There is no such thing as a 550 AMG coming straight from AMG. However, I can have a basic CLS 550 and have it tuned by AMG, that would get me a CLS 550 AMG. That goes for all the other types as well.

There is no 550 AMG of any type. I had 2 Corvettes and drove them daily over an 11 year period. They are cheap rubish and im glad i got rid of both mine when i did. They are NOTHING on an AMG Mercedes Benz, the peak horepower figure doesnt mean dick in the real world.

For an American car they are quite good, but compared to a QUALITY car, they aint worth much at all.

Its not a real AMG then. They always have two numbers after the class letters, not 3 like the normal Mercedes Benz.

Someone may have been stupid enough to glue on another zero to make a CLS 55 AMG say CLS 550 AMG, but they would have the brains of a turd if they did.

@redSKORPION50: Correct, AMG cars come all with two numbers after the class letter. A CLS 550 AMG is a basic CLS 550 tuned afterwards by AMG, thus not being a dealer ordered AMG. AMG does/did those afterwards tunings, don't know if they still do. It would be a bloody shame really if they still do.

I just recently sold a 1994 Corvette with around 530 horses out of a 383 ( which is also 6.2 ltr ), and it was a very fast car. Its also alot lighter than an AMG, a friend of my mother has a CLS 63 AMG, it is ALOT heavier than my 94 Corvette, and had only 508 horses to my 530 horses, yet the CLS 63 was every bit as quick from 0-100 as my Corvette was.

The AMG has less horses, much more weight, & STILL FASTER.

Horsepower doesnt mean that much and that proves it without question.

Hrd to believe but Let me tell you why. The AMG has more gears that are closer in ratio then the Vett. Put a TCI 6X trans in it and the Vetts problem is solved. Remeber these cars are apples and oranges

Mate, its got pretty much nothing to do with it. A 6 speed auto wont have gotten me to 100 any faster than the 4 speed with the 9 inch 3200 vigilante converter did. I also had a 3.73:1 rear end in there at one stage, & it was almost no different in sprint than when it had the 3.33:1 rear.

The reason is cause the AMG V8 had a far more even spread of power across the RPM than my Corvette ever could hope for with its pushrod V8.

I dont really think youll be able to tell me much i dont know.

Not sure which angle youre making this comment on, but the Corvette only spun if the tires were cold or you made an effort to spin, traction was very good, but either way, the car was very slightly faster with the 3.33:1 gears in the rear. There was not much in it.

The AMG was and is a far better car though and its a better designed engine that powers it.
