  • Tom Barney on bass- great to see him again. Solid, funky player who toured often with Sanborn in the 80's. Damn - those were the days for fusion jazz.

  • I GOTTA HAVE MORE COWBELL!!!

  • Hey cool, Hiram is here! R.I.P

  • sounds like earth wind and fire

  • Philip Bailey is so damn sexy in this!

  • George Duke, fuck yeah!

  • Very good, Phil rocking it out on his own, Go Philly

  • hahahaha...those guys behind Philip took the show!! they're awesome!! two of a kind, definately !!

  • Wow... it's cool that I happened to stumble upon this. I was just listening to this song on cd yesterday, and it was so good that I played it twice! Phil looks like Morris Day in that clip with his hair all slicked back. LOL. But he's throwing down with the percussion. He's pretty talented to that AND sing in falsetto at the same time.

  • EW&F is the greatest band of all.

  • is george duke on the left at 01:00"?

  • >> is george duke on the left at 01:00"?

Yes he is. He was the musical director for the Night Music band for one season of the show. Notice his name in the credits at the end.

Check out my channel for more performances featuring Mr. Duke.

  • Check on my channel. I did a video with a Duke's song. Thanks

  • do you have when Boz Scaggs was on there?

  • Go Hiram!

  • what sort of sound could we expect if phil bailey got together with ali ollie woodson and they would unleash their unbelievably talented skills? i would love to hear a collaboration of these two geniuses!

  • Auggiefan,

I totally agree. Philip Bailey is a much more talented singer than Eddie Kendricks. I like Eddie Kendricks, however, no comparison to Philip Bailey.

  • The actual name of the tune that he (they) are performing is "Go". It's from Philip's "Chinese Wall" album. While I think the vocal performance was a not what I would normally expect from Phil (was the tune in the wrong key?), his percussion playing while singing show just how multi-talented he still was at that point.

  • If you listen to ewf songs carefully you will recognise many times. his falsetto is only complete with this normal tune then and eny before.

  • Phillip Bailey's natural voice is as good as his falsetto. However, Eddie Kendricks was the greatest of them all.

I'm glad that Bailey is exclusively leading EWF, although Maurice White was "the essence" of EWF.

  • Azstheman, I agree with your comment that Phil's natural voice is as good as his falsetto. At times, he sounds like Maurice White, except a couple pitches higher.

However, I don't agree with you in that Eddie Kendricks is a better singer than Philip Bailey. Kendricks' range doesn't even come close to Phil's. And if you want examples, the two albums he released in 1984 (one secular, one gospel) will be my witnesses. His voice reaches operatic heights at times. Eddie couldn't do that.

  • @Braenchild82 I know it's not a contest; and Philip is a humble person, but you're right. I believe if Eddie were alive, he'd agree that Philip Bailey can sing circles around him. I enjoy eddie kendrick's voice too.
