  • this song makes me hard!

  • While the original is by far better, it was the Maiden version that introduced me to the wonderful world of Lizzy. Thank you lads!

  • Has NO groove ..wooden effort ..maiden butchered {massacred?} this classic .

    Bad .

  • Hell yeah!

Bet the Maiden lads enjoyed their asses off with that cover!

(except that Bruce can't do it even remotely close than Philo..)

  • Iron Maiden are not very good at covers. They play it well, but it just doesn't feel right.

  • What can't Maiden Do!!! Up The Irons! \m/ from USA...

  • Up the irons from finland!!!!

  • Thin Lizzy were such a fucking great band that influenced so many other fucking great bands and yet they still get no attention in the states. Fuck you Rock Hall for not Inducting Lizzy or Maiden. There's room for Madonna though right? Bleh.

  • @TallicLizzy HEY! I'm from the States and LOVED Thin Lizzy since I was 17! Got the "Jailbreak" album cover tattooed on my upper left arm when I was 27 and I still listen AND pass them on to upcoming musicians that I meet. So bullocks to your statement about the States! THIN LIZZY FUCKING RULES!! Fuck the RnR Hall of Shame for putting U2 in BEFORE Thin Lizzy! Fuck Bono! He should lobbying to get them inducted, he's said Live & Dangerous was the most influential album on U2. Pussy...

  • @MAXVelo1

lol. Well you're one of the few thousands in America that do sir. The only album that gets any attention here is Jailbreak and at times Live And Dangerous. They deserve more attention in the states. LOL! Fuck Bono indeed. xD What a bunch of crap U2 are. No Lizzy no U2. That simple. He said it himself.

  • @TallicLizzy And where is, "here".Talic...??

  • @MAXVelo1

The united states. Texas to be more specific.

  • @TallicLizzy Right on! St Loser, Misery here. Agreed on radio airplay, either Jailbreak or once in a GREAT while, L&D. What about 'Fighting'... 'Nightlife' (altho' I used to hear Showdown in my youth)... 'Black Rose'... What about 'Thunder and Lightning'? An awesome rock song that gets no airplay as opposed to the SHIT that passes for 'rock' these days. I've tried my best to educate my son, but unfortunately... it's spotty. Tried to have him sit in w/ friends to jam on drums, lost!

  • @MAXVelo1

I've heard The Pressure Will Blow, Bad Habits, and The Holy War on the radio before. I was quite astonished. And yea. Nada. U2, Coldplay, and other hooey pass for rock/hard rock nowadays. :/ Oh no. :o Don't lose your son to the likes of Lil Wayne and others. Just have good music on while he's around and he should pick up on it. :)

  • @TallicLizzy that's exactly what my dad did to me :)

  • Thumbs UP THE IRONS :)

  • i love Iron Maiden but original is better! watch?v=L8ZGXBSnFp8

  • Both drummers kick ass and so do both bands. Just enjoy them both.

  • UP THE IRONS FROM GERMANY!

  • Phil lynott will live foreva in our hearts and brains

  • this song is fuckign awesome zero zero zero zero

  • crazy guitar rythm.. \m/

  • Great tribute to the masters!!! Maiden on the edge!!!

  • We all love Bruce but Phil is just UNIQUE. The original is certainly better, though this is a fine try.

  • Always original versions are ORIGINAL and covers are not better than them anytime. But, this is wondreful version of the original song :))

  • vastly superior to the original. Up the Irons, and respect to TL

  • @ian436 granted, the production is poor, and the recording is rather bland. a bit like No Prayer for the Dying - over all, a fantastic album, with poor sound, poor guitars, and drums that sound like bloody card-board. dont get me wrong, i have the deepest respect for TL, just think Maiden are musically superior in every sense. personal opinion, really

  • @ian436 Brian Downey is highly underrated, but he is in no way better then Nicko

  • @MrShellschock

You obviously haven't heard Brian Downey play drums.

  • @Hellwyck you are obviously not a madien fan

  • @Hellwyck Both drummers are great..Thin lizzy is awesome no doubt..Iron maiden is really great as well...dont see anything to argue about..Peaceout

  • My opion but Lizzy's live version takes some beating!

  • Maiden could easily release a 10 track album of their best b-sides this one is up there on the list

  • @wumpscut1 they have a best of b sides album dont they....

  • @wumpscut1 uhhh.. they already did.. its called Best of the B-Sides lol

  • the original thin lizzys version plus dickinson imagine that shit man¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • Thin Lizzy is a great band, ans influenced MAIDEN a lot. Steve always said that Lizzy was one of his most influence.

I think MAIDEN's version far better than Lizzy's. But this is a opinion quaestion. The truth is that MAIDEN made a cover is the higher quality possible and with the most respect.

  • I LoVE IRON MAIDEN TUMBS UP IRON MAIDEN

  • UP THE IRONS FROM SERBIA!

  • @AnnaCatherineSRB ...Hell Yeah ! :D

  • aguanten los raros de Maiden!!

  • love both verisions of this song

  • UP the hammers.

  • Up the Irons

  • This song is just pure epicness!

  • Bruce, this would be a definate for any Irish Gigs!!! think of it, Maiden playing this WOW

  • wow this is amazing....

  • @lukevertiis

Nicko was also drummer for Pat Travers in the beginning before Tommy Aldridge

  • Not bad, but the original is far better.

  • Seen Maiden 5 times an I seen lizzy twice going to them next week in Dublin even Phil is not around Downey and Goram are stil unreal usually John Sykes does the vocals but hes gone.Love both these bands

  • thin lizzy and iron maiden two of the best bands in the world and top 5 of their generation

  • To hear an old-new Maiden song... wow, a nice present on a new year's eve! Happy New Year to all!

  • I Have Been A Diehard Maiden fan since Powerslave and I never knew they had this song. I feel slightly cheated lol

  • Sound very stiff to the original by Thin Lizzy. It's nice to hear top bands playing theirs songs.

  • Iron Maiden do cover like these to pay a tribute, not to outdo their band of influence.

  • One of my favourite Lizzy tracks. I like Maiden too btw,and this is not bad,Bruce in particular. However my immediate thought after hearing this is that it shows just how good Brian Downey is/was!!

  • this is awesome

  • The drummer just does not cut it, but a good attempt.

  • this wouldnt sound out of place the seventh son album. great cover

  • this is much better :D

  • OMW I had no idea this existed!

  • First time I hear this !

  • This really shows how much they are influenced by Thin Lizzy, if i didnt know this was a Lizzy song, i would believe it was their own

  • thin lizzys version is so much better... But this is cool...

  • this could be an iron maiden song ... it sounds so maiden !

  • Holy crap, i've never heard this!?

  • Huge Maiden fan but no one does this one better than Lizzy sorry fellas.

  • this sounds strangely familiar

  • I got Eddie's Archive. I found a B'sides collection in there. I'm looking at tracklist and what? Where the fuck is Massacre?! This shit doesn't have one of the best covers. Too bad 'cause I don't collect vinyls.

  • It totally sounds like a maiden song,not a cover :P

  • @Aarisure.... well that should tell you the influence Lizzy had on Maiden...Pick up Live and Dangerous..along with Live at Leeds and Strangers in the Night, the BEST live rock album ever recorded.

  • @flippyflyer yeah,i believe maiden themselves point out lizzy one of their major influences

  • @Aarisure Agreed. When I first heard Lizzy's version, I thought -- "Damn that sounds like Maiden' .. haha.

  • awsome music \,,/,

  • i gotta say i like this vers. better that IM did..sry this is my opinion...I just love bruces voice!

  • Like Lizzy's Live and Dangerous version a tiny bit better, but this is a great version for sure.Wish Maiden would do a live version of this!

  • Thank you thank you thank you for posting this awesome Maiden song.... I played this song I guess more than thousand times...! And still love it...!

  • well i just wish that shit didnt top the charts, Like wat do ppl like so much about spineless, talentless shit

  • I love Thin Lizzy and I love Iron Maiden. I love both versions but I hate YouTube pissing contests so don't waste your time replying to my comment because I will never read it.

  • one day im going to se a concert of maidn where 50 cent head is empaled hahhaa

  • own the single know all the lyrics but thanks, this single is the shit!

  • i think its better than the original you can hear the vocals so much clearer

  • omg i loveee iron maiden so much :D

  • UP THE IRONS FROM FORTALEZA, BRAZIL !

  • thanks man i've been having trouble getting some of their b-sides like this. stupid itunes

  • speed finger on bass steve is god !!

  • NA..... iron maiden's seventh son sound makes this better....

  • Apparently different worlds is a tribute to thin lizzy but its hard to tell, Bruce said it once or twice on interview and its mentioned on wikipedia.

  • Good cover version but not even close to the Lizzy version, Downeys drumming is way better for a start, and Lynotts vocals are way better too, both great bands tho....

  • Right you are!

  • AMAZING this is why i love iron maiden and thin lizzy

  • Thin Lizzy influencing Maiden doesn't change the fact that this cover is 10 times better than theirs...

  • The cover is good, but, nowhere as great as the original by the best hard rock band ever,

    THIN LIZZY!!!

  • hahaha I love u man! cheers mate

  • Cheers to you! Lizzy Rules!

  • @rockstarmoosegod No its not, Thin Lizzy's live version of this song is better by Far. Anyway its a great cover.

  • the charge of the light brigade, 600 unknown heroes...

  • @Whitesoxfan02

White Sox? You are a great person!!!

  • Thin Lizzy ok

  • Both Maiden and Lizzy are amazing bands, great cover.

  • Without Thin Lizzy there would be no Maiden...seriously, Maiden cites them as one of their absolute biggest influences. Great cover of a great song!

  • Yeah for sure. Where do you think Maiden's harmony influences have come from on the guitar lines.

  • @samborawakefield Not to mention, why do you think Steve Harris has a mirror pickguard... like PHILIP LYNOTT!! Can you imagine how many times 'arry saw Thin Lizzy growing up as a kid? Lucky guy...

  • @CursorWrathwind alot of bands cites Thin Lizzy as there influence

  • @CursorWrathwind And that can be heard. The twinsolo's.

  • I love Iron Maiden.. But Thin Lizzy's version is way better..

  • The Origninal is really kick ass!! But this song is really perfect for the maiden sound!! (Sorry for the English)

  • it definatly sounds like like it belongs on SSOASS... its got infinte dreams and prophecy tune to it

  • fuck you blaze was a kick ass singer

  • this song requires phill lynotts vocals but good cover still

  • Did they just forget to put this on 'Best of the 'B' Sides'? There would have been enough room on CD1.

  • Oh now I see... bonus disc. :S

  • Is this a cover or a maiden-song? Because I was wandering from which album is this song? (can't find the answer) :S

  • Its a cover, Thin Lizzy wrote the song its a good cover though.

  • It's a Thin Lizzy cover. The original is off the Johnny the Fox by them.

  • try Thin lizzy's album Jailbreak

  • hahaha fuck u stupid guy, its an Thin Lizzy song from album Johnny The Fox recorded in 1976

  • this is a cover. the song was originally done by hin lizzy and in my opinion is better.

  • really good cover, maiden and lizzy both rock

  • I like this version!! Thin Lizzy where the first and wrote this song... But see maiden's version as a marvellous tribute!

  • Come on! I found it rather stupid all this bs about whether Maiden's cover sucks or not. Would you just enjoy it? I'm an all-time Thin Lizzy fan, but bands like Iron Maiden are also part of those rock legends who made really great music, musicians you don't find these days among all the Britney Spears and 5O mother fuckin' cent crap.

  • @lagt001 But you and I know 50 also had his time of good music (back in the get rich or die tryin era)

  • @lagt001 RIP Phil Lynott (20.8.1949-4.1.1986) - true heavy-metal afro-irish head ! wont be forgotten

  • Harris is using power chords and all, brilliant

  • The bass just sounds BRILLLIANT

  • They're both great. Lizzy is one of my all time favorite bands. I think it's great Maiden covered it. Anything that keeps people talking about Phil and Thin Lizzy is wonderful. Maybe more people will take an interest in Thin Lizzy because of discussions like this and covers like Maiden's. I wonder how many more bands covered Lizzy? I know Metallica did.

  • helloween and sodom did cold sweat, and mastodon did emerald

  • Gary Moore, three-time Lizzy member, also covered "Emerald" on a B-side from "After the War," plus, he also did "Don't Believe a Word," w/ Phil Lynott. Plus, there's his Philo tribute DVD full of Lizzy tunes with Downey, Gorham, Robbo and Eric Bell. I was so pumped when Maiden did this cover!

  • didnt know about the emerald cover ill check it out

  • @radioboobs

Smashing Pumpkins covered Lizzy with Dancing in the Monlight,Def Leapard did Don't belive a Word. THe Cure did Don't Believe a Word too.I think Henry Rollins did Are You Ready and Motorhead did Roseale and so did Maiden too. That is all the covers i know about, there are probably more. I adore Lizzy and i am glad that Maiden paid tribute because i beleive Maiden are brilliant. i recommend you check these songs out. Long live Lizzy and the Maiden.

  • Also Europe did a tribute song to Phil, although not a cover its a pretty good song and real nice that they did its been banned from youtube though, They also did a cover/tribute of suicide with a heartwarming intro.

  • Doesnt matter bruce and the boyz do it maiden style!!! rip phil the real rocker :)

  • nobody compares to the chemistry, passion and energy phil and the boys bring to the stage there will only be one thin lizzy. maiden is a great band showing their respects the the pioneers of metal which is killer but i definitly prefer lizzy over any band any day

  • i like the maiden version better ..sry..

    UP THE IRONS

  • Aye, Bruce's peak in emotion generally relies on the music for an opportunity, while Phil's melodies were generally very dynamic in feeling, the song being a journey more than a maxed out sing fest. Love the Maiden, but I prefer Lizzy's version 8p

  • molto meglio l'originale

  • only maiden could cover this song with out making it sound like shit

  • on the last line iron maidens version is lay dead benieth the sand not lay dead in the sand. i must be soundin like a smart ass there but i just thought u might wanna know

  • Seems you're right. Changing it now. It sounded similar enough to the original line ("in the sand") that I assumed it was the same. Thanks.

  • @accurist94 your right man and thats not the only line they chaned.. i must say i dont like this cover but whatever.

  • love lizzy but this version is better..imo

  • I think you better listen to Thin Lizzy's " Live and Dangerous " version again then listen to this version ... Phil Lynott's vocals destroy Bruce Dickensons version ... I do like the guitar work in the Maiden's version but still prefer Scott Gorhams leads better ... Brian Downey's drumming is much better too ... lol

  • I do not agree! I have the whole album ( live and dangerous) at home and i love it..but i prefer bruce vocals..of course maidens guitar work is better and nickos drumming...without a doubt...

  • Agree to disagree ... lol .. Phil sings HIS song like he's watching the events unfold before his eyes ... I dont get the urgency in Bruce's vocals .. not on this song anyways ... I would like to hear a live version from Iron Maiden though ... Lizzy's got the win on this win , HANDS DOWN !!!

  • ye your definitely right about Brain Downey it changes the whole dynamic of the song without him,it is a decent cover tho but not as good

  • for got sake its about tribute from maiden tovards lizzy so its about that n ot who is better.i wish lizzy can tray play maiden songs and phill sing bruce style.r i p phill

  • if you listen to iron maiden's 1st 2 albums and any of lizzy's albums from 1975 onwards. u can really hear that lizzy sound in many maiden songs. especially in running free.

  • how awesome!!! shows what a CLASS ACT iron maiden is!!one of my fav bands ever! and just getting into Thin Lizzy...awesome rocking band!

  • It's Iron Maiden covering Thin Lizzy. It's about a great band showing respect to another great band. Don't worry about which version is better- enjoy them both.

  • Right On jasmoran66!

  • Definitely not at good as Lizzy's original, but I like it.

  • iron maiden r a gr8 band bt the lizzy version at live and dangerous concert is definitely the best version...phil's voice jst fits the song so well i cnt stop listenin 2 it R.I.P phil :(

  • thin lizzy version is far better ... Brian Downey is one of the most underrated drummer ever ... Lizzy and Maiden rule

  • no no no!!! Iron Maiden is undoubtely my favourite band but the Thin Lizzy's version is better.

  • I love both Thin Lizzy and Iron Maiden, but the the original at live and dangerous is the best version, the song needs Brian Robertsons wah pedal

  • When it comes to the Lizzy versions, I actually prefer the slower tempo of the studio.

  • This is a good way for some of you folks to discover THIN LIZZY.

  • Well its actually on the B-Sides of the vinyl

  • Yep. Obviously CD's don't have B-sides, but on the 1995 re-release they put it on the bonus disc along with some other covers.

  • OMG.... Thin Lizzy and Iron maiden are 2 of my fav bands,...never knew maiden did this cover!!...I prefer lizzys version on Live and Dangerous though!!! This has made my nite!! :-D

  • Great cover version, you can't beat Lizzy for style tho.

  • blasphamy!

  • Heya!!..If you like maiden and that kind of music, you have to listen to some Thin Lizzy....listen to the album...Live and Dangerous.....one of the best live albums of all time!!

  • one of the greatest bands in the world...time to meet them.

  • who is thin lizzy?????

thin lizzy are the band that revolutionized dual lead guitars in rock music,

without lizzy no maiden no metallica,

  • I think the song is good, but it doesn't run with the album's topic

  • It's on the bonus disc. Doesn't have anything to do with Seventh Son as such.

  • It's a great cover but I prefer Thin Lizzy's original, it's odd how much this song fits Maidens style, I wouldn't have thought so but they pull it off brilliantly.

  • Well one of Maiden's main influences are Thin Lizzy, along with UFO.

    Very similar styles and harmonies.

  • April Wine being one of Steve's, along with Golden Earring.
