He would spend his time and money with the kids at the Children's Hospital across the street from the Xcel Energy Center. He looked out for those less fortunate than him on and off the ice and that is an endearing quality that more people should have. Big article in the NY Times today about Boogaard. While it spoke about his history as a whole it looked in depth into 2 fights. It covered this one (where Fedoruk himself describes feeling the indentation on the side of his face the size of a fist) as well has his fight vs DJ King of the Blues where King talks about breaking Boogaard's nose. Anyhow go to the NY Times website and type in Boogaard in the search. Very good 3 page article.

Fighting needs to remain in hockey for as long as blindside and cheap hits remains. As it stands, Fighting is the only deterrent towards those kinds of hits (Matt cooke has been suspended how many times and continues to issue those hits?). Fighting has saved more lives and prevented more injuries than it has caused in hockey.

I was always V impressed by Boogaard and revered and spoke of him often as perhaps the biggest and baddest player in the league who nobody would ever mess with directly or incur the wrath of.Just having him in the line-up kept the peace.He could basically take anybody out in the game and I was astounded when I learned how huge the guy was.I was floored to hear of his death and was following him on the Rangers, and remember the great goal he scored + D.Taylor describing it.

I give Boogaard credit for doing his job. And he does it well. But how tough do you really have to be when your a 6'7 280 pound gorilla? He's always fights smaller and lighter guys because he's so big. It's not hard to throw people around when you outweigh them by 50 pounds. Or cave in people's faces when you have such a reach advantage. Boogaard is big and strong but I can think of a lot of fighters that are tougher than him. 5'8" Tie Domi comes to mind. Know that guy was tough.

From a Canucks fan. I was always V impressed by Boogaard and revered and spoke of him often as perhaps the biggest and baddest player in the league who nobody would ever mess with directly or incur the wrath of.Just having him in the line-up kept the peace.He could basically take anybody out in the game and I was astounded when I learned how huge the guy was.I was floored to hear of his death and was following him on the Rangers, and remember the great goal he scored + D.Taylor describing it.

I give Boogaard credit for doing his job. And he does it well. But how tough do you really have to be when your a 6'7 280 pound gorilla? He's always fights smaller and lighter guys because he's so big. It's not hard to throw people around when you outweigh them by 50 pounds. Or cave in people's faces when you have such a reach advantage. Boogaard is big and strong but I can think of a lot of fighters that are tougher than him. 5'8" Tie Domi comes to mind. Know that guy was tough.

@johnisallin No one is a pussy in the NHL besides Sidney Crosby of course. Derek Boogaard is a very tough dude and he usually doesn't fight people his size because in the western conference their weren't to many guys as big as him for one. When you 6'7 265 it's a lot harder to find someone your size to pick on. And he is 265 lbs. not of fat either. He trained to become that big and do what he does the guy is tough as shit.
