Hey man, great job. What set your video apart from others is that you showed how e can progress into the slide, instead of trying it straight up. This really helped, because I knew how to do the push up slide, as it made it so much easier!!!!!!!!!
@ZeusLongboarding Thanks dude. My slides weren't the best at the time but i figured the progression would help a lot of people understand the basic motions.
Awesome video! I haven't tried the first two slides you recommended but when I've tried my standup I have yellow stims and just cant seem to get all the way around, I can manage to get halfway though. Is some of it getting your wheels broken in?
@zzz4488 yeah once they're broken in it will definitely be easier, but orangatangs pretty much come broken in. how long is your board? boards with longer wheelbases are definitely harder to get all the way around for backside 180s.
@pmmets07 Yeah, well I mean on the edges where I have gotten some movement are smoother than what seems like the ridges they come with.. and I've had some homemade, good quality boards with just not a lot of concave so yesterday i picked an Apex 40DC. Would the addition of more speed help get me to the full rotation? I've commented on several videos trying to get the advice and I really appreciate you helping me out!
@zzz4488 no problem dude... i know how frustrating this stuff can be. speed will help, but i learned this slide on flat ground at first. make sure you carve really hard into this slide and with most of the weight on your front foot, kind of whip your body in the direction you want to go and really push back with your back foot. it may help to hang your back toe over the front edge of the board. visualize yourself going all the way around and landing in switch.
@jhweed1 make sure you're not pushing downwards too hard. that will make it harder to push the board OUT for the slide. you don't want too much weight on your back foot, as most of it should be on the front. let me know if this answers your question.
@xRainDragon Ah dude it's awesome to hear stuff like that! Learning standup slides is tough but I'll never forget the feeling when I landed them clean for the first time.
@TheAdventuresClayMan i'm no expert but when i was having that problem i tried for like 3 days and couldn't get it to work. I realized i never expected to make the full 180 so i just kinda believed i could do it, and i when i slid i turned my head the direction i wanted to go and the board finally finished coming all the way around. So just turn your head all the way your trying to go and you'll probably make it
@kjkj1002002 Then you arent a longboarder!!!!!! I fucking love that sound, and the sound wheels make when carving, but not sliding, maybe you should go watch your ghetto tricycle movies, and stop bitching!!!!!!!
but one Q- does it make it easier if your board is really loose? I ride mine pretty loose, but it could be moreso, and i was just wondering if it makes it even easier. ive got the heelside standups but have been having more trouble with these..
@sweetXroll It might help a bit if your board doesn't have much concave. Just because you'll be able to carve harder into it. My new board that's stiff with a lot of concave lets you lock your feet in, so it doesn't take as much effort on the carve to really swing the board around. But my friend who used to ride Original trucks (really loose compared to standard trucks) could do 180 standups way easier on them. Hope this helps
@Johmeyful you don't need gloves for the backside 180 standup slide, but if you want to learn using the process i describe in the video you do need gloves. plus it's always a good idea to practice with gloves so you don't cut up your hands if you fall
@tommy235689 i'd love to review the board. that will be my next video. and i paid about 240 for the deck with trucks (no wheels). but it's so worth it. i've ridden my friends' dervish, tan tien, bhangra, apex 37, and a bunch of others and it's bar none the best board out of them. it's so versatile. i would recommend getting it with Randal 180s (they're my favorite truck) and then flipping the hangar on them so it's lower.
@pmmets07 oh, i always thought since your toes are like in the front it would be frontside and since your heels are in the back it would be backside. But whatever, i learned something new today.
@stoppre7 what i usually do is either a body varial or do like a cross step thing where u piont ur now front foot strait forward then step in front of that wit ur now back foot then take ur regular back foot and put it in ur normal riding position and ur now ridin regular and it looks cool. helps if u can cross step
nice vid, this is alot more helpful than other standup 180 tuturials, which are mostly 13 year olds trying to show everyone they can do a standup slide! as you progress you should make more tutorial vids. check out my channel.
@merks91 much appreciated dude. you're slides are real steezy in your newest video. i just bought some abec 11 freerides with the classic thane and hopefully their slide much better than the shitty S9 wheels i'm using in this.
@dirkblake13 yeah dude i appreciate it. the video was probably a bit dry at times but i know how hard learning this slide can be so i wanted to explain my method.

wouldn't this be frontside?

@MidNCSkate nah, toeside = backside, heelside = frontside.
frontside means that you can see in front of you during the spin, and backside your looking behind you. kinda confusing
