own pleasure, hurt alot of people. Shame on you Dave for making light of this serious issue.

  • He was in a committed relationship with a woman that he went home to most every night. And he difiled that relationship by going outside and getting his jollys with other women. The biggest problem that I have isn't that he did it. "God will judge him for that, not I" the problem that I have is he took this entire thing and made it a big joke.

  • First of all to all you who love to point fingers at us Conservatist, Fundementalist, Right wingers, Shut up! you call us hypocrites, all the while you sit there and do the same thing. Fact of the matter is, we all are hypocrites in some fashion. As far as Dave. Yes he did do what a lot of other people do on a daily basis.

  • No, you're hypocrites because you do it and then rant and rave about how wrong it is for other people to do it... that's what makes you hypocritical. The leaders of the Clinton impeachment effort were almost all shown to have engaged in extramarital affairs and lied about them. And then you have Ted Haggard, and David Vitter, and Larry Craig... and on and on. We don't care about your affairs, though--we just want you to stop preaching one thing and then doing another.

  • Bravo, Boris!

  • He's so glib in confessing his sexual escapades with his female employees - like that's some sort of joke when there is nothing funny about it.

I feel sorry for his son, his wife and his mother.

It's really not surprising coming from a guy that didn't marry the mother of his only son until five years after the boy was born.

NBC really made the right choice back in '92 when they gave the Tonight Show to Leno instead of this guy.

Leno went on to trump in the ratings for 17 years.

  • BCTGUYLook,if he didn't pressure the female employees,he didn't do a damned thing wrong. You think modern women are Sweet Polly Purebreds needing protection from Snidely Whiplashes?

  • Comment removed

  • Again, he wasn't married until March of this year. He didn't have any cheating affairs whatsoever! The extortion case is that this ass hole was going to reveal who he was with and so he went to the law to protect his past relationships. It's the extortionist who is the scum bag, here, and people are assuming that he forced women to have sex with him? Please...

  • MRBRISCOE - It is not yet known IF Letterman pressured anyone but IF the powerful media mogul boss expressed an interest in having sex with an employee, that's all the pressure it might have taken to make insecure women comply.

Assuming you are a guy who is married OR involved with a woman and jokingly announce you casually had sex with someone else, see how that goes over.

Married or not at the time these liaisons happened, Dave was living with Regina Lasko since 1986.

  • And Regina Laskow has been around the block, too. Over 20 years as best friends and then deciding to get married in March of this year was a decision based on raising a son.

  • Dave became my hero when Madonna gave him her undies. :D
