The umpire called what is known as a "Fuck You" call. Clearly we haven't seen everything that lead up to it but if the umpire has to explain that it's a FU call then he didn't do it right because the coach wouldn't be arguing about it if he had. Generally once an umpire does it if anyone argues they get tossed immediately for arguing judgement calls.

You can say things like the umpire is a disgrace or like politicians, but they have the say on the field. If you disrespect the umpire, this is likely to happen. You cannot do anything about it, and chances are, their partner(s) in the field will back them up. Any umpire will do this if provoked. The best way to prevent this is to just respect the umpires, and don't blame them entirely when it happens.

The way to properly handle the situation is this: Calmly explain to the coach what happened. If he sees your side, you then change the call since you were the one in error. if he continues to berate you, you eject him. If he continues after the ejection and refuses to leave the field, you let him know that the ball game will called and his team will lose by forfeit.

I umpired high school baseball for ten years and once I admit I made a bad call. The first pitch of the game was right down the middle of the plate and I simply forgot to say Strike. The catcher moaned like this is going to be a long day then I realized that I forgot to signal and say Strike. I then hoped the player would make an out so I could tell the catcher of my mistake. Well fortunately for me he grounded out and I told the catcher that I blew it on the first pitch as I was sleeping.

I have a buddy who is an umpire in the Eastern league "AA" and this stuff happens all the time!!! They start calling balls when there strikes on purpose because they feel the hitter is showing them up! I literally got into a verbal argument 1 time, why not just make the damn right call he got pissed at me, and 2 nights later he got fined for calling a strike 3 on a pitch that was at least a foot outside. He was unaware of a centerfield camera. I rag on him to this day about it!
