This game doesn't exactly have the best combat (which I think we can all admit). But man, they nailed nearly everything else. The atmosphere is perfect, the story-telling is great. And the scares will give you nightmares for days . . . maybe even weeks!

i guess all one has to know is that silent hill differs depending on which person enters it. thats due to the fact that the city reflects the persons emotions and memories (or something like that it was....)

if you play the other parts you get to know the history of the town bit by bit but its not neccessarily a must to have played them. especially since theres a lot of silent hill websites that explain the story better than the actual games ^^'

It's not so much the emotions and memmories.....what the powers of the town focus on more if you noticed is there SINS. the graver the sins the worse the town is for them. like SH 2 for example. that was the best one in terms of this explaination.

_____See, this is where they messed up in the character research part. A soldier is trained to feel for traps with the LEFT hand. The dude who handled my training said that was because, in case your left gets blown off, you still have your good one to fight with. Yeah... Take your severed wrist-stump, have your battle buddy tie that sucker off with a tournoquet (probably the only time to use a tournoquet) and keep fighting. You only need your right to fire your rifle--left wrist to aim!

The main thing is that this is the least scary of the series. Too much big bad monster and blood rather then the narrow field of view, sounds, and overall atmosphere that made the other 4 (origins I have yet to play so can't say) so scary. It was full of tension instead of simply combat and gore.
