way back long time, 1st time in Boston,MA,singer did a radio interview on WMBR. and he said that all the lyrics on this album are not directed anyone, except himself.this song was played on that show and I still think RLYL made a lot of great music.
title track from the incredible 1985 release from Red Lorry Yellow Lorry. In a year that saw several brilliant new albums by Sisters (First and Last and Always), The Cult (Love), New Order (Low Life) and others, this stood tall along with the best of them. Even though RLYL continued to release great material after this, Talk About The Weather is my favorite of all of their albums. Not a weak song in the lot. To use the term "huge influence" would be an understatement here..
do you remember when you would discover a band like this with ambiquous artwork on the album and all you had to go on was the music itself and your imagination to get a picture of what they looked like or what their image was like? Or do you remember being wasted on whatever your drug of choice happend to be and staring at these covers for hours trying to figure out what they were and seeing all kinds of trippy shit that you cant see now because you are sober?
The Lorries played in Tijuana in 1989-at the latest "short term" happening place at the time. Probably had indoor fireworks as well. Just a crazy period, and a great show!
Great and deep stuff, long live Lorry, unique, embracing, I'm so soaked to the skin of Red Lorry Yellow Lorry ... Thanks for posting it and for the lyrics.
RLYL wrote and performed many beautiful songs, some 80's hits. in my opinion they sound similar to Sisters, but have own personality and charisma. talk about the weather is a masterpiece.
Alien Sex Fiend?? Not as good as Alien Sex Fiend? They were nothing but gimmick, these guys were the real deal. I woldnt classify Xymox in the same catagory (but I have their cds). Sisters of Mercy & Bauhaus, Ok, Ill give you that one.
The Lorries were the shiz, my uncle introduced me to them a year ago, I tell ya, a 17 year old Red Lorry Yellow Lorry going into school with Train of Hope as his ringtone. I love ASF, but I agree they were basically 'the batcave cabaret', I always more of a Specimen fan :)
probably their best ever track although monkeys on juice is another classic.saw them live many times, such power and pure amazing guitar, big black copied them for sure heard they toured recently??
take the next one you really get a thing for out into the rainy middle of nowhere and see what happens. maybe play this on the way, maybe just run it through your head. i promise that with the right sort of partner, it'll beat the hell out of dinner and a movie.
spent many a happy hour battering my teenage brain with this album. had the pleasue of seeing them supporting killing joke at newcastle mayfair in the late 80's: superb.
So much talent ! Selfishly I am glad they weren't HUGE because radio and the superficial media would have destoyed the dream and taken them away from the real fans.
You know what? I just heard these for the first time...and I LOVE THEM! Makes me yearn for an era I couldn't be part of...I was definitely born in the wrong decade!
RLYL have been gigging on and off in the UK and some EU festivals since 2003. Chris Reed also plays solo gigs, which usually feature really, really powerfull semi-acoustic versions of RLYL songs.
The first two albums certainly sound even more like JD than Interpol do. And that is no bad thing.
Chris Reed hasn't lost much of his edge, dispite the years. Catch the Lorries if you get a chance and you probably won't be disapointed. They still belt out hard, two plus hour sets with a snarl.
