  • I thought that Jerry Goldsmith's theme felt like returning to a long lost love while Micheal Giacchino's theme felt like love at first sight with a sense of some whoop ass tonight.

  • This is excellent! I liked much of the XI score, but this scene in particular was really lacking the emotional impact it should have had...it *should* nearly bring you to tears!

  • This just ruins the scene. The XI score > this.

  • THAT'S a score, dammit! Giacchino's score was alright but not very memorable, not compared to this at any rate!

  • I thought it was nice :)

  • I like it. It felt right. To AndycorpPro, at least give the youtuber some credit for being creative, even if the editing wasn't the best in the world. I like the original track to this scene a boat load, but this was awesome as well.

  • @psxwarrior Strike the part about the editing not being the greatest. It was an incredible edit.

  • shit. complete shit

  • @AndycorpPro You're talking about Michael Giachinno's score,right?

  • this is not better >_>

  • While I dearly love Goldsmith's theme it was written for a time when movies were made differently.

  • Michael Giacchino soundtrack was really dissapointing????????????????? dude? it was beautiful.....

  • If only Jerry Goldsmith's theme was in this movie.

  • I mean, really, disappointing? Who would you have compose the score?

  • When you compare it to his work in Speed Racer & Up!, I think Giacchino played it safe for the most part on Star Trek. That said, it has its moments of pure genius. The new Star Trek theme is triumphant, the Vulcan theme is haunting, and he takes a page from Goldsmith and makes the main theme the theme for the Enterprise. No one will ever top Goldsmith, but Giacchino is the best film composer of his generation.

  • @LloydJazZz You do realize that the theme from TNG is actually from TMP, right?

  • i like the end credits theme the way it combines old and new very cool

  • This makes me appreciate the visuals in the new film much more. Giacchino's score is typical programmatic, TV-thriller hackwork. The new composers out there are such hacks, mostly. Goldsmith would have brought out the emotion and sense of wonder I'm told that this film has (but didn't feel until I saw this re-mix just now).

    Nice job, man.

  • I agree that the new Giacchino score was typical of today's generic, TV-thriller, cookie-cutter scores. Goldsmith's had such feeling and beauty. I doubt today's young, zero-attention-span Lady Gaga and Drake fans could appreciate how well Goldsmith's music brings out the grandeur in even these busy CGI images.

    Sad.

Nice video demonstration, though. I'm with you 100%

  • @Nikatsu I can't tell you how grateful people like you exist! After reading the insane comments comparing favorably Michael Giachinno's pabulum to Jerry Goldsmith's genius it is reassuring to see good taste and discernment still exist.

  • The music is too light, doesn't fit the size or scale of the ship.

  • As much as I love Jerry Goldsmith's score, Michael Giacchino 'Enterprising young men' which plays in this scene of the movie was perfect!!!

  • Man, if I had seen it like this in the theatre (and I did really enjoy this movie), I would have had major goosebumps. The "scene" as I call the "viewing enterprise/departure sequence" from TMP is the best part of that movie, and had wonderful music to boot.

  • I bring a message to all hate what YouTube is becoming. I hate the new appearance of the viewing system, I hate the reorientation of the video selection, comments, and description system, and most importantly, I hate the new rating system. I will spread this message everywhere until the designers of YouTube will concede with my complaints and restore it all

  • Don't listen to these guys that say it's not good. I think this video was awsome!

  • @LloydJazZz How is it not fitting?

  • You simply cannot beat the power and emotion of Goldsmith's score or James Horner's, for that matter.

For Goldsmith produces a huge win for not just the entire ST:TMP soundtrack, but the opening credits and the Klingon battle scene that it effortlessly flows into.

Horner just nailed it with the ST:TWK soundtrack that fits like a glove with the movie. And in ST:TSS? Who was not on the edge of their seat as the Enterprise was leaving space dock?! Thank you Mr. Horner!!

  • I would have preferred some music from Star Trek II. The best Star Trek score ever.

  • I really liked the new music, it was very dramatic, the old version of the Star trek theme is it past it's time for today, it doesn't fit in to this movie.

But nice to have a go and see what it would have sounded like if this music was used.

    Great vid.

  • Actually, Giacchino's score was one of the few things about the movie that didn't piss me off.

  • well that didn't fit. Like putting a polka band in the middle of a rock band

  • You can't call this soundtrack better when it's not as good as the one the movie has. It's too generic.

  • it's not generic. it's classic star trek. and fits the movie perfectly

  • @jlf2032 You could argue because Star Trek invented this style of motif ro sci-fi, you can't call it generic because this is the reason other knock-offs are generic.

But to the new modern audience, it is generic because it's everywhere. The new Star Trek theme is just what was needed to change that.

  • Willy, quite frankly, you're an idiot.

  • @Grimbot2 How? This score was decent for it's original use, but this is a different movie and feel, and this score doesn't hold up for what this scene demands.

The past is great and all, but there are times when new things actually are better, however rare they may be.

  • TMP theme will always be my fave. Though the latest movie score blew me out of the water. Ive probably listened to the STXI sountrack more times in a week than i have any other in a month

  • Ah, o vídeo ficou tri massa!

  • De fato, não gostei muito da trilha do Giacchino.

A trilha de Star Trek - TNG do Goldsmith/Courage é a melhor de todas.

  • I still think Giacchino soundtrack was too generic...

  • The soundtrack from XI was great....this music in this video...not so great. Hate to say it. Not being disrespectful...just not my cup of tea.

  • Ok.

    Thanks for commenting.

  • @SChaos1701 this is THE ENTERPRISE THEME (the ship not the show), you cannot go ahaed aand show the ship without its theme playing, to do so like J.J Abrams did is sacrilege against nature and he will have to pay for his sins against the Star t\Trek gods. You don't just throw out one of the most important themes just to replace it with a peice of crap!!!!

  • @SChaos1701 this is THE ENTERPRISE THEME (the ship not the show), you cannot go ahead and show the ship without its theme playing, to do so like J.J Abrams did is sacrilege against nature and he will have to pay for his sins against the Star Trek gods. You don't just throw out one of the most important themes just to replace it with a peice of crap!!!!

  • @amolchan001 You know that this is FICTION right?

  • @SChaos1701 I order you to get a soul.

  • @plastique45 I have one thank you very much.

  • Why use Next Gen music on a 'pre' TOS film? Your edit is good music (I like Goldsmith too), but it just doesn't fit.

I'm a Trekkie and I think the soundtrack for ST11 was awesome the way it was.

    2/5 for your vid

  • That was NOT Next Gen music. It was from the 1st Star Trek film which featured TOS.

  • Granted, but the general theme is more widely associated with next gen.

  • I agree with the engine room but the soundtrack was fine

  • Being honest here....30 years ago film music was somthing that could be majestic and inspiring....so much so that after watching a flim like ST TMP, the first thing you'd do is check if the soundtrack was in the stores. I think Giacchino is talented, but he's not ready to score this kind of large scale film. The score didn't make any real impression on me when I saw the film in the cinema. I had no idea of whether there were any themes or major motifs.

  • So...Lord of the Rings didn't have a majestic and inspiring score?

  • Giacchino surely is ready to score this type of film, and did it amazingly with Up and Star Trek. It's impression it made was what made the movie so memorable.

  • Dude! C'mon, at least you could have picked another cue.

    Giacchino's score wasn't bad.

  • Not bad, but Giachinno's music was what made this movie such a masterpiece.

  • Im a listener and this just doesnt fit into place! Its too slow for the action it just doesnt work! Ill give it a warp factor -10. The original score for the film does however especially when heard on the most power THX sound system in the world at Empire Leicester Square custom JBL Crown amps 56KW THX sound system!

  • Well, I like it, since it conveys a messagew of grandeur, but Giacchinos score convey's a message of majesty.

    But it's still pretty cool

  • Doesn't really fit the scene.

  • Not only does it not fit but you're silly to think that Michael Giacchino's score is anything short of awesome.

Jesus, why do trekkies have such an issue with Star Trek being exciting and watchable?

  • It was allways exciting and watchable.

It's just that the new movie was dumbed down enough for your imbecilic brain to comprehend it.

    In short, you're a moron.

    Have a nice day. :)

  • ... I'm sorry, I'm sorry; I should make it clear that I am a fan of the television series and, yes, of course I'd be a moron to think otherwise but you can't possibly believe the films were any good (apart from The Voyage Home). I mean Star Trek got very weak with them and It did take this film to remind us that Star Trek belonged to a medium of entertainment.

  • @Raymint That is not true, I liked the new movie, but I have to agree with the user that uploaded it, the music, was a little dissapointing, i thought overall it was ok but it probably would have been better with music from TMP or TWOK.

  • @startrekgamer Not only would the audience have found themselves incapable of watching the film on its own terms, but it would've done nothing for the sense of urgency J.J. Abrams was trying to create.

... It simply wouldn't be the same film.

  • @Raymint How do you know? If people enjoyed Star Trek back then, how do you know they wouldn't enjoy it now with the older music? It has never been proven that it wouldn't be the same, nor has it been seen by a test audience.

  • @startrekgamer Well on those terms, your argument makes no sense either. How do you know it will work? But we won't argue on those terms, we don't need to - I know because I understand film. Sound is about 75 percent of it and what goes into that medium makes for a about 75 percent of how the audience will enjoy it (if that makes sense). So the way you feel while watching a film is ultimately commanded by what you're hearing ...

Now from here on I'd rather refer you back to my previous comment.

  • @Raymint Speaking as a hard core and faithful Trekkie, I totally agree. I mean isn't Star Trek being exciting and watchable is what got us to watch it in the first place? Either when it first premiered or when we first saw it the first time?

It was only later when we saw more of Star Trek as to what it means for all.

  • @Raymint I don't know if they have any, but you have an issue realizing Giacchino is a video game composer of no talent whatsoever and his score was horrible. Of course this doesn't fit, it's not scored for it and it's not professionally mixed. It's still better than the actual score.

  • @Raymint It's because we're used to decades of utter shit; we don't know how to appreciate good Star Trek anymore.

  • Sorry...just doesn't fit.

  • the composition of this score was never really part of TOS. In reality, it was created for the first movie. The events in ST XI occurred before the original Motion Picture. Giacchino does honor the original series' music in the end credits, but apparently most people haven't figured that out yet.

  • He uses the TOS theme, but a little homage to Goldsmith would have been nice. Giacchino did a great job though. I haven't even seen the movie and I already love the score.

  • Isso é trilha sonroa de verdade!

  • No I like the way it is in the film better. Leave the old theme in the past.

  • Sad to say, I have to agree. This scene needed something different, and watching this made Goldsmith's score sound flat. It pains me to admit this, but this scene is proof that Goldsmith's music should remain representative of the old Star Trek.

  • @Coltfighter except that Giacchino used the theme from the old TV series....

  • Nice work! Score works well.

I actually really love Giacchino's score, particularly this moment in the film, but this is cool, too!

  • WOW! you made this video like the trip around the Enterprise in ST TMP: of course this is a great added value for this JJ's movie!

    Cute and brilliant idea! ^_^

  • Hahaaa :] Nice one :P

  • I agree tvTrequer. This musical score honors ST-TOS. Thus it is more fitting.

  • great :-)

  • ha great job!

  • Mmmm, I'm gonna have to disagree. The track that plays in the movie (Enterprising Young Men) was no dobut one of my favorites. The rest of the soundtrack was pretty lacklustre and I'm planning on recoring it, but I actually liked Michael Giacchino. Of course, he's no Jerry Goldsmith.

  • Good, very good.

    Q'pláa

  • Cool! Good Job.

  • Hmmm... Oddly familiar... : )

    Good one!
