David Fincher is an all arounder! He can direct anything, but his movies are very dark, he has a very dark and gothic style. He takes dark stories and put's them to his unique and very disturbing vision, even stories that are not dark and creepy, or even in that order, and put's them to his dark vision! I admire him, very much so, he has directed the new movie "The Social Network", and that story is not dark when you think about it, but the film he made of the story is quiet dark.Love his style!
Your editing however, is so fucking good, that it makes me appreciate the camera work in his films, much more. Some of the best montage edits I've seen, actually.
Hmm. I don't really get why people think David Fincher is such a great director. - I like almost every one of his movies, that I've seen. So I definately think he's good but he's got a very music video style. If Zack Snyder took on the types of projects Fincher did, I think it would come out surprisingly close. Zodiac is his most impressive work because he minimalized his style a bit.
@futurestoryteller this music video style is probably one of the reasons why i like his work so much, you can totally see that he actually comes from there
Well to have already made two bona fide classics in Fight Club and Se7en at his age shows he is special. The fact that all of his other films are not far off makes him a modern great
@futurestoryteller Well, yes. I think that he can create that atmospheres because he masters the photography of every scene and I guess that came with his video clip making.
I agree. Though I think Fincher shows great restraint with 'Se7en' as well (the only film amongst Fincher's small repertoire that I as yet have given a five star review for).
@futurestoryteller It's his music video style that makes his work so fucking great.
And unlike most of the directors that likes to play around with this concept, he knows exactly where and when to use this style, he also manages to create diversity with this style, there really isn't a repetitiveness in what he does, he's fantastic.
@futurestoryteller but he didn't. Fincher took those projects..Zodiac was good but it can't come close to Fight Club, Se7en or Social Network. These 3 are some of the best films ever made.
I'm sorry, I'm confused about something 'he didn't' what? Minimize his style, I guess? Really he did, and he keeps doing it, Fight Club was chocked full of CGI, and while Social Network has plenty, there's only about one or two shots in the film where it's as obvious as nearly every bit of it in Fight Club. I think the reason I gravitate towards Zodiac is because it's his most psychological movie - yeah, I know - even more than Fight Club, weird eh?
i....am....the #1 david fincher fan in the whole entire galaxy! lol jk ... but i seriously am a fan. i can't wait for social network. :) do you have any of his director's cuts? man i want it all! =)
Fincher was actually called at the last minute to direct. The movie went through three directors who all bailed during pre-production (I.E. Renny Harlan, David Twohy, and Vincent Ward) and several versions with the movies story. When Fincher came upon to direct there were difficulties, 1: the script was still incomplete and 2: Fincher didnt have as much creative control over the film.
Pity. Just because the work of a director escapes your initial idea of him doesn't mean the director's wrong about himself. Perhaps this adds something new to the equation?
David Fincher is the finest American director working today next to P.T. Anderson. I absolutely love his vision of the world. But I'm sorry, I couldn't stand Benjamin Button. I hope he picks himself up for his next film, whatever it is.
Awesome, I'm actually in a film studies lesson now working on my small scale research project, im basing it around him as an auteur and though this vid didn't exactly help information wise its made me feel how his films made me feel first time around.
yeah, that was immediately the first song which came in my mind when i decided to make this tribute. i'm really looking forward to his new movie "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", the cast seems awesome.
nice job! nice compilation of clips from david fincher films, and the music goes with it quite nicely as well. david fincher is one of my favourite directors of all time as well and fight club is one of my favourite movies! i have yet to see both alien 3 and the game but i'm sure i won't be disappointed.
Excellent tribute! The music is great, it fits with the images. Stanley Kubrick, David Lynch and David Fincher are definitely my three greatest filmmaking idols of all time. I love all of their works.

i never said that. i actually really liked benjamin button, but i just don't think this movie fits into this video.
and just because his new movie wasn't that "dark" it doesn't mean that i don't like his work anymore, he will always be one of my favourite directors.
and i forgot to mention that i just love him for the fact that he works so a lot with brad pitt ;-)
kushi1515 2 years ago
Are you going to upate this with clips of Benjamin Buttons.
Airjet2582 2 years ago
no i don't think so. it doesn't really fit into it i think, because all his other films are more like darken and benjamin button isn't really.
