Nobody takes into the consideration that statistics say whatever you want them to do to the file drawer effect and different ways you can calculate statistics. This chick has no problem in stating that the statistics that show the benefits of circumcision are wrong but fails to critically evaluate some of the claims she is making, (Most U.S. doctors are ignorant... and have little to no experience with foreskin) generalization or scientific fact?

The point is the human issues are everyone's issues, whether we like it or not. An infant boys foreskin would not exists without a woman carrying him in her womb. Yes, men do get to have a say, actually the largest say, in birth control and abortion issues, and women often have a say in what medical procedures her infant son under goes.

What can be said about female circumcision can likewise be said about male circumcision.

That is not to say male circumcision isn't sometimes needed for some rather rare physiological adnormality.

Europe has never adopted routine circumcision as a necessary procedure, and when a circumcision is performed for medical reasons, the numbers are incredibly low in comparison to the numbers/percentage of US med circumcisions. This make the US doctors look biased toward circumcision or incompetent.

I have long referred to America as the land of mutilated men because it's true. It is such an obvious harm to a person to cut off part of their genitalia that it is mind-boggling that it ever became commonplace. How America treats its men has never been an important issue to Americans, so maybe it's not surprising. I have noticed forever that treatment of women that would be considered abhorrent is routinely accepted when directed at men. Sex discrimination in circumcision is just one example.

Since fewer and fewer boys are no longer being circumcised pretty soon "not fitting in" because they are not circumcised is no longer an issue. Pretty soon the boys who are circumcised will be in the minority and they will be the ones that get teased by their intact peers.

Most hospitals collect the foreskins and sell them to either the cosmetic industry or for tissue harvesting. Indeed, Oprah pushes a face cream with ground up foreskins as an ingredient ... touts it as something that helps keep her face young.

By pulling the skin back, it still does NOT look like a circumcised penis, so a teenage boy (or any guy) cannot simply pull his skin back to "disguise" his status.

You'll still be able to see all the extra skin bunched up underneath the head and it does look VERY different still from a circumcised penis.

I had it done at age 21 (almost 22) and am 25 now... no regrets, wish it was done sooner!

All girls I've talked to prefer circumcised anyway.

If you were circumcised at 21, you probably had a foreskin problem. But circumcision is rarely necessary, since less invasive means exist to correct foreskin issues. Foreskin performs an important sexual role. Just about all European guys want to keep their foreskin. To me, a circumcised penis looks damaged. The USA prefers what is unnatural.

It really depends on how long your foreskin is, or was:(. I was able look cut by pulling the foreskin back, my foreskin is average length. I showed this to several cut friends recently and they could not tell.

I was embarrassed by this in my early teens, but later I became glad I was different in that and other ways, it taught me a valuable lesson about nonconformity. I'm sorry you did not have the same experience, and presumably let others opinions guide your decisions about your body.

As a person, I'm all about equality of men and women. As my mind developed in the last several years I noticed moments of inequality in out society. Circumcision is one.

It makes me wonder why we, especially Jews, do not circumcise girls but do boys. And when I mention that people always think of genital cutting like in Africa - not the same.

Actually only 50% of boys attain retractable foreskin by age 10 and the other 50% become retractable between age 10 and the termination of puberty. Otherwise, great work!
