This is interesting, saw it however they use flawed theory, visit hiddennorthamericanarchaeology blogspot com for other references to this topic, there is a Phoenician expedition did a rout, around the African Continent, however they could easily have ended up in N. or other America's in about 6 months at sea, by going down Africa way, the way this program theorizes wont work, wind/currents etc. the other is simple & successful. Lots of evidence shows Phoenicians traded in early America.
They did not stop anywhere to replenish supplies which would have taken a great deal of time or else it would have been mentioned in the bom. The probability of the voyage being sucessful is practically neal unless the Lord interviened somehow. This is something to think about. I think dna is the best proof of anything. The Lord certainly wouldn't change dna or would he.
@thebigcougar True, there is no mention of stopping, but there is also no mention that they made the voyage in one continous journey. Certainly they could have stopped for water or supplies without mentioning it in the final extremely abreviated compilation resulting in the BoM. If the Phoenicia ship expedition route it taken, there is no need for direct intervention from the Lord, he only needed to guide his prophet through the liahona to make the journey. It makes perfect sense.
The archaeologist is assuming that the ship would have been built Roman style. The Book of Mormon specifically says that the ship's design was revealed to Nephi, and that it was not the same sort of ship as his contemporaries were building. False assumption fail.
Too bad they didn't analyze both theories. The other one puts them coming around africa and sailing through the atlantic ocean-- like the Phoenician ship project almost did. They had a hard time not sailing into america! google the Phoenician ship expedition.
@THELDSLIFE The guy is asking a question. how could anyone stay alive for this year an a half voyage ?
Note: The map in this one sails right past my place in australia, which is different to the other suggested mapped ocean voyages suggested by the guy talking about Lehi's children "taking a run on the sand" in malaysia ?
@kramd1 You are not blocked, but it often takes time for approval since this is not checked regularly. There are many issues here, but 580 days is a daunting task. About the only way this could have been the route to the America's is with direct divine intervention, which, while possible, is not needed if a route around Africa is considered. This has now been shown through actual experience to be not only possible, but probable by the Phoenicia expedition.
@Rodstervid321 Thanks, But wait, are you suggesting they took a route around Africa ? That would put them on the east coast of the American continent ? Ie: Arabian peninsula past India onto Africa travelling west around Africa> Man , it's hard to keep up with all the theories. I have been blocked by just about every LDS channel. THELDSLIFE, FairLDS, LDS999, Backyardproffesor etc etc. I do asks allot of questions, once they get to the To hard basket I get testimony and labelled anti mormon.
Does this rule out the possibility of Noah living off of food for that long? I mean I can take criticism from Atheist about the improbability of things happening in the Book of Mormon, but from other Christians it is humorous as we all believe a child was born to a virgin.
