i'm going to Bangladesh in two weeks and the hot Australian sun has tanned me to epic proportions. I know i'll get "shamla" comments from my family the only problem being I don't know how to articulate myself well enough in the Bangladeshi language to educate them on why they think the way they do =(
@HemikaDestroy honestly, just ignore their comments. theres a fine line between being respectful and disrespectful and you're better off just smiling and staring at them blankly and not letting their unwarranted comments get to you.
Thank you so much for making this video. Skin complexion is a discussion made among many of my friends (across cultures). As a Bangladeshi- "shemla" woman- I hear this- more when I was younger. But, I've learned to appreciat my own beauty. This isn't a post about how darker girls are prettier or preference to date them (as some comments below state). I love your message of reflection and finding the true reason of insecurity. Thank you again for bringing this topic to light. Best wishes.
Darker asian girls are hot. I love the mocha color of your skin. I'd trade you in a second. My skin color is too light, and tanning doesn't work. I burn very easily because I have red hair. Now that's a reason to hate your skin color. Even the sun doesn't like me.
Preach sister preach! Everyone needs to hear your video, there is just so much ignorance out there. Many people try to sweep this issue under the rug like it's no big deal...& write it off as preferring this color or that color as just a preference, when often times there's way more to it than that. We as a world have a very long way to go with this issue. Thank you for posting your vid.
you are very intelligent that is why you gained knowledge and insight about the origins of color bias, you learned how to rise above your insecurities, it's a pity non white races who have problems dealing with this issue aren't as strong as you. You are such a beautiful young woman and it terrible that people over looked your apparent attractiveness and just focused on your skin hue, But that is example of how white racism has globally, affected the non white races. Thanks for your video.
man, there is so much i could say on this. probably gonna be a term papers length but i'll write it and send to you. pretty trippy subject in most cultures that have dark skin.
I love your hair :)

@rainpurple88 It's wonderful to hear your preference for one complexion over the other- but this preference discriminates, just as the reverse.
