I agree with you, the singing you used should be the original sound without tempering, that way the "SOUL" of the singing is not changed just for the sale of audio quality. I know most of early recordings of great performances are not hi-fi, and many soundtracks are damaged, but that do not reduce the emotional impact of the artistry.
