  • HILARIOUS!!!!

  • Pete is so creepy! Why does Peggy fall for him? He seems to want a submissive woman, and Peggy is so independent

  • While she watches....lol

  • is he sexy or is he sexy?

  • Can't take my eyes of Pete when he's in a scene. He's by far the most complex character. Kind of sad the Peggy/Pete ship has sailed.

  • i love Pete Campbell, he's the most interesting character in Mad Men.

  • vincent kartheiser's voice is pure sex

  • That scene was sexy and creepy at the same time. And Peggy was clearly turned on....

  • Is this first season Pete? He seems to be having a difficult time.

  • omg he DOES seem really creepy in this one! O.o still think he's adorable though, in his manic little way...

  • He has typical SMS, Small Man Syndrome, nervous, obsessive, overly-internal and overall narcisstic. I prefer Tall guys way over this stereo-typical small man.

  • Man he is such a whiner. He becomes just annoying in the third season. Hope they can him soon.

  • he seems to have masculinity issues, lol, but I haven't seen the show

  • Uh no he is just a jerk.

  • he's just not confident

he wants to be Don Draper.

  • pete is sooo sexy :)

but kinda creepy in this scene haha

  • "And I;d wipe my knife on my knee, then I would eat it." Huh? He eats knives? Either a very strange character, or very poor writing.

  • He's talking about eating the deer that he'd killed and his woman cooked for him. The whole line/story was filled with lots of sexual innuendos.

  • Peggy is so hot. I agree that the carousel presentation is awesome, but I also liked when Don gave the speech to Peggy about how the idea of "sex sells" is a simplified way of looking at things of what they do as marketing executives.

  • Gawd! I miss those normal background noises...typing...retro-phone ringing

  • I am in love with both of them!

  • This is one of the BEST Mad Men moments in season 1, second only to Don's 'Carousel' presentation!

  • Pete should have been with Peggy and called off the wedding, no point living a lie.

Us guys aint to clever with relationships though.

And yes the carousel pitch was brilliant, you could really feel it inside, makes you wonder about Don's letter at the end of season 2, maybe he'll still be a cheating rat.

(makes the show more entertaining anyway.)

  • This is one of the best mad men moments! To me, it's second only to the 'Carousel' presentation (ep 1x13)

  • She'd bring it to me, and then I'd wipe my knife on my knee, and then I'd eat it, while she watches.

  • I love this series...it harkens back to the era PERFECTLY! And the women were larger because this was the DAWN of advertising...before women were made to believe size zero was the norm. This soliloquy of Pete's says so much about his personality--odd and unconventional and yearning to be something he's not.

  • that was painfully over the top

  • this show is amazing; Peggy is great but i don't really like him..if you have seen the other episodes you probably know what i am talking about.

  • do they stuff cotton around these women? i mean i'm all for looking healhty, but the actresses don't look like that in real life..do they?

  • This scene reminds me of a famous Sylvia Plath poem called "The Rabbit Catcher" where male desire is caught up in an erotic fantasy about hunting and killing a rabbit, and the woman's sense that in a weird way she is that prey. Plath wrote it in early 60s. (Just thought I'd mention it, folks. Hell, let's throw a little literature into the mix here.)

  • pete trying to be romantic sweet of him.

  • Nooo:-D. I meant preggers.

  • Why do all the women in that office has incredibly large breasts?

  • The bra´s. Made the tits go all pointy. And she is greggers.

  • Plus they probably wouldn't get hired there without them. Because of the male chauvinist mentality in the series I mean.

  • The bra's - made the jooplies stick out and pointy. Plus women had more feminine shapes back then - now it's all the 13 year old Russian male gymnist look - no waste or hips - just flat. Or fake.

  • I don't think women had curvier shapes back then. If anything women are on average bigger/heavier today than they were back then. But being curvy was considered much more attractive back then than it is today.

  • lol . You just made my day .

I think real women have curves .

  • Bullet Bra Era!

  • i loved him in the unsaid, loved thomas caffey

    love vincent

  • How erotic can you get???

Kartheiser has this silky sexy voice that tingles you (OK,tingles ME) with every word...

  • i totally agree, i wanted to fan myself afterward. i'm sure if peggy had the "relaxacizer" at this point in the season........... well, you know but i suppose the pastry will have to do.

  • I actually don't really like this series....

Go watch Dexter it's way more interesting.

  • I am so uninterested in Dexter, I wouldn´t even go to one of it´s videos on YouTube to try and promote the way better "Mad Men".

  • Well than your ignorant and missing out on a great series. Too bad.

  • I never said I never seen it.

  • That's interesting. You don't see that kind of mentality in the modern office much, if at all. Seems not many have an appreciation for that kind of a setting anymore.

  • One of my favorite scenes ever!! I love Pete & Peggy's relationship and the actors playing the two characters are brilliant.

  • Agreed!!

  • I feel for Peggy! Did she really have his baby and give it up for adoption?

  • You can interpret Peter's fantasy as a desire to induce submissivity and obedience.

Or, you can interpret Peter's fantasy as a desire to rebel against social class rigidity. After watching the show, and observing the character's interaction with his family, I'd interpreted his fantasy as the latter.

  • He's just a twisted little pervert

  • If Pete's a "twisted little pervert", what does that make Peggy?

Obviously, she was turned-on by Pete's "hunting fantasy". In Pete's case, his fantasy might have been sexual but it's also his version of discarding conventional attitudes for a primitive culture. For Peggy, it represents sexual desire.

And for both, quite honestly, it's a desire to step-out of the roles they've been slated to play. I'll admit, Petey is a prick 9 times out of 10, but his fantasy was psychologically revealing

  • good view but it was very weird and creepy to hear him talk about it.. and in such specifics and... yea well i just found it very weird kinda makes him sound like a closet killer lol

  • That is exactly how I took it, too.

  • bingo.

  • If he wants to be the "man" of the family, then what is his attraction to Peggy--she's a little go getter, not some gentle submissive housewife.

  • Pete was also the only person in the office to believe that Americans can be sold on their death wish. As such it is not really surprising that his attraction to Peggy manifests in that weird place between what he thinks he wants and what he unconsciously wants.

  • This guy has a very elegant way about him--artistic hands--very beautiful features. Hard to believe this is the little kid in the movie "Alaska". Plus, the guy looks like he is straight out of that era. Fantastic production design, art direction, costume design etc. in this series!

  • Isn't that Wesly Crusher from Star Trek Tng

  • No.

    He's from Angel.

  • But think about it, it's exactly like that scene with Bateman and his assistant in AP

  • Call me crazy, (OK, so I'm asking for it with that opening) but I really like crazy, embittered Pete. There is so much open vulnerability not entirely covered by his sleaze that makes him so interesting.

  • I love Peggy!

  • OOOooooo your making me hot with all your sultry hunting talk......not.

  • peggy don't sleep with him or you'll have his baby

  • Peggy is really turned on by this

  • pete campbell is not bateman

Bateman is clever and funny and a genius in his own world...

Campbell is just a little shit

  • Just think how easy it is to replace Bateman with Pete for the bussiness card scene, and the comparison makes a whole lot more sense.

I am waiting for Pete to give details on grooming and exercise rituals.

  • Sooooooooo weird

  • Peter Campbell= the 1960's version of Patrick Bateman?

    Perhaps...

  • He's not crazy. He's just expressing that he wants to be respected by his wife and be the sole supporter of his family. In an earlier episode, his wife asked her father for the money for their appartment against his wishes and in this episode she berates him for getting a rifle.

He wants to be the man of the house. That's what his fantasy is about. Being a traditional masculine figure that gets respect.

  • not the way i see it. even men who aren't trying to be "man of the house" would not like it if their wives asked money from their parents for whatever, i guess man at this period were confused about what they THINK they want against what they REALLY want.

  • Peter Crazy!!! But however I love Peggy too ^^

  • peggy is my favorite, i really want to know what will happen to her.

  • i like her whats her name

  • The actress is Elisabeth Moss. She was on The West Wing before as the president's youngest daughter. The character is Peggy Olsen.

  • That was such a brilliant scene.

  • Do you have the episode where they kiss and he pulls her hair?

  • I know istubi487 has the whole scene under Mad Men- S01E08- The Hobo Code

  • how old are you

  • BAHAHA THAT WAS HILARIOUS....especially the end when she buys food!

  • is pete the father of peggy's baby?

  • I think so. Might have to wait until July 27th or so to find out....Haha!

  • Yes, I wonder if she'll keep the baby.

  • his speech helped me understand a LOT

  • That was creepy lol

  • You all need to buy or rent the DVD's just for the commentarys!. What I love about this scene is that Pete is being honest about his true inner feelings and Peggy understands this immeadiately. Matt Wiener's (the Creator) direction to Vincent was: "in 1960, this speech would get you laid"- lol.

My own personal thoughts are that deep down Pete would be better off emotionally if he had a simple upbringing like Dick Whitman as opposed to his 'Society Life'...and $5 hair cut.

    BUY the DVDs!!!!

  • Which subtitles does the DVD have? And which ones do you have (the lighter or...?)

  • I never bothered to look. I got a set that was on sale at "Blockbuster". 4 Discs (with Extras) and 1 or 2 commentaries per episode.

They have pictures of cast members on the discs. I know you can rent them at Blockbuster.

  • lol I love the scene where Don is yelling at Pete and says "you went to prep school AND YOU HAVE A FIVE DOLLAR HAIR CUT!"

  • Campbell is quite mad. He's like Christian Bale's character in American Psycho only the 1960 version.

  • I don't think he's as extreme as Patrick Bateman, but this conversation did remind me him quite a bit.

  • well said! he's got the exact same obsessions!

  • Brilliant scene and brilliant acting from both actors.

  • I love Peggy and Pete! I can't wait for season 2 of the show!

  • I hope they work things out! I want to like them, but they both turned into such assholes by the end, I guess they actually deserve each other now.

  • OMG Vincent is horrible on that series!!!

    On Angel was hot!

  • What do you mean? He get amazing reviews and positive reactions for his work for a long time. What the h*** do YOU think he does wrong?

  • I did not want to say that, the guy is a great actor, i sow him in a lot of movie.

  • I love them! Vincent is gorgeous in real life!
