  • Lost his hat lol.

  • The 1995-1996 was definitely the apogee of fighting for Sabre fans.

  • Brad May was king of the rink back then.

  • .... sabres ♥

Rob Ray was such a Beast!

  • @ElephantseatShorts Ray wasn't a beast. He was a cheap-shot arist who had no respec from other fighters in the league because he couldn't fight fair. When they made the rule for tie-downs, get what? He got his ass handed to him more often than not. That's not a beast, that's a bully. And not even a very good one at that.

  • @stevedrums ray was not a cheap shot artist. He has no record of cheapshots so i dunno WTF ur talking about. Also, EVERYONE was using tricks back then. Barley anyone tied down, people like churla and mcrae used velcro tear away sleeves, mcsorley used an oversized jersey with a loose neck, probert was always shirtless, brown altered the sleeve of his punching arm etc. Ray was a punching bag his first 4yrs in the league. He was still clocking giants after the tie down rule. And he wasnt even big

  • @buttkick22 You are right about Brown, McRae et al. However, the fact remains that they still had jerseys to grab on to. Ray had his so it fall odd immediately. It was unfair and it weas cheap. You can frame it any way you want and you can also select others and their habits for justifying his wrongs. However, in my book he'll never be regarded (in my opinion) in the same league as others from his era like Kocur, Vukota, Probert, Baumgartner and others.

  • @stevedrums Yea but if guys considerably bigger than u are "cheating" you gotta' do soemthing to even it out lol. He def took it too an extreme, but he was still the biggest punching bag in the league his first 3 years. After the tie down rule, he was still TKOing giants. He wouldn't have lasted over a decade after the rule if he couldn't fight. I'm not saying he was top 10 all time or anything. But he could take and throw a punch as good as anyone. And please don't name wrestler vukota lol.

  • @stevedrums You demonstrate your hockey ignorance by saying that Ray was a cheapshot artist. He was a fighter but was never known as a dirty player. Also, he won many, many fights with the jersey and without. Just search for Ray KO's and then come back here and apologize for your stupidity, son.

  • anyone who lists craig coxe as a tougher guy than larry playfair clearly has no idea what they're talking about. That's borderline retarded. Pretty much sums up ur whole argument so far though...

  • gillies was one of the baddest dudes ever yet his career fights are lower than larry's and he wasn't fighting nothing but top tier fighters either. So i guess by ur flawed logic gillies isn't top 10 either. See how that works?

  • in 72 career fights gillies has 7 losses. In 117 career fights Playfair has 8 losses.......playfair afraid of wilson? That's laughable. People were scared of playfair not the other way around. Did u really just name chris simon? Get a clue guy.

  • @buttkick22 Playfairs fight card is not that impressive either. Who did he beat? Chris Nilon was a punching bag. The fights with Winsink aren't on tape so it's just opinion. To be considered in the top of some list I'd think you would have to beat some one else on the top of that list. And the fact that the tape is over 25 years old is important. You are dicounting all the tough fighters that came after that time period you idiot.

  • @harwicke It doesn't matter is it was 25yrs ago. Fact is, he was considered to be heavyweight champ at the time. You explain to me how many guys (cairns, mccarthy, wensink, secord, ewen, simon, berube lol) were considered to be the champ? You claim he hasn't beaten anyone yet i pointed out a shit load of people that u named tougher than larry already beat. Some more than once. You can google. interviews where guys like wensink and tochett talk about the beating playfair put on them. Top 10 easy.

  • considering he handled guys like secord (he beat him 4 times yet u named secord as tougher lol) Wensink (u named him as tougher and he beat him 3 times in 1 game lol) plett (u named him tougher but larry beat him everytime they fought) Tocchet ( u named him tougher and larry beat the crap out of him) O'reilly a couple times, davesemenko, nilan a couple times, kluzak, bob mcgill a couple times, todd ewen ( u named tougher) and basil mcrea (u named him tougher) then yes i think hes ahead of brash

  • @buttkick22 Your man crush on this guy is really queer. Give it up. He's not all time top 5, or top 10, or top 20.. He was a top 10 maybe during a very short time period. That is all. He didn't fight enough. He didn't take on the known top guys like Fotiu, Wilson,Probert,Kocur,Brown.Grimson.. The real tough guys he did fight, ended in loses or draws.

  • @harwicke I give u stats that ur clearly unaware of and u make a gay joke. Great job dude lol. Didn't fight enough? Well then i guess gillies and Fotiu aren't that tough according to u. Besides Behn Wilson who the hell did fotiu beat? Look at his fight resume, guess he's not that tough. Playfair never played 1 game against probert and grimson's rookie yr was playfair's last year in the NHL lol. I'm not surprised u didn't know that either considering u thought playfair was KO'd by Kocur hahaha

  • @buttkick22 You just proved my point you retard. Your Gay lover NEVER FOUGHT the best of the Best.. So HOW THE FUCK COULD HE BE IN THE TOP 10 Or (laughing) TOP 5!! ALL TIME AS YOU STATED. I REALLY THINK YOU ARE JUST TOO DUMB TO TALK TO. PLEASE LIST YOUR TOP 10 ALL TIME, I NEED A GOOD LAUGH. KEEP POSTING DUMB ASS. Playfairy top 5 ALL TIME!! HHHAAAA!!

  • @harwicke u named lyndon byers as tougher yet playfair beat him and byers admitted that playfair was the only guy he was ever truly afraid of. You list Fotiu as 1 of the toughest ever yet u never answered my question about who he's fought/beat besides Behn Wilson. Seriously, how often did gillies and fotiu fight? What big names did they fight and beat? Answer me that.

  • @harwicke yea i thought u would dodge my question yet again. I accept ur surrender. Peace.

  • Ok I'll make this easy. YOU said he was top 5 ALL TIME. I'll give you 30 names. YOU show me who he is ahead of.. OK? - Brashear, Laraque, Probert, Wilson, Brown, Kocer,Gillies, Johnathan, Orr, Booguard, Godard, Simon,Berube, Odjick, Beck, Coxe, Cochrane, Clark, Ewen, Grimson, Cairns, Parker, McRae, Crowder, Chara, McLhargey,Fotiu,Richter,Domi,Belak,Sandy McCarthy.

  • @harwicke he's def top 10 and in my opinion he's top 5. I would put probert and brown ahead of him for sure. Nobody has guys like cairns, mccarthy, coxe, ewen and orr in their top 10 lol. Watch playfair vs higgins and listen to Don Cherry. Also in 1 of the tribute vids, the commentator for the other team says "Playfair is the current heavyweight champ and has been for some time now". Like i said, easily top 10 and i have him top 5.

  • @buttkick22 OK so you think he's ahead of Brashear? ha ha ha. You think he could handle Booguard? or Brown? Ha. Godard would break his face. Laraque would throw him around like a rag. Berube has a fight card twice as long as Lps. Chara would destroy him. Gillies? No chance. He was afraid of Behn Wilson. How about Kocur? Simon could take him no problem. There is 11 right there no room for larry! The fucking commentators always say that shit. plus, that clip is over 25 years old!!

  • @harwicke you literally just proved my point for me with the people on ur list lol.....clark gillies only had 72 career fights so i guess according to u that means he wasn't really that tough. There's a reason why guys like gillies and playfair didn't have as many fights. It was because no one wanted to fight them. The commentators on that vid are for the other team. Very rarely have i heard rival teams commentators praise another team's enforcer. The clip being 25yrs old isn't a relevent point

  • @buttkick22 Besides a bunch of nobodies like Nilon, Zanussi, Robertson & Markwart. Top guys he beat are Plett, Wensink & Semenko. (He beat a 18 year old rookie Tocchet). Great! That is about it. Other top guys he fought: Lost to Nystrom, Loss to Mcsorely, Loss to Holmgren Draw with Byers, Draw with Ewen , Draw with Mcrae. So he never fought Brown, Wilson , Probert, Kocur, Johnathon, Gillies,Berube, Beck, Clark, Crowder But you some how have him in the top 5 or 10..You use zero lodgic

  • Don Cherry is a known idiot. How about Larry Robinson? Sandy McCarthy,Tim Hunter There's some more for your list.

  • Don Cherry hated the sabres and he is on a youtube video calling Playfair the toughest guy in the NHL 4 years running. There's a reason why guys like Gillies and Playfair didn't average as many fights as other enforecers per year. Its because no one wanted to fight them. They were murder........he also beat tochett pretty bad in their fight. He fought Plett like 4 times, Plett didn't win any. Get a clue dude.

  • @buttkick22 Secord, Hoyda, Jay Wells, Dave Richter, Maley.. Here are some more guys you think Playfair is tougher than. Wow, you must think he's superman. To me all these guys could beat each other on any given night. Ranking them is pretty stupid.

  • @harwicke Secord has 1 "victory" (i use the term loosely since it was a tainted "win". The linsemen got int he way much to wuick) and 4 losses against playfair hahahahahaha. Again, get a clue. Obviously ur biased or have something against buffalo or playfair. He's easily top 10. He only has 8 losses in his career (if u count the secord fight). Probert, Kocur, Gillies, Brown, Playfair, etc. were in a league of their own. FACT. Stop naming people Playfair already beat more than once lol.

  • @buttkick22 Gillies lost to ORielly so I guess by your lodgic ORielly should be in the top 5. MclHargey beat ORielly, So I guess he should be in the top 5 as well. Holmgren beat Your boy Playfair, so I guess he goes into the top 5 as well.....Boy, that top 5 is getting real crowded and you haven't even got out of the early 80's yet. Your whole premise is ridiculous. Graig Coxe dropped Kocur, so I guess Coxe would be above Larry as well. Don't you see how dumb your rankings are?

  • @harwicke u named people that playfair beat more than once. He beat secord 4 times and wensink 3 times in 1 game hahaha. Try again junior. Actually, don't. You're just embarrassing urself.

  • Don Cherry once called Playfair the Heavyweight Chmpion of the NHL...

Forgotten Buffalo tough guys: Kevin Maguire, Mike Hartman, Gord Donnelly, Lee Fogolin, Rick Dudley.

  • woot go sabres

  • The fight-strap ruined the game of hockey.

  • what's that song at 3:12

  • who cares about your tickets and your name is on the Cup? TOOL

  • Yeah, I have been a season ticket holder to the Pens since 1969 but I guess I am just a bandwagoner. Oh by the way how many Cup wins do the Sabre's have?

  • toughest sabre was playfair. ray and barnaby were just circus acts.

  • NOPE

  • pound for pound, hands down Brad May was...Im a lifelong Sabres fan andd Playfair never impressed me..Barnaby was a punk and I wished hed have gotten his ass kicked more. Ray was tough and would fight whomever for his team, didnt win all the time but give credit. Boughner was tough as well

  • @Hockeyguy17 playfair never impressed you? Really? Toughest sabre ever and is on everyone's top 10 all time list. Most people's top 5.

  • @buttkick22 What??? HAAAAA. Top 10 ??? WHAT! HAAAAA! He is not even in the top 100.

  • @harwicke I'll take former players/coach's opinions over some random youtuber who is probably biased over yours. Even if u don't think he was top 10 (which he is), saying u wasn't even top 100 is just plain ridiculous lol. You lost any sort of credibility after that statement.

  • @buttkick22

Here are 40 guys I can think of off the top of my head who are better than or at least as tough as Playfair.

Brashear, Probert, Dave Brown, Behn Wilson, Kocer, Clark Gillies, Holmgren, Plett, Laraque, Colton Orr, Booguard, Chris Simon, Berube, Belak, Odjick, Beck, Cochrane, Coxe, Joe Patterson, Rob Ray, Ewen, Wendel Clark, Byers, Tocchet, John Scott, Grimson, Wensink, Kordic, Semenko, Eric Cairns, Scott Parker, McKay, Engelland, Kurt Fraser, Chara, Troy Crowder, McLhargy, McSorely

  • @harwicke Hahahahaha. That's list is histerical. You know playfair beat byers right? You know Byers said Playfaiur was the only guy he was ever truly afraid of? When Gillies was asked how he and Playfair never fought he said "When Playfair's on the ice, you don't mess around". Wensink!?!?!?! Playfair fought and beat wensink 3 times in 1 game lol. Rob ray (and all other sabres alumni) concede that playfair is the toughest sabre ever. That fact that u have engelland and mckay on ur list says it all

  • @buttkick22 Idiots like you who make lists, and think they know something is what's truly comical, and kind of pathetic. As far as Byers goes, how do you figure he lost that? Draw all the way. And comparing players from different eras is completely useless. To say Playfair is #5 or #20 means you have some way of deciding something that is impossible to do. And means you leave dozens of guys off, that you know are just as tough. Anyone of these guys could beat playfair and you know it.

  • Pens don't even have their own fans, just bandwagon faggots.

  • Thanks!

  • I miss the old aud...

  • two of the games worst fighters. Ray could only win a fight by taking off his clothes, and barnaby just tapped guys on the side of the head and thought that it did damage. these guys would get the shit beaten out of them by todays enforcers.

  • Are u kidding me? Watch some of Ray's fights with his jersey on. He had several great KO's and TKO wins and he bloodied several opponents. He could win with or without the jersey. Barnaby was one of the most willing fighters to ever play and he fought everyone despite being smalller then most of them.

  • show me one fight where he knocked someone out with his jersey on and ill believe you. ive seen him have good even fights but never a KO. as for Barnby he just hugged for a couple minutes while his opponent tried having a real fight. then barnaby waived off the refs when he knew they were tired and then started smacking the side of his head. Be honest, ray decent with jersey on, but barnaby was a joke.

  • @sabrz Rob Ray was a sham and an insult to thsoe who actually cared about their craft in regards to that part of the game. It took NO GUTS to deliberately strip your jersey and pads off so that your opponent had nothing but skin to grab onto. Then to wave your arms to the crowd like you actually accomplished something was just as disgraceful. You'll notice that after the rules changes regaring jerseys & tie downs that Ray rarely if ever wona fight. What a joke!

  • @stevedrums Actually, Ray won MORE fights after the jersey rule, because he had to learn how to fight better.

Also, is it HIS fault nobody copied his technique?

  • shows how much you know rckdrummer. If you honestly think that, you're far beyond stupid. Ray had close to the most tko's and ko's overall.

  • with his jersey off dumass. you call me stupid and cant even prove it.

  • I'll prove it. Go to my videos and search for Rob Ray KO's. I have a couple of videos where he knocks opponents out with his jersey ON.

  • nobody needs to prove anything, you're just stupid and don't know anything about hockey.
