Yeah album version is indeed CGCGCF however here it's double drop D. That's DADGBD with capo on 2nd. As he says there's no one definitive version of his songs- they just grow and evolve and what makes the album cut is how a group of songs sounded at that particular instant. This is beautiful.
uh huh....outer condensation of devotion to one's heart's passion, given to another, wrapped in plaid. Someone has to be the velvet backdrop. Lucky us. If any man have an ear, let him hear.
second the instructional vid recommendation, its mostly all from the Beggars OIl and Roll Away the Stone albums with the odd bit of Shine Eyed Mr Zen in there.
He is very good at making it more approachable in both the fingerstyle and slide videos.
Thats quite a departure from the 'Beggars Oil' Ive heard. I like it a lot! You know what might be cool . . . a hint of the traditional version thrown in for a measure or two, and then jump back on the new stuff...
I thought the same myself at first but you know that's the beauty of his playing- so unpredictable and spontaneous. I heard him say once that he often has no more idea where the music will go then the audience does. That's what has you sitting on the edge of your seat at his shows. Such improvisation is rare, Shine on mister zen.
Another thing Kelly Joe talks about in his videos is giving the impression that something is there when it isn't. You can give the feeling of something being there without having to play it. A lot of jazz musicians talk about this. So here you hear the original without him even having to play it. Just a thought.
I wish he would put out some instructional material to explain his technique! so unique and it sounds just wonderful... thanks muchly for posting these videos
the raw synergy of soul and talent....exquisite.

Sometimes it's better to just enjoy and not to ask. Would you ask Picasso how to paint a picture? Accept the gifts we are given.

Yes. . . If I was a painter I would ask Picasso how to paint a picture.

me too...I'd make the best paint by number I could then just sit back and enjoy the original! :)
