"Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit". Acts 2.38, then in 2.41 about 3,000 people came to the Lord. God wins.

Guys focus on the good stuff in life, this world is not a waiting room. Tearing down someone who has brought people to church on Sunday is not a healthy thing for you or your relationship with God. Why in the world does anyone think yelling at someone to be a Christian will work. Just Saying.
"brought people to church"... going to a building--doesn't make you a Christian--anymore than going into a barn makes you a horse. the "church" is by definition the 'called out ones'---so it is not a building. There are also sheep, and goats... and the sheep in the church buildings aren't kicking out the known goats. Do you read the Scriptures on your own? When Jesus spoke to 5000 people, did He whisper? What about Paul preaching in Acts? You have to raise your voice.
anyone who thinks this guy in on key knows nothing of the gospel and is a clear cut son of adam awaiting judgement, sound crazy to you because you are lost , and you are still trying to connect the two (world and word), if you do, your daddy (son of perdition) is watchin over you to smootch your fanny and tell you what you want to hear and tickle thine itchy ears, and run you off a cliff into certain destruction, repent today and meet Jesus for real and youll be able to spot these wolves ! amen
"I don't think... I don't think... I actually think... I don't think..." Rob Bell, honestly, who cares about what you think? What you think won't send us to Heaven. We need what the Triune God thinks. We need truth.
Rob Bell sits on the seat trying to look cool while letting sinners walk past on their way to hell. He doesn't care about them. He just wants an excuse for disobeying the great commission.
Bell is right that God is loving, but the bullhorn guy is right also that God's wrath is on unrepentant sinners. Both messages need to be shared in order to fully present the Gospel. "Half a Gospel is no Gospel at all" - Alistair Begg
Bell is misleading people by repackaging the Gospel and trying to "sell" Jesus to people. The true Gospel commands us to repent--i.e., to TURN from our sins--and place our faith in Jesus. Then God's wrath will no longer be upon us, and we will have eternal life.
Yahshua said, "Repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is at Hand." They nailed Him to a Tree. I guess that didn't work. He also said "Unless you repent, you will perish." Comon Jesus, where's the loooooove maaaaan? Peter put it in a positive light in the Book of Acts when he said to repent so that times of refreshing may come. What else, Paul, on Mars Hill, tells them that if they don't "repent" then they will look forward to the "day of judgment" Read Acts 17:30-31, Acts 2-3.
Rob Bell... What did Noah do and how many souls where saved? What does it say in the new test about noah and what he did that pleased God? Stephen he got his brains rocked out because he was "tickleing peoples ears"?
"For God so loved THE WORLD, that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
The verse doesn't say that God only loves Christians or religious people.
The Word of God is clear that God loves the world (includes everyone). No matter who you are, God truly loves you. also 1 john 4:7-12 plus all the examples of Jesus showing love to the worst of the people among them. (i.e. john 4- Jesus talks with a Samaritan Woman.)
'Loved"What does that mean in the english? Past tense! Something in the past. Have you ever read the rest of John 3 "after 16"? 17 God did not send his Son into the world to condem the world,18 because the WORLD is ALREADY condemned!! because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 y their condemened because men loved DARKNESS rather than light. Joh 3:20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
You have to read scriptures in context not just pick out a verse or some words out of a verse & base a false doctrine on those words.1Jn 4 is directed to BORN AGAIN Christians!! 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.(the Holy Spirit) 6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us(unsaved). Hereby know we the spirit of TRUTH, and the spirit of ERROR. Nice try!
In Matthew Jesus says I only what i see my father in heaven doing. Now take that and think about when Jesus to commanded us to love our enemies. Just because we love them doesn't make them any less our enemy.
God loves and forgives everyone, except all those he doesn't :)
I don't want to offend although I'm almost certain you will take offence, but don't you think it's a bit sadistic for someone of power to smite someone who does not believe in him? The ego of Him is very very large.
you know what...i am not on here to argue my faith. we could fight about what the bible says and means from here until eternity. if it makes you happy to go around and just try and start arguments just so you can prove you are more knowledgeable or whatever then have fun. let me know where that gets you in life.
Its it hard for u 2 say i will pray about this? I just asked asimple question, U R the one that started telling me what U think the bibles teaches. lol
1Co 3:2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. Heb 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
We r gifted to wittness in different ways, people hear in different ways just because you would need love someone else might need knocked on there ass and cuffed...? u see what u want to see not the big picture... ur just one person in a sea of people..... nothing more nothing less, all sinners saved by grace, looks like none of us no what we should really be doing its trying that counts
I don't get it. There are all these people on here saying that Rob's message in Bullhorn is biblically unfounded. Open up the discussion booklet that comes with this thing. The Bible is the center of the discussion. Discussion - that's what this Nooma series is for.
dude, you on this vidio, the bible says no one seeks after God of corse they don't want to hear about the gospel. And for everyones information Jesus DID preach about hell, and Jesus DID preach repentance and holyness. He did not sit around smileing and hugging people he told the truth and the truth is: People are sinners and ther going to hell for it. THE BIBLE SAYS THIS! ITS TRUE! Everyone should watch Todd Friels response to this because his vidio is biblical.
Being "biblical" and taking verses out of the immediate context, not to mention the analogy of scripture, is inexcusable. Bell is a modern-day liberal dressed up in post-modern clothing.
I think what Rob was pointing out that in Christ, there is no condemnation, so a man preaching condemnation is wrong. Spitting the words "wrath" and "judgment" at someone who has no idea who Christ even is will do nothing but make him pissed off that God would do that. What people need to realize is that God sends no one to hell. OUR SIN DOES THAT. and until a person can recognize that they sin, the words judgment and wrath mean nothing to them.
If you were to watch the entire 10 minutes instead of this misleading snippet. You would understand that the point is yelling at people and screaming of the consequences isn't really working. RB's placing an emphasis on forming relationships with people and showing Jesus through their relationships. Basic point being how many people change their views because of a sign? Most people change their views because of their experiences. RB simply wants people to show Jesus through relationships.
i really don't care if he's got a problem with some guy shouting on the street. honestly that would annoy me too regardless of the message. but the fact that he's got a problem with the words "sin" and "hell" is what sets me off.
what the heck? what did jesus have in mind then when he died on the cross? what was he saving his people from? He was saving them from the sin and hell and burning the bullhorn was talking about
this isn't christianity, this is some glazed over postmodern emergent message leading people away so they don't have to work out thier salvation
17Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
Matt 7:13-20 13"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. 15"Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
Matt 23:2-4 "The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses' seat: so practice what they tell you, but do not do what they do; for they preach but do not practice. They bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with their finger. Bell's church is entering the narrow gate, not just preaching it. They do believe in the authority of scripture and salvation. Their power is their empathy with the hellbound & the Pharisees are jealous.
The word "hell" (gehenna) is used 14 times in the new testament (ESV). 12times by Jesus... I understand what he is talking about by putting people off, but its a real place and Jesus talked about and post-modernism is all about following Jesus life, maybe Rob Bell should do a wee talk on hell too.
Rob Bell you are a crafty one, I will say that. The New Testament also uses "crafty" to describe certain folk. Some of us are on to you, Rob. I pray others will sober up as well. I see "kingdom now" theology, a faulty theology about hell, and a lack of expedience in salvation for the lost. By the way, you somehow misquoted what Jesus really said to the woman in John 8. He said, "Neither to I condemn you, go and SIN NO MORE".
that comment i found to be slightly offensive. do you really think that rob bell has followers, or even wants followers?
from what i can gather, rob bell wants people to follow christ, not him. and yes i do apreciate rob bell and what he has to say about salvation, but i'm a follower of christ, not any man.
nope, i have no problem with 2 timothy verse at all. i think maybe you could read my entire comment to see what it was i found offensive.
i was considering the way inwhich you mentioned that rob bell has followers. as i said previously i am a follower of christ not any man, and from what i can gather about rob bell, he would be horrified to think that any man was following him and not christ.
I will admit i only know of rob bell what i see through nooma and online interviews. i am yet to see anything that contradicts the gospel of the love of jesus christ.
saying that any pastor of a church has followers seems a little contrived, but maybe thats just me?
my observation so far is that there are alot of religious evangelicals being tickled up the wrong way, not by unsound doctrine, but by some sort of rejection of church tradition...church tradition is not the gospel.
Um... Read the book of Isaiah. Read... Isaiah 6. Read Jerimiah...
Look, your message has nothing to do with whether or not people listen. Its the truth anyway... Which is not saying I would entirely agree with the "bullhorn guy." But I'll take part of the truth shouted through a bullhorn over...marshmallowy psuedo-Christianity...
If anyone was to be convicted of their sin...they can get a Bible. And, if you recall...the gospel is in there.
This is stupid! I hate the leaven of humanism, worldliness and outright COMPROMISE that Christianity has come to. We are manufacturing CHOCOLATE soldiers through ppl like this guy round-the-clock! God said that we are in WAR, He gave us a ARMOR and a SWORD to CUT thru sinners into conviction with the Holy Spirit. We are to RIP TO SHREDS the ground and sow in order to receive the INCREASE after God rains on our harvest. Enlist in God's army or stay on the sideline like the cheerleader you are!
i just think teaching the wrath of God by shouting people down with a bullhorn doesnt work, yes Jesus preached about our sin and the need of repentence but i really think that nowadays people dont listen to the preacher on the street, Jesus is to be reflected by us in everything we do, even every breath we take, i believe both must be said the wrath of God is real but so is His love, and it outlasts everything!!
so i had a thought...i dont know much about street preaching...all i know is if i wasnt a christian it would put me off...but people remember wot paul said, some will follow paul, some say no i follow peter but still I say and will follow Christ!!
just tell them what they want to hear rob bell, thats not the gospel!!! jesus is the rock of offence!!!! look at the fate of the apostles, come on preach the whole council.paul said "i am free from the blood of all men having not shunned to preach the whole council of god"
Every read Isaiah... a lot of judgment and God tells him after the "here am I" deal that the message will be My wrath and nobody's going to listen... God uses His goodness and His judgment to bring people to salvation, you can't ignore either
I thank Jesus for the way He is blessing rob's ministry. I thank Jesus for the blessing that is rob bell.
there seems to be alot of pharisees who don't want to know about the grace of god, they seem more comfortable with their works. i'm also wondering if these pharasees ever sit next to an unsaved friend on the train and the friend asks them a question about gods love, and the pharsee replies, "don't worry about gods love, worry about his wrath, cause right now he's pretty pissed with you!"
Let's see, the pharisees thought they were saved by their own righteousness, so why is it that someone who opposes Bell's "teachings" is a Pharisee?!?.
1) The whole point with the law is that our works are not good enough, because we aren't perfect. And that includeds Christians.
2) So God is some big cosmic love dude? He just sits up on a cloud loving everybody? God loves enough to die. His death is not JUST a proof of His love. . . that would be dumb. . . "I am going to go get killed to show that I love you." He payed the fine with His life's blood.
3) What God's love has done is provided a way to be saved from judgement.
this guy is evil and twisted! ok heres a thought, PEOPLE OPEN YOUR BIBLES BECAUSE VIDEOS ARENT ENOUGH!! Jesus always spoke the truth. In fact he even called the religious leaders snakes! I dont see this guy Rob Bell reading off the bible! What a loser!!
so true! This modern day wester church is being spewed out of God's mouth. I just wish people would take Christ's words more importantly than Rob Bell's false teachings.
Jesus talked about hell only to religious hypocrites. If you want to use a bullhorn to shout about hell do it in a church. With lost people Jesus showed compassion. It's the kindness of God that leads us to repentance.
Actually, Jesus spoke about Hell to EVERYONE.The context of God's kindness used in Romans 2 is about God withholding His Judgement in patience. God's kindness is demonstrated when we see the severity of our sin and the consequences of it...Hell.
I agree. However, Jesus did not use hell as a motivation for conversion with the "sinners" of Israel. He much more often used hell as a wake-up to religious hypocrites.
All I'm saying is that using hell evangelistically was not something Jesus seemed to do in the way many preachers do today.
Without an understanding of God's wrath there is no understanding of His mercy.Romans says that all who practice ungodliness are storing up for themselves wrath in the day of judgement.
Again I'm not disagreeing that hell exists or that we need to be saved from it. I'm talking about an observation of Jesus various strategies for reaching different people. He seemed to try to wake up hypocrites with hell but comfort those who already knew they were sinners with love and acceptance.
You never see Jesus shouting at immoral people telling them they're going to hell but you do see him calling religious leaders sons of satan.
Actually. . . you have a point here. But "acceptance"? that reeks of the modern "seeker sensitive" mindset. Remember, there is ONLY ONE SEEKER. And that, my friend, is God.
And in Israel, they knew the law (plus everything they added on) and the judgement. Problem was, the Pharisees thought they could be good enough to keep it, so they rejected God's atonement.
So if someone practices worldly sinful acceptance we shouldn't practice godly biblical acceptance because it "reeks" of being seeker sensitive?
Yes, no one can come to God unless he's being drawn by God. But how do you know that many seekers are seeking because God is already seeking them? Remember your doctrine gets worked out in real life. God moves in non-christians to make them seek him. It happens all the time. There are seekers.
God does not "accept" sin. He judges it. Jesus died because God judges sin. And Jesus had the sins of His people placed on Him. That is the heart and soul of the gospel.
I see what you mean, yes, but ultimately, God is the seeker. And "how shall they be saved without hearing, and how shall they hear without a preacher" (slight paraphrase of a Bible verse. In case you don't recognise it)
People can not be saved by you just being a nice, loving friend. They must hear the gospel.
Totally agree. There's lots of people who won't "hear" the gospel unless they see it and experience it too in their encounters with christians. There are many who hear the church teaching grace, that God substitutes himself in our place taking God's wrath on himself so we don't have to. They hear the church saying this is grace, something we don't deserve. Then they see church folk treat unbelievers like idiots and heathen as if they weren't themselves saved despite themselves.
Exactly my point, he's correcting a legalistic approach that says the tower fell on people because they were worse sinners. He's showing how the Pharisaical philosophy that God rewards good people like them and punishes bad people is false. Jesus seems to only use threats of hell against self-righteousness.
Luk 12:41 Peter said, "Lord, are You addressing this parable to us, or to everyone else as well?"Luk 12:54 And He was also saying to the crowds...This is the audience friend. Jesus is talking perishing to disiples and to the crowds, follow the master not an Isaiah 2:22:)
2) If you wanna say no one is better than anyone else, here's how you do it:
"Hitler was not an anomaly. We all have the potential to be murderers of thousands. In our deepest heart of hearts there is no jewel. There is only evil. Man is totally depraved, and this includeds you, me, and everyone else you know. Jesus was the ONLY sinless man, and everyone else deserves hell. Including me, you, and everyone else you know."
Re: 1) Jesus says nothing about God causing the tower to fall. It's true but it's not what Jesus is talking about. He's answering questions as to whether bad things happen to people because they're worse sinners than others. His answer - No.
From Last comment: Along with it, Mr Bell rubbishes all street evangelism with the implication that those who do it just haven't 'got it'. They are not 'cool 'like Jesus who came to show love and never condemned or judged anyone. This is despite the fact that he called on people to repent and believe his message, as well as talking about the H word more than anyone else!
It seems to me that he deliberately uses an easy target , with his illustration being the very worst example of street evangelism ( no resonance with those he seeks to reach, untrendy guy, no one listening to him etc)
Usually the person on the bench is the one whos not in the game. Who is Mr. Bell to criricize someone else for doing what he doesnt do, preach the straight gospel. Get off the bench and get in the game Rob
"Teaching as doctrines the principle of men"- according to this "logic". Stephen, while stones are flinging at his head, should have thought "Hey, this isn't working, maybe I should just be cool."?!?!Or all the disciples as they were tortured and murdered. Or even Christ Jesus himself while on the cross- if it were today you would say "Dude, just be tolerant and we'll take you off the cross." And besides, "how can the hand say to the eye I have no need of it." Luv ya
So thank God that I didn't go to this conference with some of my friends and see this guy who's got one of these post-modern ideas like "the gods are not angry." This guy basically teaches universalism which is heresy and everyone is still flocking to him so I want to say to Mr. I-Love-Man's-Praise-Guy, Mr. I-L-M-P-G, I don't think it's working. All the heresy, all the lies. I don't think it's working. It's not what Jesus has has done.
I think you need to repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ of the Scriptures.
But some of you might be saying, "Yeah, you tell him, Lane!" but what are you doing to change it? Are you promoting this man's garbage or the God of Scripture? The God of the Bible sent Jesus Christ who has come in the flesh. Worship him, not the caricature created by Bell to please men. Are you promoting Bell? I don't think it's what Jesus had in mind.
Hi. I go to the church that Rob Bell teaches at, and I must say that you are totally wrong about him. He does not speak garbage at all. He teaches from Scripture every week. He's a very good person. He's helped a lot of people come to know Jesus in a very close and personal way. I have to say though... I love your passion for the truth. God Bless YOU!!!
Key phrase: You love "subjective passion for truth". Note that you do did not say, "I love the truth." If you did, you'd be convicted and be led to find out what it actually is. Bell teaches that Peter "lacked faith in himself". If exegete Scripture, you will never come across that. It's a flat out contradiction to what it says. Always remember that cults usually start out with a person being placed in authority over Scripture, but they still use Scripture to justify their ends.
I have been convicted many many times to search for the truth... and Rob Bell will be the first to encourage everyone to do that. He openly admits that he's been approached with questions regarding Scripture and he simply does not know the answer. He's a human being. As I am, and as you are. And we are not a cult... LOL.
I understand that he "encourages everyone to seek the truth", the problem is, he doesn't tell the truth about the truth. Do you understand how that is a problem? I could hire you for a position, encourage you to strive to do a certain job that I claim will pay $5,000 in commission, but when you finally get there and finished, it doesn't pay anything. In fact, it puts you in debt. Do you understand the point?
Also, what are those questions specifically? Is the truth that the reason he doesn't give an answer because there isn't an answer or because he doesn't give them? Do you see how one question looks to objective truth as the final authority, and the other looks to subjective opinion as authority?
Yes... thanks for the analogy. I believe the Bible to be Living. As does Bell. While the words never change, it speaks to everyone differently based on where they are in their walk towards Christ. You certainly are very judgmental for someone I assume has never met the man.
"You certainly are very judgmental for someone I assume has never met the man."
You don't have to look at an elephant long to realize that it would make a good pet. Bell proclaims things and apparently if it's something that someone disagrees with they are considered judgmental. Well, that makes sense if "words never change, but speak to everyone differently" on their own subjective interpretation, but clearly words do have objective meanings.
...according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment." (John 7:24) You may take Christ's words to mean "accept everything by nativity regardless of how the person looks," but...
but the objective meaning of that is "Don't be naive. If some 'hip-dude' comes along and says something, don't take his word for it based solely on his interpretation, but decide upon a case objectively." You couldn't get changing that meaning in a secular court, why is it alright in "church"?
Dude... you just judged him... you called him some hippie dude. What do you have against hippies.. Rob is not a hippie. And he's not amazing either. Christ is amazing. I believed in Christ long before I ever went to Mars Hill. I just listened to a message Rob gave a couple Sundays ago and the whole thing was on repentance. We accept everyone. We don't accept all behavior. We try to help "those people". (I'm one of "those people" too.)
Actually, you quote me out of context. I said, "Don't be naive. If some 'hip-dude' comes along and says something, don't take his word for it based solely on his interpretation, but decide upon a case objectively." Note 1) I didn't address Bell directly calling him "some hippy dude" and 2) I see no mention of hippies anywhere in my comments. Are you reading into something that isn't there?
What ever. Point is.. Robs a nerd. Not hip sometimes he's not even at church. We get guest speakers. We don't believe in CHrist because some "hip-dude" said it's a good thing. Where do you go to church?
You know what, I'm tired... mom of two here... All I'm saying is that Rob is a good person who cares about people. He admits he's human, not God, and that he doesn't know all the answers. Thanks for the debate. God bless!
Well, thank God Paul didn't take the same approach to apologetics as you. "There is none good, no not one," is his reply to Rob being a "good" person. He may admit he's human, but he doesn't admit that he's humanistic (ie. has his philosophy about life stem from humanism rather than the Spirit.) I believe Rob does have many, many answers. What I don't claim is that they come from God, but rather his fallen, humanistic mentality which "exalts the creature instead of the creator." (Rom 3)
Why don't you come to Mars Hill one of these Sundays. We would love to have you as a guest. Then you truly can make an objective opinion. Talk to him for yourself. Were not crazed kool-aid drinkers. We love God and and we are here to share his love... LOVE WINS!
Ah, the old, "you can't knock it unless you try it" deal. There was another in history that had this same philosophy. There was once a woman in a garden who was told not to eat of a particular fruit. This individual basically told the woman, "Hey, you can't knock it until you try it." and when she saw it was "pleasing to the eye and good for food, she took a bite. No thanks. I don't need to be eat fruit to realize that God has already forbid eating it.
Did you just call me the snake "SATAN" in the garden??????? OMGoodness. Dude. Chill out. live the life God gave you. You aren't doing anything useful here. I'm sorry. It's true.
You try to poke holes in everything don't you.
I won't respond anymore. It's useless. SeeeeeYaaaaaaaaaaaa.
Actually. . . . he is almost correct in calling you Satan. The Bible says that false teachers are the sons of the Devil, and that Satan is the father of lies. . . .
when you speak of Rob exalting the creature instead of the creator, are you speaking of his video regarding Peter not having enough faith in himself to walk on the water?
This Bullhorn video is one. "You" is another. There are several I saw about a year or so ago when there were longer clips still posted. Someone wrote a critique of Bell's Velvet Elvis that takes his book and compares it to Scripture. I'll send it to you if you like.
I disagree. He states in Velvet Elvis that we are saved from our sins and hell, but that there is more to salvation than just that. We are saved to live in Christ, not just get a free ticket out of hell.
well philippians121 you need to actually watch the non preview version of this video and then you might understand what Rob Bell is saying and therefore you would not make such an ignorant comment such as the one below mine....
How can you love someone when you are putting them down? How can you love someone when you are playing "i am better than you"? Did Jesus say "I am better than you, so that's why you should follow me"? No! He loved them. Gave them love. I think you are off key "valetudospang"
When the persecution comes here as I have seen it in other countries, Rob Bell and people like him will run for the hills. People do not willingly suffer for what they do not believe in.
Theres a fine line between conviction and condemnation. Condemnation is just telling people theyre going to hell, and no hope. Conviction involves telling people about sin, and hell, but also Gods love for them ,and desire to save them from those things and the need to repent and believe the gospel
Conviction cannot come from an external source. No person can convict someone else. In the conversion process that conviction comes from the Holy Spirit, not our words.
This is 1 of my favorite noomas because he emphasises that you can't contain God in bullet points on a pamphlet. If that was the way God wanted the gospel to be heard, the bible would be a pamphlet, but it's not. It's a series of poems and stories of love, tragedy, death and compassion. My hope is that people will stop trying to dumb down God into simple bullets. God can be so mysterious and captivating if you don't try to put Him in a box. Please message me if you would like to discuss.
Thats true the Bible is a love gift from God-which also contains discipline.Just loving on people isn't going to save them. You have to give an honest message that, yes if you don't accept Christ you WILL spend eternity away from God, because we are born into sin and there's no blood to cover your sin.Use love to help carry your message, but you can't use love without the message-u need both to be effective,&accept the fact that some people just won't listen.

anyone who thinks this guy in on key knows nothing of the gospel and is a clear cut son of adam awaiting judgement, sound crazy to you because you are lost , and you are still trying to connect the two (world and word), if you do, your daddy (son of perdition) is watchin over you to smootch your fanny and tell you what you want to hear and tickle thine itchy ears, and run you off a cliff into certain destruction, repent today and meet Jesus for real and youll be able to spot these wolves ! amen

What else, Paul, on Mars Hill, tells them that if they don't "repent" then they will look forward to the "day of judgment" Read Acts 17:30-31, Acts 2-3.

john 3:16:
"For God so loved THE WORLD, that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
The verse doesn't say that God only loves Christians or religious people.
The Word of God is clear that God loves the world (includes everyone). No matter who you are, God truly loves you. also 1 john 4:7-12 plus all the examples of Jesus showing love to the worst of the people among them. (i.e. john 4- Jesus talks with a Samaritan Woman.)
khichuri88 2 years ago 2

Nice try!

OUR SIN DOES THAT. and until a person can recognize that they sin, the words judgment and wrath mean nothing to them.
jhoggard07 3 years ago
If someone doesn't know who Christ is then they're not "in Christ", so therefore they are under condemnation. (John 3:18)

By the way, you somehow misquoted what Jesus really said to the woman in John 8. there seems to be alot of pharisees who don't want to know about the grace of god, they seem more comfortable with their works. i'm also wondering if these pharasees ever sit next to an unsaved friend on the train and the friend asks them a question about gods love, and the pharsee replies, "don't worry about gods love, worry about his wrath, cause right now he's pretty pissed with you!"

Jesus talked about hell only to religious hypocrites. If you want to use a bullhorn to shout about hell do it in a church. With lost people Jesus showed compassion. It's the kindness of God that leads us to repentance.
meadebaker 4 years ago
Actually, Jesus spoke about Hell to EVERYONE.The context of God's kindness used in Romans 2 is about God withholding His Judgement in patience. God's kindness is demonstrated when we see the severity of our sin and the consequences of it...Hell.
gtrjunky 4 years ago
I agree. However, Jesus did not use hell as a motivation for conversion with the "sinners" of Israel. He much more often used hell as a wake-up to religious hypocrites.
All I'm saying is that using hell evangelistically was not something Jesus seemed to do in the way many preachers do today.
meadebaker 4 years ago
well then what are we saved from?
gtrjunky 3 years ago
Without an understanding of God's wrath there is no understanding of His mercy.Romans says that all who practice ungodliness are storing up for themselves wrath in the day of judgement.
gtrjunky 3 years ago
Again I'm not disagreeing that hell exists or that we need to be saved from it. I'm talking about an observation of Jesus various strategies for reaching different people. He seemed to try to wake up hypocrites with hell but comfort those who already knew they were sinners with love and acceptance.
You never see Jesus shouting at immoral people telling them they're going to hell but you do see him calling religious leaders sons of satan.
meadebaker 3 years ago
Actually. . . you have a point here. But "acceptance"? that reeks of the modern "seeker sensitive" mindset. Remember, there is ONLY ONE SEEKER. And that, my friend, is God.
And in Israel, they knew the law (plus everything they added on) and the judgement. Problem was, the Pharisees thought they could be good enough to keep it, so they rejected God's atonement.
zangtangerang 3 years ago
So if someone practices worldly sinful acceptance we shouldn't practice godly biblical acceptance because it "reeks" of being seeker sensitive?
Yes, no one can come to God unless he's being drawn by God. But how do you know that many seekers are seeking because God is already seeking them? Remember your doctrine gets worked out in real life. God moves in non-christians to make them seek him. It happens all the time. There are seekers.
meadebaker 3 years ago
God does not "accept" sin. He judges it. Jesus died because God judges sin. And Jesus had the sins of His people placed on Him. That is the heart and soul of the gospel.
I see what you mean, yes, but ultimately, God is the seeker. And "how shall they be saved without hearing, and how shall they hear without a preacher" (slight paraphrase of a Bible verse. In case you don't recognise it)
People can not be saved by you just being a nice, loving friend. They must hear the gospel.
zangtangerang 3 years ago
Totally agree. There's lots of people who won't "hear" the gospel unless they see it and experience it too in their encounters with christians. There are many who hear the church teaching grace, that God substitutes himself in our place taking God's wrath on himself so we don't have to. They hear the church saying this is grace, something we don't deserve. Then they see church folk treat unbelievers like idiots and heathen as if they weren't themselves saved despite themselves.
meadebaker 3 years ago
1) There is only one way to really "experience" the gospel, and that is to be saved. Otherwise, you can only see the effects.
2) Yes, the fruit of the Spirit must be visible. Of course it must be visible. But it still isn't the center of the message. It is. . . a side effect.
3) Technically, they are heathen. As are many "churchgoers."
zangtangerang 3 years ago
True. Equally important is what are we saved to?
meadebaker 3 years ago
"Repent or perish" Jesus in Luke 13:3,5 what was he talking about? Repent from what? Sin? Perish where? Hell?
JoaquinJB 3 years ago
Exactly my point, he's correcting a legalistic approach that says the tower fell on people because they were worse sinners. He's showing how the Pharisaical philosophy that God rewards good people like them and punishes bad people is false. Jesus seems to only use threats of hell against self-righteousness.
meadebaker 3 years ago
Luk 12:41 Peter said, "Lord, are You addressing this parable to us, or to everyone else as well?"Luk 12:54 And He was also saying to the crowds...This is the audience friend. Jesus is talking perishing to disiples and to the crowds, follow the master not an Isaiah 2:22:)
JoaquinJB 3 years ago
1) The tower fell because God said for it to.
Including me, you, and everyone else you know."
zangtangerang 3 years ago

LaneCh 4 years ago
God Bless YOU!!!
jenjama31 4 years ago
Key phrase: You love "subjective passion for truth". Note that you do did not say, "I love the truth." If you did, you'd be convicted and be led to find out what it actually is. Bell teaches that Peter "lacked faith in himself". If exegete Scripture, you will never come across that. It's a flat out contradiction to what it says. Always remember that cults usually start out with a person being placed in authority over Scripture, but they still use Scripture to justify their ends.
LaneCh 4 years ago
I have been convicted many many times to search for the truth... and Rob Bell will be the first to encourage everyone to do that. He openly admits that he's been approached with questions regarding Scripture and he simply does not know the answer. He's a human being. As I am, and as you are. And we are not a cult... LOL.
jenjama31 4 years ago
I understand that he "encourages everyone to seek the truth", the problem is, he doesn't tell the truth about the truth. Do you understand how that is a problem? I could hire you for a position, encourage you to strive to do a certain job that I claim will pay $5,000 in commission, but when you finally get there and finished, it doesn't pay anything. In fact, it puts you in debt. Do you understand the point?
LaneCh 4 years ago
Also, what are those questions specifically? Is the truth that the reason he doesn't give an answer because there isn't an answer or because he doesn't give them? Do you see how one question looks to objective truth as the final authority, and the other looks to subjective opinion as authority?

Yes... thanks for the analogy. I believe the Bible to be Living. As does Bell. While the words never change, it speaks to everyone differently based on where they are in their walk towards Christ. You certainly are very judgmental for someone I assume has never met the man.
jenjama31 4 years ago
"You certainly are very judgmental for someone I assume has never met the man."
You don't have to look at an elephant long to realize that it would make a good pet. Bell proclaims things and apparently if it's something that someone disagrees with they are considered judgmental. Well, that makes sense if "words never change, but speak to everyone differently" on their own subjective interpretation, but clearly words do have objective meanings.
LaneCh 4 years ago
For example, Christ said to "Judge not...
...according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment." (John 7:24) You may take Christ's words to mean "accept everything by nativity regardless of how the person looks," but...
LaneCh 4 years ago
but the objective meaning of that is "Don't be naive. If some 'hip-dude' comes along and says something, don't take his word for it based solely on his interpretation, but decide upon a case objectively." You couldn't get changing that meaning in a secular court, why is it alright in "church"?
LaneCh 4 years ago
Dude... you just judged him... you called him some hippie dude. (I'm one of "those people" too.)
fifthandpinned 4 years ago
Actually, you quote me out of context. I said, "Don't be naive. If some 'hip-dude' comes along and says something, don't take his word for it based solely on his interpretation, but decide upon a case objectively." Note 1) I didn't address Bell directly calling him "some hippy dude" and 2) I see no mention of hippies anywhere in my comments. Are you reading into something that isn't there?
LaneCh 4 years ago
What ever. Point is.. Robs a nerd. Not hip sometimes he's not even at church. We get guest speakers. We don't believe in CHrist because some "hip-dude" said it's a good thing. Where do you go to church?
fifthandpinned 4 years ago
Just curious, are you in the SBC?
LaneCh 4 years ago
What's the SBC? Is it ran by some "hip-dude"... if so sign me up.
fifthandpinned 4 years ago
It's the initials of the Southern Baptist Church. Apparently, you are not affiliated with it.
LaneCh 4 years ago
Nope. Thought it was a phone company.

You know what, I'm tired... mom of two here... All I'm saying is that Rob is a good person who cares about people. He admits he's human, not God, and that he doesn't know all the answers. Thanks for the debate. God bless!
jenjama31 4 years ago
Well, thank God Paul didn't take the same approach to apologetics as you. "There is none good, no not one," is his reply to Rob being a "good" person. He may admit he's human, but he doesn't admit that he's humanistic (ie. has his philosophy about life stem from humanism rather than the Spirit.) I believe Rob does have many, many answers. What I don't claim is that they come from God, but rather his fallen, humanistic mentality which "exalts the creature instead of the creator." (Rom 3)
LaneCh 4 years ago
Why don't you come to Mars Hill one of these Sundays. We would love to have you as a guest. Then you truly can make an objective opinion. Talk to him for yourself. Were not crazed kool-aid drinkers. We love God and and we are here to share his love... LOVE WINS!
fifthandpinned 4 years ago
Ah, the old, "you can't knock it unless you try it" deal. There was another in history that had this same philosophy. There was once a woman in a garden who was told not to eat of a particular fruit. This individual basically told the woman, "Hey, you can't knock it until you try it." and when she saw it was "pleasing to the eye and good for food, she took a bite. No thanks. I don't need to be eat fruit to realize that God has already forbid eating it.
LaneCh 4 years ago
Did you just call me the snake "SATAN" in the garden??????? OMGoodness. Dude. Chill out. live the life God gave you. You aren't doing anything useful here. I'm sorry. It's true.
You try to poke holes in everything don't you.
I won't respond anymore. It's useless. SeeeeeYaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
(Jas 4:7)
LaneCh 4 years ago
Actually. . . . he is almost correct in calling you Satan. The Bible says that false teachers are the sons of the Devil, and that Satan is the father of lies. . . .
zangtangerang 4 years ago
when you speak of Rob exalting the creature instead of the creator, are you speaking of his video regarding Peter not having enough faith in himself to walk on the water?
jenjama31 4 years ago
Yes. I'm commenting on that video and others which display this philosophy.
LaneCh 4 years ago
just curious... which others?
jenjama31 4 years ago
This Bullhorn video is one. "You" is another. There are several I saw about a year or so ago when there were longer clips still posted. Someone wrote a critique of Bell's Velvet Elvis that takes his book and compares it to Scripture. I'll send it to you if you like.
LaneCh 4 years ago
would you? i would like to see that. thanks!
jenjama31 4 years ago
I will, Lord willing. You should see it in about 10 minutes or so.
LaneCh 4 years ago
If you don't think that Rob Bell exalts God, you have not been listening and reading carefully enough.
He just expresses that God is more than holy wrath.
JohnNoZ35 4 years ago
No he expresses universalism which is "God isn't holy wrath."
LaneCh 4 years ago
I disagree. He states in Velvet Elvis that we are saved from our sins and hell, but that there is more to salvation than just that. We are saved to live in Christ, not just get a free ticket out of hell.
JohnNoZ35 4 years ago
Here's a review of Velvet Elvis where the author compares Bell's book to the Scriptures:

have you read it yourself?
or are you just taking this site's word at face value?
just wondering.

well philippians121 you need to actually watch the non preview version of this video and then you might understand what Rob Bell is saying and therefore you would not make such an ignorant comment such as the one below mine....

How can you love someone when you are putting them down? How can you love someone when you are playing "i am better than you"? Did Jesus say "I am better than you, so that's why you should follow me"? No! He loved them. Gave them love. I think you are off key "valetudospang"
submarinisto 4 years ago
Rob Bell is so off key. Please don't listen to this guy.
valetudospang 4 years ago
why not? Why should we listen to you instead?

bad Jesus...Bad Bad Jesus...telling the prodigal feel good story. What a heretic.

When the persecution comes here as I have seen it in other countries, Rob Bell and people like him will run for the hills. People do not willingly suffer for what they do not believe in.
dcougle 4 years ago
that is soooo true!! that's my thought exactly.

Theres a fine line between conviction and condemnation. Condemnation is just telling people theyre going to hell, and no hope. Conviction involves telling people about sin, and hell, but also Gods love for them ,and desire to save them from those things and the need to repent and believe the gospel
hasani42 4 years ago
Conviction cannot come from an external source. No person can convict someone else. In the conversion process that conviction comes from the Holy Spirit, not our words.

This is 1 of my favorite noomas because he emphasises that you can't contain God in bullet points on a pamphlet. If that was the way God wanted the gospel to be heard, the bible would be a pamphlet, but it's not. It's a series of poems and stories of love, tragedy, death and compassion. My hope is that people will stop trying to dumb down God into simple bullets. God can be so mysterious and captivating if you don't try to put Him in a box. Please message me if you would like to discuss.
jimmydude75 4 years ago
Thats true the Bible is a love gift from God-which also contains discipline.Just loving on people isn't going to save them. You have to give an honest message that, yes if you don't accept Christ you WILL spend eternity away from God, because we are born into sin and there's no blood to cover your sin.Use love to help carry your message, but you can't use love without the message-u need both to be effective,&accept the fact that some people just won't listen.
