It sounds like those at the nursing home were employing you under slave labor. I don't think there is a way around what is right and just. For from what I can see they make their own rules over there. Why can't your boyfriend come to a America or Australia where people are treated like people, not slaves.?? Doesn't sound quite fair of him not to understand your plight... hmmmm
what the fuck you are doing in germany? man i don#t understand it. australia is cool, english is cool, what the fuck you found here? german language sucks, german people too, germany is fucking fucked up.
i love english, it#s the most beutiful language in the world, and you have a very cool aussprache ;) fuck i don#t believe this. do you know how many germans want to live in australia? you can#t imagine, almost everyone who i know.
fuck i hate germans, i#m from romania , peace&freedom
I hope today finds you happy. It's so great to "see" you. If you're working in a nursing home for free... why don't you come here, live with us and care for me? It's a piece of cake compared to what you're doing now. (Cont.)
You could go to school full-time and it wouldn't cost you anything. Hmmmm.... Don't mind me, I'm rambling. Sorry you're having troubles. I hope things get better for you. Practice your German! :)
thanks I am sure it would be nice caring for you and very rewarding..also I have kids that live in america and grandkids...but I am inlove with a german man and want to be near him...so only can live in America if he comes with me...hugs
It sounds like a very rough deal if you are an immigrant like yourself working in Germany , Josette.... Britain would welcome a woman with your qualifications with open arms!!! : )I hope it all works out in the long run for you : )
Wow, I never heard of such a thing. I know you told me it happened once, but twice. ((Hugs)) At least some who know more about it are advising you. That's good.
like another user already said, it's common practice in germany.they employ people who with university degrees as Praktikanten and don't pay them.especcially with architects it's really bad.I've even read of some offices who want you to pay to work for them.they are popular offices and say that you learn so much there and you have their name in your cv that they say it's worthy.
and the worst thing is that people are doing that! i think everybody should say: no way! i don't want to be exploited like that. but the job situation is so tense, that people go for those chances and hope to get the job afterwards.
yes I also have a University Degree in Applied Science...Nursing...So how are auslanders expected to survive here in Germany?..or is that the hidden plan? we dont and we leave..is that it?...hugs
i don't think it has anything to do with Ausländer though they make it even harder for them. i guess you are allowed to work. many Asuländer who seek asylum aren't even allowed to work. it's so strange. they get money from the public admanistration and would like to work so they could be independent but they aren't allowed to. and so racism comes up, because some stupid people say, that asylum seekers take away the money from the tax paier etc. it's a sick system!
OK maybe I have it wrong then:I am not seeking asylum..I have a EU passport from Malta..but it seems that it is hard for me to gain exceptance here..even though I am trying to hard to integrate and become as German as my accent will allow lol..I love it here but want to be independent..not relying on the money from the public admin..and I do have a Beruf which is suppose to help...hugs
It sounds like a common practice over there to hire for free and get away with... I'm quite sure that is illegal here and they are taking advantage of the fact you are a foreigner. I don't believe you have done anything wrong.. this is how they operate, and perhaps they have to let you go B4 they get caught. Be interesting if they sign that letter.. that would B legal documentation.
I will find out on Tuesday the reason why they did not keep me on and yes if they write a good report about me and sign it..then I have proof that it was not a fault of my work..but they will probably say it is my language barrier...hugs
That just doesn't seem right. I could understand a period of 60 to 80% of full pay during training. But you have, in affect, been "paying them" with your labor. Is this place considered a schooling institution that's licenced to charge a fee for instructing and training? Isn't there a labor bureau over there that can advocate for you? Hope it works out.
Hmm. Just read the other comments and it seems like this Praktikum tradition is being abused over there. And an established tradition is always a tough thing to go up against in worker's rights issues. I'm very curious to hear how this turns out for you. Hope you do an update vlog about it.
The government here is paying me to live here..793€ a month, so I guess it is part of the rule..like in Australia.."working for the dole" but the point is..I would have earned more money that what the government pays me and would have liked a top up wage or something..hugs..but more frudtrating is the promise of a paid job and being let down twice now..that's more the abuse...
Thanks for sharing Josette, my favorite wine is the Australian shiraz bin 555. Good luck on your job, I know that would never happen here where I live.
thanks robin..yes I am planning to sort it out next week and get some clarity on the situation...hugs..Good old dutch courage with some Australian wine...
I can sense you are improving in your German. It is wonderful to see you again after so long. It does my heart good to hear you are keeping your spirits up, Josette. Hope things work out to your favor. Love, ~Darl
Thanks..maybe one day I will make a vlog speaking Deutsch...should give people a good laugh with my Aussie accent...but not yet lol...hugs and thanks for the good wishes.
Andymooseman recently vlogged about how English appears to be dominating other languages across the globe - guess you're dealing with that struggle from the opposite side so to speak.
Good to check in with you again after so long, Josette. Will be keeping my fingers crossed that this job situation irons out quickly.
At the moment this is a common but bad practice in Germany. They let you work for nothing in a 'Praktikum', telling you that they just wanna test if you are a good worker. And then when the Praktikum-time is over they kick you out and get the next one. They get good qualified work for free this way and I know of companies who nearly work only with 'Praktikanten'. This is really a big problem in Germany!
oh no..so there is not a lot I can do about it? If I refuse to work for free ot do another Praktikum will they stop the little money they give me here to live? My Bearbeiterin said I dont have to do any more...but that is not in writing...hugs
Also have your Zeugniss read by a german who understands the secret code in them. And be sure to have a open and honest talk with your Boss to see if anything is wrong.
yes I have german lady friend going to the meeting with me..although i did not tell my boss that she is coming..but the termin is with 2 bosses and that scares me as they talk fast and I dont understand..so I am going to say that it is important that I understand and she is my dolmetcher,,,hugs
I think Praktikum is like apprentiship here in Canada. Now, some places pay while others feel the value in learning is payment enough. Since you have already done lots of "practise" I think it's time now that you tell them that you will only work if you get paid for it since you have the practical experience now. Good luck with the exam!
Well, I can understand the German Authority's concern. I wish that our NHS will ensure that our fereignor nurses can understand English. I am at a loss that you chose Germany when you could have worked in England and be respected. You could have taken my pulse any time. Take care now.
Hi, thanks for commenting..I worked in Sheffield UK for 4 years before coming here and I understand you about the probelms with English there as I came across it a lot with the wide range of Foreign nurses there..yes Germany is far more strict than the UK, which is better in the long run for the patients..I understand that..but my point is..they let me work for free...why not pay me or tell me, I am not good enough for work and let be stay in bed lol..hugs
Did they say that it is a Praktikum? Cause with Praktikums it is a bit difficult with the money. Some people give money, some give another thing (I got a book when I was in a book Shop) and some give nothing. I don`t know if it is the same Praktikum cause it seems that yours was longer then my Schoolpraktikums. But some Bosses are nice and give money and some give nothing. So I think you made nothing wrong
I made an error in my video..First I did a Praktikum of 3 weeks full time and then I was asked back to the same place to do another 12 shifts over 6 weeks...but both times it was said that I would get paid work after it..but was never written into my contract....hugs
Without a contract it is really something bad about a paid Praktikum. Unfortunately it becomes fashion in Germany to let people work for a Praktikum and tell them then to don't need them and no payment.
Was it a well known organisation like as Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund, Deutsches Rotes Kreuz? Or a smaller organisation?
Tough break, sorry for your troubles. I hate the unfairness of things and it surely is unfair to do all that work for no pay. I hope things get better soon. Wishing you the best of luck and welcome back to YT.
Thanks Nancy...I must say though in defence of this country that; they have paid a lot of money and time in translating my papers from English to German and also paid for me to go to 5 German courses in order to learn the language. Also have given me enough money to just survive the last 2and a half years here.
Great to hear from you again Josette! =) I love the "Dinglish" term you came up with for the mix of the two languages, hehe, I always speak a bit of that after I've studied hard for a german exam. But I'm always sadly back to complete english after a few hours. I hope your work situation gets easier soon ;) Best wishes!
I am so sorry you have such a time in Germany. I really do not anything about Germany, and how they work in reference to employment. I can say based upon what you stated...It sounds like they are using you and just want you to work for free. I would not accept another assignment from them until you are clear on what your rights are.
Josette, you look a little like (R)Senator Olympia Snowe from Maine, United States.
