You're missing my point. What you or I have to say doesn't matter any more than what anyone else has to say. But people should get accurate, realistic reporting on their govt's activities, including war. That way, if they choose the path of war they do so knowing and accepting the real consequences, and not because they've been fed some dishonest fairy tale about how they're kind and just. I don't think you can conduct a just war based on lies and deception - I think it is impossible.

If the people can't handle the reality of the war their govt is engaging in, then that war s/ stop. For example: I think we ended the Viet Nam War because extensive, realistic coverage of it made people aware of the fact that it was an immoral war. I think we maintained the Iraqi occupation (the war On Iraq if not the war With Iraq) because there was no realistic coverage of our complete failure there.

But let me ask you a question - if Israel isn't doing anything wrong and their treatment of the people in Gaza is appropriate and legal, than why have they expelled all the journalists and refuse to let them come back? To me, there is no more serious and obvious evidence that they are doing wrong. If Israel weren't ashamed of its treatment of these people, it wouldn't be afraid to let people report on their condition.

For a long time, I had confidence that what my country was doing was right. I assumed that, because all the messages from my society and my media told me were good and kind and just. I don't believe that anymore. I think some day you may take a wider view of events in Israel, now and in its past, and feel differently about things.

I know there is a story that is sold in Israel of them being the embattled state forever beseiged by malign, irrational forces bent on their destruction. It is the same story, though, that is fed to everyone, everywhere, so the people's taxes can be wasted on defense systems that should be mothballed.

I've done a lot of research on this topic, but the best, most concise source I've come up with is a site called "If Americans Knew" It tries to get at the objective truth of Palestinian vs Israeli deaths and then compares these totals to MSM coverage during the same period to evaluate media bias.

Right now, Israel is powerful and it is acting cruelly. Jews have been treated poorly in the past, but that does not entitle them to engage in collective punishment on others.
