How old was Frankie Manning in that interview and when he was dancing with that young gal? He could move pretty good for someone at that age. I saw him a few times, but have never seen him dance.
FrankieManning's funeral arrangements. They are as follows: Saturday May 2, 2009 Mount Morris Ascension Presbyterian Church 15 Mount Morris Park West/122nd St/5th Avenue Viewing @ 10:00 A.M-12:00 P.M Service begins @ 12:00 P.M
Thank you Mr. Manning for your contributions to Art and Entertainment. Your talent opened doors, and helped people see beyond boundaries, barriers and differences to the one of many commonalities all cultures share: A sheer, undying love for DANCE!
I saw a fella get a presidential award from Clinton, when Pinetop Perkins got his award. Was travelin with Pine at the time. Is this the 94 Y.O. that you are talking about? It was around '98 (or so) ..and this guy was DANCING- on stage! He told me he was the inventor of Lindy Hop,and was introduced as the inventor.. a real angel of a man, very sharp and friendly!
I wish Jitterbuggin had been part of my life/generation in Philly. All I knew was that my mom used to do it. Nobody I knew back then was into it. It just wasn't a thing.
And now it's revivied and I don't have the legs or stamina for it. But I can watch and enjoy! :D
Anytime I am down in the dumps I just watch this over and over again, recall meeting Frankie, and that makes me feel high and happy again........

The last bit of this actually made me cry. How wonderful to see young kids dancing with their elders and learning a fabulous dance from them.
